If you do a ctrl alt del you can bring up your task manager and you should have a tab that tells what programs start with windows and you can remove those you don't need. Win 8 even tells how much impact each program has on the start up.

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments @Lannister Today Roommate 1 explained projected Roommate 2 was working on was similar to a raspberry pi. I immediately thought of you (mainly because you're the only reason I knew she was talking about a computer type thing and not a dessert.)

Just finished my first midterm!!! Wooo!!

Have a study sessions planned for the weekend with someone from my two other classes...but he's incredibly attractive so I have no idea if I'll be able to concentrate on math or not. Struggles.

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments After gaming for so long I usually had everything turned off that wasn't essential for my computer because I needed all of the resources for my game. I used run> msconfig to check out what ran on start up to see if I could disable some processes. Getting crap outta your startup folder in >programs can help to. Unless you like somethings starting right at startup and not turning them on yourself. I am not a computer specialist ... and that is for xp and vista no clue how 7 and 8 are. I hope easier on the computerun- literate. Just getting crap out of the startup folder made my comp boot up and run faster.

@Rod:
Threading is using a thread to pluck out hair ... like tweezers ... but with a thread ... no clue what it looks like since it got popular after I lost my sight. That and the little asian women who do that usually treat me like I am touched in the head and don't usually speak good english so I can ask them questions and feel what they are doing. The weird things I imagine though....

Yay! :) Your roommate's project sounds interesting! Also, good luck with the studying LOL! I hope your attractive study partner doesn't remind you of Pritkin in any way. Cos if so, you'll get no studying done at all!

message 2006: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments @Lannister She's a physics major, so it's definitely interesting.

Additionally, he does remind me of Pritkin. It's an issue.

Missdevora | 2142 comments @Claire Lucky you (or not ?) for having that kind of study parner :) Good luck with the studying and every time you see him and you have to concentrate and you can't.... think of the nasty psicotic Jack (brrr!)or some ugly guy.

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments And resist the temptation to fix his angry hair (if he has angry hair, of course!)

message 2009: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Llaph - Threading is basically taking a thread, looping it around your forefinger and thumb and then curling the ends around each other. Then if you pull (as in keep pulling and ten loosening up) on one of the ends, while keeping the other stable (usually it is still attached to the roll) then the the two threads kinda curl around each other pretty fast. If you move that over skin, hair gets caught up in it and pulled out.

That was as good as I could manage, and I hope I am right.

On another note, Congrats on finishing your first mid term Claire :D Awesome!!!

@Zeenat - I recently started using C Cleaner (the free version) and its pretty good to clean out stuff from your computer. It lets you see it all in one place and you can figure out what you don't need.

Though Lannister or any of our other tech experts might be able to tell you about something else that works better.

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I don't use Windows so I'm not that up to date on its software. I've heard of CCleaner though, and I think it has a good reputation.

message 2012: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I saw my neurologist this morning. He came in while I was listening to something on my phone. He stuck his hand out to be shook and at the same time I was trying to put up my phone and ear buds. It took me a second, I shook his hand back, and he asked me: "having vision problems today?"
I said, "Yes, I can't see a thing."
My mom had to ruin it by informing him that I am blind and asking that didn't he have that written in my charts?
To be fair he has only seen me a handful of times since ’08 and was almost finished with a 72 hour stint of being on call.
I thought he was being sarcastic ... nope he doesn't do sarcasm and felt bad at first. Till I made him laugh again heh.
On a goodish sort of note, I hope I don't jinx it, he is going to re test the nerves in my hands to see if my nueropothy can be fixed via surgery. I never talked to him about it since the doctor I saw after I got out of the hospital told me it wasn't possible to fix it. Apparently my sort is weird because only the palm side of my hands are numb. Oh, and my feet are not affected and that is usually what gets it first. Who knows....

My ortho doctor, who replaced my hips, is one of my favorite doctors and is as sarcastic as hell. I saw him last friday. He has a facination with my cane and asked me where it was. I said that I had gotten a telescoping cane so that I could fit it into my purse. He took it from my purse (he was sitting on the table next to me) and started to mess with it asking what to do and trying to lock it. He thought he had and swung it ... nope ... he nearly brained my mom with it. lol He then told me that my cane was stupid ... I told him that it was only stupid because he couldn't figure it out. I think my yearly check ups are just social calls lol. We just sit and talk for 20 minutes after getting the req questions outta the way.

message 2013: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments That's cool that you have a great relationship with your doctors, Llaph. It can be quite stressful going for checkups and whatnot and I think it really helps if you can banter with the docs. But, that's a bit of a big oopsie not realising you were blind LOL! Hope your new tests go well.

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments FINALLY DONE WITH MIDTERMS. I think I might be dead. I'm really excited to sleep.

Unfortunately I have to start thinking about a paper I have in 2 weeks. Grump.

message 2016: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments ugh I hate that. You are excited to be done with midterms, and then something else is just on the horizon. But yay for being done!

message 2017: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Yeaaaahhh it's upsetting.

I might go to bed super early tonight just because I can. I keep waking up in the middle of the night overheated.

message 2018: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Thanks, I am trying to not get too excited about it. I usually think the worse so that when good does happen it is a pleasant surprise.

message 2019: by Duca (new)

Duca (sapphireofslytherin) | 468 comments This is quite random (but oddly still kind of related) I was watching Planes Trains and Automobiles today and in it there's a blond couple snogging on the bus, the girl has curly hair and the guy's is kinda shoulder length but spiky... can you guess which of my favourite fictional couples it reeeeaaaally strongly reminded me of? Lol

message 2020: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments My sister changed cell providers today and had asked to use my phone to call someone. I didn't think it would take so long ... I am halfway done with The Duke of Midnight and I am feeling all twitchy and crap.
SHE HAS MY PHONE which = my books....

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I'm watching Friday the 13th Part VI and it's SO BAD. I can't handle the cheesiness.

But it's helping me get over my relatively shitty day, so there's that

message 2022: by Duca (new)

Duca (sapphireofslytherin) | 468 comments Aw sorry to hear that Claire, I certainly know how that feels! If you like have a look at this scene I thought looked a bit like Cassie and Pritkin snogging on the bus. If they time travelled to the 80's. In costume. And they had to take a bus for some reason. And their relationship had evolved to a serious PDA stage XD http://youtu.be/FxBSOIBOylA
It definitely cheered me up yesterday :P

message 2023: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments LOL, I don't quite see that guy as Pritkin but I approve of the snogging.

However, if we're talking about curly blondes in movies, I nominate this scene (and you'll just have to pretend the guy is Pritkin).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZluz...

I like to think this is what really happened at that diner place in Hunt the Moon. No wonder it blew up!

message 2024: by Duca (new)

Duca (sapphireofslytherin) | 468 comments Omg Lanni I love you!! I think you blew my brain up imagining that happening in the diner scene instead :D

message 2025: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments LOL! You'll never be able to see that scene quite the same way again!

Oh! That's new! Mine eats socks...and destroyed a cute new bikini top (I didn't get to use it not even once, booo!).

@Duca that bus OMG! I'm glad I didn't get to ride in the 80's because of the smoking. That girl do looks like Cassie!

@Lannister LOL about the dinner scene!

message 2031: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Llaph how do you wash them?

I can only buy expensive bras (stupid big boobs) so I wash them very carefully. Super Gentle cycle with only a couple of bras. Full water (more water more gentle), and the special lingerie detergent. Makes my bras last longer.

Even better would be to use a mesh bag, but things don't stay in them for me.

Best is to handwash, but who has the time for that?

message 2032: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I used to just wash them with my lights and never had an issue like this. That is what I get for getting bras with lace layer over cups and trying to have pretty bras. I think I will try my mesh bag, I used to use for socks before I got new ones. It has never opened on me . should be big enough. I have to wait for another sale--damn big boobs. My bras usually last a long time . I never dry them.
They were only a few months old too. :(

message 2033: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I always keep my bras in a laundry bag.

@Zeenat Most laundry bags come with a zipper, so everything should stay where you put it

I'm home for parents weekend. I got a much needed mani pedi with my mom today, which was nice.

message 2034: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I don't know, I think I have bad luck cause the zipper comes undone every time!

message 2036: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Hahah your bras want freedom!!

I'm applying for an internship that wants a copy of my unofficial transcript. This would be find, except that I can't figure out how to save the website as one page to upload. Grump.

message 2037: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments LOL Well they are probably tired of holding up the girls. lol I just got new ones though. Spent a pretty penny on them, but the are great cause they fit well lol

Claire have you tried print screen? Or maybe getting one from the school?

message 2038: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Claire, what format is your transcript in? I'm confused when you say you want to save a website to upload. Is it already online? Is the problem that it is multiple web pages?

message 2039: by Anna (last edited Oct 22, 2013 03:38PM) (new)

Anna | 1680 comments Transcript? Is that like a project? Hope it works.

message 2040: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Anna transcript is a record of your grades and such in school.

message 2041: by Anna (new)

Anna | 1680 comments Like a CV? Huh! Never come across that in UK. I'd only use that word to say a written record of speech.

message 2042: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Ya, well you people have weird words and stuff.

A rubber is a rubber damnit, I still giggle when it is used for the UK meaning. I wonder what I would say to someone who told me that they were going to "knock me up".

I am so juvenile I know....

message 2043: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Anna wrote: "Like a CV? Huh! Never come across that in UK. I'd only use that word to say a written record of speech."

CV can also mean resume right? We use CV to talk about resume in the academic form, like a professor's resume is called a CV

message 2044: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments We're so highbrow with our Latin names in the UK. ;) A CV is a Curriculum Vitae and it's what you send to a potential employer outlining your work and education history. That's what you Statesiders call a resume, right? A CV isn't restricted to any one profession in the UK.

I'd never heard of transcript in the sense you guys use it either.

message 2045: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Yeah CV = Resume. Like I said, we use CV only in academic professions, and they write differently than Resumes.

Transcript is education record. Your grades what your major is. Sometimes if you hold important positions in school. SAT scores maybe? I don't know what else.

message 2046: by Anna (last edited Oct 25, 2013 03:07PM) (new)

Anna | 1680 comments Hmm, Sounds like a CV in UK is a resume, transcript and/or CV in the US. I don't think we have separate styleS we just adapt it for the audience.

@Llaph- give them a slap?... Just a suggestion *smiles sweetly*
