Joseph (bluemanticore) | 433 comments That's pretty much all I remember about it. I vaguely recall that it was a boy that for some reason, I think to save his life, has his brain downloaded into a computer harddrive to save his life and he lives on in a virtual reality of some sort. I don't recall when I read this or if it was an adult or kid's sci-fi book or even to be honest if it was a book or a tv show. Does it sound familiar to anyone?

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 289 comments Sounds like Daddy's World by Walter Jon Williams. Appeared in Not of Woman Born and (maybe) Facets. A very haunting story. Was the boy's name Jamie?

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 289 comments Ah, here's a fuller listing: http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cg...

ETA: And it's apparently available in e-form from Fictionwise.

stormhawk | 183 comments The Ship Who Sang - Anne McCaffrey has similiar elements, but the ship was a female.

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 433 comments To be honest, none of these suggestions sound familiar, but I'm certainly going to look into them when I get the chance.

Joseph, Please come back and let us know if any of the suggested books are your book, or if you still need help finding it. Thanks.

Random (rand0m1s) | 103 comments Its sounds sort of like the short story by Tad Williams called "The Happiest Dead Boy in the World"

Its a short story that was published in Legends II.

Spoiler for Tad William's Otherland series below.

It comes after his Otherland series and picks up on a boy named Orlando. In the series, Orlando had been quite ill and his body had eventually died from the stress of the happenings in the series. He was, however, jacked into a extremely complex VR world and manages to continue in there after his body's death.

Its been a long time since I've read it, but I do remember it seemed to focus on him trying to reconnect with his parents and the awkwardness involved.

Emily | 140 comments This is another one about a girl, but the premise sounds a lot like The Adoration of Jenna Fox.

Kaion (kaionvin) | 388 comments A Doctor Who episode with the best companion evAH.*

*in my very humble opinion

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 289 comments Not that it really matters but ... for the sake of completionism, what was the name of the episode?

message 13: by Kaion (last edited Sep 29, 2010 05:38PM) (new)

Kaion (kaionvin) | 388 comments Well I didn't mention it because it's a big spoiler. (Don't know if Anna is thinking of the same episode.) But link!

Donna (deety) | 24 comments Best new-Who companion by a mile, but my overall favorites are Sarah Jane, Ace, and Romana II.

And to be more on-topic, some of the books in this thread sound pretty interesting, I'll have to check them out.

Shanna_redwind | 852 comments Could it be City of Golden Shadow by Tad Williams? The boy has Progeria and no sort of life at all, but he spends much of his time in a virtual world.

(view spoiler)

It sounds like the movie Johnny Mnemonic which starred Keanu Reeves. He was more of a man than a boy, of course.

The movie was very loosely based on the eponymous William Gibson short story, which I haven't read.

I sent off a PM to the OP. He is still active on GR, so hopefully we'll hear back. If not, then I am for moving this down to Abandoned by the next Mod to read this.

message 19: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) He's def. active, so let's give him one more mod. turn-around. That is to say, I won't move it yet, but you can. :)
