Enjoy Tempt the Stars!

These are really interesting. Thanks Sarah.

About the dinosaur porn - The look on that Dinosaur's face is funny, but I am not sure if I am weirded out or amused by the whole thing. There are all kind of shifters, but somehow there is a line. This one long jumped right over it. Shrug. To each their own.

Anna | 1680 comments Congratulations on your job Arushi. Hope your flatmate war has been resolved Claire. You sound like you are having a fun time with hubby Zeenat.

Is anyone else annoyed by the flashing book adverts on their home page. I like Mog Rossoff but the adverts are seriously tacky.
I may be able to pick up my TtS copy this afternoon *happy dance*

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I use Adblock and never see any ads. I highly recommend this add-on. (I use it in Firefox but I think there's a Chrome version too. Not sure about other browsers.)

Also, yay for Tempt the Stars! Look forward to hearing your thoughts, Anna. :)

Thanks Anna :) Yeah I don't like the ads much but I am very good at ignoring what is right in front of me.

Have fun reading TtS :)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Finally home! I might go apple-picking this weekend. It's disgustingly warm outside for October (We're talking 80 degrees, or 30 degrees for you Celsius people). But I'll be damned if I let unseasonably warm weather get in the way of my apple pie.

message 1967: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I really hate the fact that I can't rename pics that I put on my phone. I shouldn't really complain about this or the fact that the FB app for my phone won't read the check boxes to me so I can only post 1 pic at a time.
I was being a smart ass and took a pic of my sister while my mom, her, and me were otw to the mall. She was being a asshat and reclined the front seat way back so that the headrest was between my legs. So ... I took a pic, posted it to FB and titled it something about Angie having entitlement issues.
It would have been funny if I posted the right pic. It said "taken just now" for the pic and I though I picked it.... I picked a pic of my dog Boomer instead....
I, as a blind person, am deeply offended that I have to deal with these issues to post a picture. The nerve ... a blind person wanting to post pictures!

Also, what crack head came up with threading for your eyebrows? I get tweezers and wax ... but did someone just have a lightbulb moment about using string to do it or what?? It does hurt more than waxing--it better last longer or I will hurt my sister.
It reminds me of the one time I got my brows done by this one woman, it felt like she was plucking each hair out on its own wrong. I don't know how to explain it, my friend Tiffany did the same thing the time I let her do my eyebrows.

message 1968: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I have never let anyone else mess about with my eyebrows. All they need is the occasional touch up with some tweezers and I can do that just fine!

message 1969: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments pfft ya, cuz your eyes work! I used to have to do the same when I still had my sight. If I kept it up I didn't have to do much about it.
I thought about waxing my own ... but do people realize how difficult it is to go/be straight when blind? No point of refrrence ... at least that is how it is to me. I veered into the crossing a few times when crossing the street when I was doing my rehab in Austin. People are so nice there!

*sigh* you have a point. But I don't see the point in threading, either. Not unless your eyebrows are very bad.

I have to pluck my little sister's eyebrows for her. She's perfectly capable of doing it herself...she's just too lazy. I can't get her to see the huge difference it makes to her face!

message 1971: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments This was the first time I let my sister talk me into it. If I let someone else do it I usually pay for it to get done. My skin is still super sore and crap. Normally, if I just waxed them they were sore for that day and a lot less the nextday.
I guess they were sorta bad, I don't remember the last time I got my brows done. I am lucky to have nicely shaped brows anyways so I don't get the 80s Brooke Shields's eyebrows.... Seriously, I think they forgot what tweezers were back then.
I used to buy this wax, heat it up, spread it, wait for it to cool, and take it off. It made things so easy.
There were times it felt like a weight off of my face, sort of like if you have long ass hair and then cut it short?

Don't mind me I had a sudafed. <3 TX At least it is done being 90+ temps!

message 1972: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments I always get my eyebrows threaded - most people have not even heard of waxing your brows in India. Threading does ten to last longer and it works better for me.

Llaph - You should wait before you kill your sister - and spread some astringent on your brows or a lotion. Its actually very easy to break skin with the thread - as compared to wax where that just does not happen.

message 1973: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Now that you said that about it being popular there it makes more sense to me. I guess if you can't do it one way you figure out how to do it another way. I will have to see I guess if it lasts longer, mostly remember that I did it. For waxing I have paid $6-$8 to get them done and the threading was $12.
I can beat my sister up anytime. It is fun to make her feel bad for a little bit though. She knows I am never serious. Her favorite phrase "you'll get over it" she doesn't mean that seriously ... most of the time anyway.

message 1974: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments ewwwww I HATE threading!!! People swear to me it hurts less than waxing, but I find threading worse than waxing every single time. I get my eyebrows, upper lip, under arms, and brazillian regularly cause hair annoys me lol I know TMI, just showing how much I hate threading lol

message 1975: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments If you think that that is TMI you do not know my family at all.... lol
I can't do my eyebrows, but I can wax other stuff that doesn't depend on being even. I just ordered and got another thing of nads. Seriously I had to get it off of amazon, because my mom could never find it in stores. She would find the pre-done strips and junk, but not the jar of stuff. pfft
Err, painful I guess would be this thing I bought a few years ago. It is like a bajillion tweezers in one that spins like a razor and tweezes a lot at a time. Yeah, it sounds painful I guess ... for me after a bit I don't feel it. It reminds me of when I got my tattoo, after the initial buzz my skin just got kinda numb.

Thinking about using that near my no-no spot makes me cringe and cross my legs. ohmigawd that would hurt like a bitch.

Arushi | 3652 comments What Lanni said. Plus TMI was there even before the net ;)

@Zeenat - I cannot let wax near my face. Always hurts more... but initially I thought it hurt less too until I got used to threading. If it works for you, then it works.

message 1982: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I don't think of y'all as strangers--strange yes--strangers no. I profess to being weird/strange so it is not a bad thing for me!

Wax doesn't really hurt ... it is just one rip and you are done. If they do it slow though, then you will have the urge to throat punch them. That reminds me of a memory I had from when I had just gotten out of the hospital and my mom was helping me wax my legs (don't ask) and she did everything else right, but was hesitant to hurt me so pulled slow. omgwtf that hurts.... I told her to just rip it and be fast about it, she eventually got faster. Do you know what helped her? Saying "ta-da!" as she was doing it. I shit you not she ta'da'd and I imagine she did the arm gestures too.

Talking about tmi, did you know they sell freaking patterns to use when you wax your nono spot? I heard them while looking for what I needed on amazon.... I of course have nfi what they look like, but I am picturing happy faces, ponies, strawberries, or other silly things.

Strange!

message 1983: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments @Llaph It makes me laugh that you say "throat punch" all the time like it's this totally common expression.

@Claire:
You mean it is not used all of the time? It should be imo. My sister and I use it a lot ... or does she threaten to smash my face? I forget. Isn't it like only 3 lbs of pressure to crush a throat? Important information I am thinking!

Seriously though:

@Lannister I hate what google did to gmail too! and youtube keeps putting my name if I comment or like insead of my nickname every time I click on a new video, grrrr!

@Zeenat Nice post :)

Related to our TtS quiz: I just finished reading The Shepherd and laught because they used acid in loction to melt the cheerleader's face. I wonder if Mello got inspired there hahaha :)

No just the last twenty or thirty. Still not sure what threading is though. LOL

On the browser debate i use Chrome and have for many years it is the fastest nd est i have found so far.

message 1992: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Missdevora, +1 on Firefox. I've been using it since it was still called Firebird about ten years ago! There are some extensions on Firefox that I can't live without. I accept that Chrome probably is marginally faster, but I've always supported Mozilla's philosophy and their commitment to the open web. Plus I hate Google these days LOL!

message 1993: by Rodney (new)

Rodney (bdaddyrod) | 13 comments I have always been anything that wasn't IE Netscape back in the day Firefox Opera safari but i like some of the features of Chrome like the voice search and image search as well as being faster than most of the other browsers available.

message 1994: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Yeah, anything but IE is fine with me! :)

message 1995: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I remember when it was firebird.... I used it exclusively before my stroke and was stuck with IE after I had to learn a screen reader because that was what they taught it on. After I was able to get my own computer I got FF pretty fast. I am pretty annoyed at the accessibility part of it a lot of the times, the bookmark/history tab annoys the hell out of me and I was thankful to find a fix for the dl window. I almost had forgotten how much I loved that thing till it was taken away lol. IE's is just stupid, sometimes I need to use it for somethings and get totally confused as to what to do.
I have had a gmail account since it was in beta and the same email addy for 10 years or something. The other email is a gmail addy and is just as old that I used/use for internet stuff. )Like my game account and msg board logins) it is just a catch all now.
I was mainly bitching about IOS 7 on my IPhone, I wish I hadn’t upgraded it last night.  Too late now! I just have to get a 5s no … my 4s is not fast enough imo. It is lagging and takes forever to load my FB app and crap. Icons on folders that let me know an app had new items seems to be gone too unless I open the f’ing folder which defeats the purpose of the damn icons in the first place for me.
That and I can’t just swipe and delte an email. I have to do like 3 extra steps and apparently the option I need to change voice over doesn’t “see it” so I am stuck with it till I get a sightling to look @ it for me.
Gah—if it is not broken wtf fix it?!

Side note: I just heard my dad yell @ She-Ra … “SHUT THE F UP” with the full f word … can so tell my mom ain’t home. lolol

I am also procrastinating!

message 1996: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Oh, and as to gmail changes ... I don't see them! I have had mine in basic html mode since '08 haha so no big changes!

message 1997: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Woohoo I figured it out ... stupid labeling is dumb for voice over. Instead of there being an advanced label put onto a button space is saved by just making something clickable. pffft

message 1998: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I used to use firefox but it was slow and caused problems. I prefer chrome over anything else.

message 1999: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Some extensions can be badly coded and really slow Firefox down, but if you manage to avoid those, I've found the difference between it and Chrome to be fairly negligible (on Linux, anyway). But different strokes and all that! :)

message 2000: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I wish I was more computer literate as far as cleaning up the junk in the background. My one computer makes so much noise because there is so many programs running in the background (I used to be bad at dl'ing stuff and downloaded dumb crap). This computer does well otherwise.
