Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I saw XVI mentioned somewhere else and it sounds interesting.

Will you go see the movie "Beastly", AV? I haven't read the book, but I'm wondering who it'll compare.

Yeah I am excited for XVI. I will see the Beastly movie soon I hope... even though I know like most movies based on books, I will pick it apart.

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments What's XVI?

message 462: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments XVI by Julia Karr
Nina Oberon's life is pretty normal: she hangs out with her best friend, Sandy, and their crew, goes to school, plays with her little sister, Dee. But Nina is 15. And like all girls she'll receive a Governing Council-ordered tattoo on her 16th birthday. XVI. Those three letters will be branded on her wrist, announcing to all the world—even the most predatory of men—that she is ready for sex. Considered easy prey by some, portrayed by the Media as sluts who ask for attacks, becoming a "sex-teen" is Nina's worst fear. That is, until right before her birthday, when Nina's mom is brutally attacked. With her dying breaths, she reveals to Nina a shocking truth about her past—one that destroys everything Nina thought she knew. Now, alone but for her sister, Nina must try to discover who she really is, all the while staying one step ahead of her mother's killer.

message 465: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments I usually do too, but this cover borderlines horror to me, and I'm a scaredy-cat, so seeing the cover before sleeping would give me nightmares, lol. This one would have to go on the kindle :)

message 466: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL! Yeah, it'd be hard to avoid the cover otherwise. I can just picture you shying away from it in the bookstore. ;)

Sandra | 25908 comments So, my local Borders is closing, which is a damn shame, so of course I had to go see what I could snaffle quickly before anyone else got their hands on them purchase.

message 474: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Great haul! Did you get good discounts, Sandra? Out of all of those I want Demon Angel and Atlantis Rising-which has been on my Amazon wish list for about 5 years. I've been advised to stay away from Mercy Blade due to my disagreement with Jane over her mating decisions. Pretty sure Beast would side with me on that. Hmpf.

message 475: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Well, it was 50% off, which sounds a lot, but really that just brought the cost down to BD prices or just below, but it meant I didn't have to wait for the mail man or dispose of all the packaging. LOL.

I haven't tried Jane yet, so maybe I should read this third one before committing to buy the first 2. Thanks for the tip. No doubt, by the time I get to Demon Angel & Atlantis Rising you'll finally have them, but if not I'll have to let you know what I think.

message 476: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments That's great. No waiting, instant gratification! Definitely let me know what you think of those two. I have so many to read that I probably won't get to them this year.

Pretty sure it is, title is "Skin & Bone". I haven't read it yet, what with the confusion of last week and trying desperately to concentrate on finishing my Bingo reads. Hey, maybe I'll get lucky and this anthology will be on the next bingo shelf.

message 488: by Desperado (last edited Mar 17, 2011 07:40AM) (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments I've been a member of this group since October 2010 & I just discovered this thread like the oblivious idiot I am. Anyway, my book budget is almost nonexistent so I won't have many books to exclaim "Yay! I bought these!" but I'm excited about what I can afford.

I got these from Amazon Marketplace earlier this month:
Ecstasy in Darkness (Alien Huntress, #5) by Gena Showalter Kitty Goes to Washington (Kitty Norville, #2) by Carrie Vaughn Working for the Devil (Dante Valentine, #1) by Lilith Saintcrow

My library carries every book in the "Kitty Norville" series but book #2 & every book in the "Dante Valentine" series but book #1 (God, I hate that) so those were musts. And I threw in EiD because I love Gena Showalter. The price for all 3 books used? $12 & change. Not bad.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments Oh my gosh that irks me! Not having book 1 but having all the rest! I have run into a few like that. It is annoying so I just read something else and check from time to time to see if they get the missing books.

message 490: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments LOL! I do the same, Awesomevegan. My library sucks. They carry a decent amount of books but almost zero erotica/erotic romances. And most ER's I read are trade paperback so I have to part with my beloved cash. *tear* My library is afraid of mantitties.

::snort:: I had a mouthful of pop when I read that, I almost drowned.

I remember back when I borrowed Jackson Rule or some other Dinah McCall book from the library. It had one of those double covers. Pretty, generic cover lifted up to show the "hero" in all his manly glory. Well not all, he had pants. The ladies at the check out desk, all friends, told me how delicious the guy on the inside cover was and showed me the xerox copy they'd made of it. Wonder what they'd do if one of those came across the desk. LOL. Hmmm, reminds me of the Diet Coke commercial with all the women lined up at office windows watching the construction workers on break.

Great picks, Lethal! I read Working for the Devil back in '09 and gave it 4★, but for some reason didn't continue on. Need to move #2 to my "don't forget about me" list. :)

message 496: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments I've heard rumors about it over the last month, but I've never actually seen one. I've even read accounts here at Goodreads about reported sightings. Then last night, it happened. My friend and I were driving down the road, stopped under some bright lights, walked through a passageway and there it was, blocking our way. It was only about 3 - 3.5 feet tall, blue with a round red circle right in the middle. I studied the symbols inscribed inside the red circle and tears of joy came to my eye as I interpreted them. I had finally found it, the $1.99 book box at Wal-Mart. LOL. I was happy to finally find one at our local WM, it wasn't there last week. I tried to control myself, but still walked out with a good haul.

Marked (Eternal Guardians, #1) by Elisabeth Naughton Entwined (Eternal Guardians, #2) by Elisabeth Naughton The Accidental Demon Slayer (Demon Slayer, #1) by Angie Fox The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers (Demon Slayer, #2) by Angie Fox The Darkly Luminous Fight for Persephone Parker (Strangely Beautiful, #2) by Leanna Renee Hieber An Original Sin by Nina Bangs
Noble Intentions (Noble, #1) by Katie MacAlister Noble Destiny (Noble, #2) by Katie MacAlister The Hunt by Anne Marsh My Zombie Valentine by Katie MacAlister The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (Highland Pleasures, #1) by Jennifer Ashley Highlander Ever After (Nvengaria, #3) by Jennifer Ashley

You remember that episode of Friends where Rachel got an interview at Saks Fifth Avenue. And Phoebe commented, "Oh, it's like the mother ship is calling you home." That's how I felt last night.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments In the last few weeks, I've read about a couple other people finding them. They're pretty new, the one here was just put up in the last 5 days. There was a pretty good mix of books in there: PNR and UF, historical romances, westerns, horror, ... Hopefully, like the $5 DVD bin, it's here for the long haul.
