Anna | 1680 comments hmm the BBM app doesn't work on ipad as far as I can see. And I have to wear Christmassy stuff in to work tomorrow for photos. Humphr humbug...its not even December yet.

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Oh no, I hope you're getting extra money for that indignity LOL!

The only thing I really like about Christmas is the long holiday from work. The rest is a giant pain.

Though I do like Mircea in a Santa hat! :D

message 2153: by Anna (new)

Anna | 1680 comments I'll give you Mircea in a Santa hat:D

message 2154: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I am glad that none of my former jobs made me do something like that. The worst thing ever, I think, was a secret santa thing that wasn't too bad.
This is what I get for having jobs minus older people and people who actually liked the holidays~lol.

message 2155: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I think if I showed up at work in a Christmas outfit, I would be mocked mercilessly LOL! We're a bit grinch-like round these parts. My boss chucks Christmas cards straight into the bin! Free booze is always welcomed though. :D

message 2156: by Anna (last edited Nov 28, 2013 04:42PM) (new)

Anna | 1680 comments I've given up with work Christmas cards. Alcohol is a much better idea!
Incidentally should we be saying happy thanksgiving to the US contingent?

message 2157: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Oh yeah, belated Happy Thanksgiving to our US friends. :)

message 2158: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Thanks guys! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. So. Much. Food. The leftovers will feed us for days afterward.

And just this guy who acts as though we're romantically involved but does not actually ask me out.

1 week until finals. I'M GOING TO DIE.

message 2159: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Hang in there, Claire! And don't burst from leftovers, either. :)

@Lannister lol!
@Claire ...so ... is he into coffee..., fitness, weapons, potions...blonde spiky hair by any chance?? Just a thought....

Arushi | 3652 comments So I have news!! I am sorry I was gone for a while.. One of my uncles got married.. so it was a weeklong party!!

And I finished Nanowrimo!! I am so happy though I swear I felt like I was killing myself the last few days! But its finally done!!! I probably would not have died if not for the wedding... but oh well. It was a lot of fun!

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I'M BACKKKKK!!! Between defending my thesis (which went well), thanksgiving holidays and being pregnant, I am exhausted! I just want to curl up and read. lol

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I think you should! These are Doctor Lannister's orders! :)

Arushi, sorry, I overlooked this comment earlier.

Boy do you guys know how to party!! I love the idea of a week-long party to celebrate a wedding. Hope you enjoyed it. :)

Also, congrats on finishing NaNoWriMo! That's a great achievement. What was your story about?

Arushi | 3652 comments Zeenat wrote: "I'M BACKKKKK!!! Between defending my thesis (which went well), thanksgiving holidays and being pregnant, I am exhausted! I just want to curl up and read. lol"

Welcome back!!! I concur with Doctor Lannister. You should do exactly what you want to :) and pamper yourself loads!!!

@Lannister - Yep. Marriages here are a LOT of fun. Mostly its getting together to do marriage related stuff - get henna tattoos done on your hands, other wedding ceremonies, dance parties, and of course close family (in this wedding, that meant nearly a 100 ppl!!!) eat lunch and dinner together everyday from the first ceremony (when the marriage is officially ON) to the last ceremony (when you say good bye to the gods - there is a ceremony to invite them to the wedding too - and your guests officially)

So yeah it was loads of fun. Plus it was my Mom's Mom's family (yep i have a really extended family and I am close to all of them) and a bunch of those people do not live in the city. So it was good to spend time with everyone.

About Nanowrimo - since I was gone for a week in the middle - I nearly died finishing the damned thing but it was so worth it. My story is not done yet - but I have a LOT of it sorted now.

Its urban fantasy but beyond that, I have no idea how to explain what it is. Its kinda a weird book. But I love it :)

message 2167: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Btw, the latest rock chick book is hilarious and I liked it a bit more than the last few. Its not over the top and its not exactly about someone discovering themselves - like the last one was.

Like in one of the other books, which we discussed no end coz of Tack, there is a HILARIOUS scene where the girls decide to discuss "locations" at a wedding, with the guys all wanting to kill themselves - especially when they realized they'd been to the same place.

Posting that in the Kristen Ashley thread. BUT, there is another scene which I loved. That is below. Not a spoiler.

“Jesus, you’re shitfaced at your brother’s wedding." .......

....when Roxie tossed her bouquet, I was doing tequila shooters at the bar.

Therefore I was feeling very happy and this didn’t only have to do with the tequila shooters. It had to do with the fact that my big brother and my good friend were all kinds of happy.

What I was not was shitfaced.

And I decided to inform Ren of this fact.

“I’m far from shitfaced, Zano.”

“You’re hammered,” he returned.

Hammered was not shitfaced. I was a bartender and lived the life of a rock star, I would know. I had studied the levels of insobriety both practically and observationally. Hammered was three steps down from shitfaced. There was smashed, blotto, and wasted to get through. I had at least six tequila shooters to go before I got even close to shitfaced.

I did not take the time to educate Ren about this.

Am I the only one who thinks this is funny? Please validate my crazy ;)

message 2168: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments As a Scot, I can completely relate to describing inebriation, since getting drunk is practically our national pastime. It's very important to know what level of intoxication you're dealing with! :D

Also, it's even more impressive that you finished NaNoWriMo when you weren't around for a week. Well done!

message 2169: by Anna (new)

Anna | 1680 comments Chill out Zeenat; well done on your thesis. Congrats Arushi!

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I was sick, something stomachy has been going on, but it was short lived and me and the little alien are fine. I had my first appt last week, and we had a surprise ultrasound. I'm a week later than I thought, so we're due july 20th. And the baby looks like a white blob. That's it. LOL At least there was a heart beat.

Anyone else want to go job hunt for me? ugh lol

I SURVIVED. Barely. But it's fine because now I can surround myself with all things Christmas and recuperate slowly.

How are you all?

Says the person whose profile picture already has a santa hat on!

message 2183: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments LOL!

That's my sorry attempt at Christmas cheer - the one place that I 'decorate'. (I don't have a Christmas tree or any other decorations up.)

My Christmas spirit peaked at the start of December with Mircea in a santa hat. Now I'm just counting down the days till the holidays and beer o'clock! :P

And Masks. Hopefully.

Does everyone else do the whole Christmassy thing with a big tree and lots of decorations?

message 2184: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I don't normally, our place isn't decorated. I guess next year with a baby we will.

I don't celebrate Christmas so no decorations here.

message 2186: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments We do the whole thing with the tree. I've strung the front columns with lights, wreath on the front door, electric candles in the windows. The house looks so pretty in the snow, it's totally worth it!

message 2187: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments We aren't getting a tree this year. My mom decorated a bit though, I know this because of the stupid ass garland she put around the counter. I use that counter when I walk to the kitchen/through the dining room as a guide and the garland sticks out so I can't touch the wall. I also have a slight chance to knock off the crap she has hanging from it.
The reason we don't have a tree is that Friday we are going to drive to Southern California for the next week. It is the first time that part of the family has been together for Christmas in a looonnnng time.

message 2188: by Anna (new)

Anna | 1680 comments I got home a couple of days ago and the kids had put up all the decorations.Yey! Love it; all the fun, no work and the kids are happy bunnies!
To celebrate, I put fairy lights up at work for the first time ever this year, and surprisingly, it makes me smile every time I walk into my room.

Surely Christmas is just a countdown to Hogmanay up in your neck of the woods Lannister?

Utah is #18 state to allow same sex marriage!

Changed my profile pic back to the marriage equality symbol, embellished with vampire fangs of course.....

Arushi | 3652 comments Enjee wrote: "Utah is #18 state to allow same sex marriage!"

That's great!

On the other hand, in one hell of a crazy twist, its illegal to be gay in India. Again! A few years ago the courts had decided that it was okay, and the law was archaic, but now another higher court has decided that the law may be archaic but has to be followed. They did however ask the parliament to change the law. I am ashamed of these people. They should know and do better.

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments This is a good sub to bring up with mom to piss her southern baptist ass off when you don't agree with her.
Good thing we were in public otw to CA I think she wanted to throttle me....
I'm all for it and think those against need to stfu and mind their own business.

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I think Utah doing it is a great turning point! Great direction for our country!

message 2193: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I read about the decision in Utah, and how the City Hall is flooded with people wanting to get married immediately. What a great feeling it must be for them! :D

A bill is going through the Scottish Parliament right now and, although it's not finalised, it's generally supported and expected to pass, so hopefully by this time next year same sex marriage will be legal in Scotland too.

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments My mom is driving me nuts. It is like as soon as we left to drive to California I turned 2yrs old and are completely helpless.... She has done some really shitty stuff. I thought my new brother in law thought I was an idiot after my fun time at their new house ... I said that to other sister who then told the other sister. Good thing she did so my sister could confirm her husband did think I was an idiot ... she asked her husband otw to the family thing~
I love my family. He got a crash course on how crazy we are last night.

I can only imagine your pain Maggie. See what you have to look forward to with the spawn Zeenat?! lol
