Cos' seriously, if the Cassie books are too long? Do they only read short stories?
And if that's the case - well, we shouldn't let it bother us. :)
(If anything, I usually get the end of the book and curse the publishers for capping KC's word count! cos' I inevitably want MORE! ;P)
I'm not going to judge people if they don't like Cassie, cos we all like different things, but I agree that the comments about the books being too long are a bit odd. I think Fury's Kiss and maybe Hunt the Moon were longish, compared to the average UF book, but the rest were pretty much average. I don't get that complaint at all. I agree with Jax, if you like a book, longer is better, cos you can really lose yourself in the story (though, as an epic fantasy fan, I don't consider 400-500 pages to be especially long. ~350 pages is not long at all! Also, Duane, on October Daye, LOL! Sorry! :) It just didn't grab me by the end of the first book and there's too much else out there competing for my attention.
I'm not actually "upset" per se...More like slightly confused by their reactions. I mean they really are average length books, especially the first few.
Claire, mello, super close to you guys now ;-). Visiting family and friends for the week, then appending a week in VA Beach. We just drove for 3 days, 2000 miles from El Paso TX
Hello! Sorry I've kind of away lately...but thesis was killing me!The good news:
I'm done with my thesis! yey!
Not so good news:
The moment I got out after the oral esposition, I had a huge smile on my face and did a happy awkward dance and people were staring but I was like: I don't care if my dance looks strange!
Bad news:
Now I have to wait for the grade!
Fantastic news:
I can finally speak and partcipate more in the group :) staring tomorrow...now I'm off to dreamland..hopefully KC's men will come and visit my dreams.
My paper is driving me crazy la la la
seriously I've consumed 2 pots of coffee and now I'm on to bubble tea. Between caffeine and sugar I'm so wired.
I'M DONE WITH THIS PAPER. Okay, I was done this morning but I've finally had a chance to announce it joyously. I'm pleased.
My one week in MD has been great, but busy. I can't wait to go relax at the beach! I hope the water isn't tooooo cold.
Pooh, you're taunting me. I finally gave in and turned on my heating for the first time in months. :(
Lannister - too cold is better than too hot. I need air conditioning even at night. Its ridiculous!!! @Zeenat - Have fun!!!
@Claire - Which Cal and Niko book are you on now??? I am so excited for you to catch up :)
I lived in LA for 5 years and I don't think that I turned on the heater more than 3 times and I constantly had the AC going. It is in the high 9-s atm ... my mom was excited at the drop from the 100s we had been having before. I hatehatehate the pollen crap around here, my sinuses are driving me nuts. Thank God for sudafed and zirtec....I had to rely on my dad to replace the fan in my comp and he didn't get the time till Saturday. Then, it turns out that the store didn't have the fan for my case and my dad ended up ordering it from amazon anyway. I hate having to rely on other people for this sort of thing, at least I do all of the research so he only has to go buy stuff. My mom told me to keep using my computer till I got an error message. I asked her if she was the sort of person that waited for the oil light to come on before she changed her oil too. She answered with "not anymore".
At least I learned how to use my phone's FB app a little better and the new twitter app I had installed....
Side note:
I cleaned our bathroom the other day and did not put stuff back right this time ... I had switched my conditioner with my shampoo. Then it turns out I had been using my shampoo as body wash and vice versa.... I love being blind and not having much of a sense of smell or touch.... I also adore sisters who swear up and down that they did not switch my bottles around. grrr
Oh Llaph, I'm sorry about your shower mishaps. Maybe you could buy shower gel that smells quite differently, like the peppermint ones or strongly fruity ones (there's a lemon scented shower gel I use that I can't get enough of. It smells so delicious!)I always try to put off turning on the heating for the first time, because it's sort of an admission of defeat. Once you turn it on, that's you kissing decent weather goodbye for another year. :( *hates the cold*
It is partly my fault to be honest. I have pump bottles for my shampoo and conditioner--when I finished one I used it for my body wash. So, I have 3 bottles that feel the same and I should have marked them more or ... like ... paid attention pffft.I have been thinking about trying another shampoo. It is hard though, since I generally just give my list to my mom and she gets whatever I had before. There is not much browsing going on unless I actually go to the store with my mom.
Thanks for reminding me that I wanted to look for peppermint or lemon body wash! I had thought about that before, but kept forgetting to write it down. I had to google shampoo with tea tree oil in it and places that sell them. I remember a bf from a long time ago's mom worked for an organic food/whatever place and she gave me samples of the shampoo with that in it. It felt good and smelled so nice, plus it is a strong scent so I could tell the difference. hah
I hope you find something nice, Llaph. I often stand in the shop opening bottles of shower & bath products so that I can smell them. Not sure what the shop workers think of that LOL! And I have accidentally squirted shower gel up my nose too. Not fun!!
...How, exactly, did you manage that Lannister? Was there an especially strong smell you wanted to clear out of your nose? =pI found out I'm getting a fourth fucking roommate. Tomorrow, some random girl is going to be in my bedroom. I'm so mad. She got to pick out of 3 vacancies in the building and we don't get a say. Plus, when she stopped by she literally walked right by me into the room without asking if she could come in, and never gave me her name. So needless to say, tomorrow morning I will be marching down to the housing office.
@Lannister:Ya, me and my mom do that. We don't care what people think cuz we wanna know! Speaking of squirting up noses ... my mom has done that to me before. I am pretty hesitant to sniff stuff now. I have to get close to smell things though and I don't always pick up the smell depending on what it is.
Weird is that I can smell garlic, but I can't taste it. I can't taste avacado either, it is just mush for the most part if it is plain avacado.
@Claire:
I know how you feel for the most part. The only thing that I can say is maybe that is her way of dealing with that sort of situation? I know when I am nervous I tend to be quiet and try not to be noticed. That has a side effect of looking like I am ignoring someone sometimes though.... I just hope for your sake she is not a heinous bitch and you will have to ask for ways to get back at her.
Claire, sometimes when you pop the lid, you can't really smell the contents, so you give the bottle the tiniest of squeezes ... and a great blob of shower gel shoots up right up your nose. I'd like to say it only happened once but no, I am that dumb that I've done it a few times LMAO!
Llaph, thank you! I'm so glad I'm not the only one LOL!
@Llaph I'm going to bitch at housing tomorrow, because this chick seems to have shopped around the buildings and picked us out. I feel targeted!! So yeah, you can bet that housing is going to hear from me. @Lannister I have this image of you flailing around in shock in some fancy bath products place
@Claire - I hope you can kick housing into seeing sense n get this sorted. It really would suck to have a bad roommate. @Lannister - I now have the same image as claire... n I cannot stop laughing. I actually tend to sniff shower gels too... but this is the first time I have ever heard of someone squirting it up their nose.
Claire, lol, you're not far off! Arushi, clearly nose-squirting is a special talent of mine!! ;)
In other news, OMG IT'S FRIDAY! *does happy dance*
@Lannister:In my defense ... my mom did it ... not me!
@Claire:
Just the idea of a roomate freaks me out ... I hate the idea of my stuff being touchable by strangers. I am weird about my stuff though, it is not like I have uber-cool-nifty stuff worth messing with either. It is very easy to hide stuff from blind people btw--yes I did hide stuff when I was at criss Cole. ><
Ick @ having to share space with someone you don't like for months, been there , done that, and I don't really want to keep the t-shirt.
I don't even like the idea of living in an apartment. Maybe I am spoiled or something?
I went to sleep..and they kidnapped me! Ok joke :)This week the weather was so nice that I spent my time outdoors and just opend computer for 5 mins to check mail and try to win one of TtS copies that KC gives away thru facebook. I didn't even read *shame on me*
@Lannister : I also love to smell shampoos and gel...and once that happened to me. My mom likes cologne and almost everytime she wants to change it she ends up with a bit up her nose.
@Claire: I'm happy that you finished the paper. Hope that girl can move into another room *fingers crossed* and if not...I hope she turns up to be nice :)
@Llaph: I shared room for 6 months once and the girl was nice but she tended to touch my things every day or so and I hate when people they do that. I like to be alone in my room...do whatever and when I want. So you are not spoiled or if you are then I'm too!
@Arushi: Congrads on your new work post and thanks...that night I did sleep well. Nice profile picture, such a pretty smile :D
Phone conversation I just had with a work colleague ...ME [sounding slightly puzzled]: Hey, are you off on Monday?
COLLEAGUE [also puzzled]: No. No, I'm not.
ME [triumphantly]: Ha! Then it must be me! Hahahahaha!!
COLLEAGUE: Swears loudly and slams the phone down
Colleague appears in my office soon after threatening murder.
Teehee, I am *so* easily amused! (And I'm also off on Monday)
:D
Missdevora wrote: "@Arushi: Congrads on your new work post and thanks...that night I did sleep well. Nice profile picture, such a pretty smile :D "Aww thank you :)
@Lannister - you're evil... but it must be awesome to have a monday off :D
Today's useless trivia ...You know how every country has a National Animal? Today I learned that Scotland's national animal is a UNICORN!! How effing cool is that?!
I have no idea how we ended up with a fictitious creature as our national animal. Presumably a lot of whisky was involved ....
I think it is from that heraldry junk you people made up. :PNational animal of a unicorn is pretty awesome though. Still like our bald eagle, they are pretty cool to look at.
Llaph wrote: "I think it is from that heraldry junk you people made up."LMAO!! Yeah, that's pretty much my take on it too. The powers that be got pissed out their faces one night and decided to have a unicorn on their shields!
It works for me. :D
I forget what it symbolizes, I think England's is a lion? I knew all of this stuff before. Somehow I think it got strained out of my head so that something stupid and inconsequential could replace it.
Lannister that is seriously cool!!! I wish we had a fictious animal... maybe a dragon.Still, I can't complain. We did good.. Tigers are awesome :D But we have a different animal for everything - which I just checked on Wiki. I only knew the bird and animal.
I love peacocks so the bird is super cool :)
But there is
National Aquatic Animal - Ganges River Dolphin
National Heritage Animal - Elephant
Humm not sure why we need so many.. but shrug.
Arushi, Wales has the dragon as it's national animal. I guess we're real big of fantasy animals here in the UK LOL! Tigers are pretty damn cool, though and I *adore* elephants.Llaph, you're right that England has the lion. Even that's odd, cos the only lions in the UK are in zoos. Maybe it was different a thousand odd years ago. I dunno.
Sarah, LMAO! And don't forget the narwhal, the unicorn of the ocean ...
Gotta love a narwhal. Trust the British to have imaginary animals as their national symbol.
I heard in one of my classes that there used to lions in North America but Native Americans hunted them to extinction.
Those are cool, Sarah. The guy who's testing the bullet-proof vest - by being shot at! - certainly earns his money!!What I learned on the interwebs today ...
Apparently dinosaur erotica is a thing.
http://dangerousminds.net/comments/t-...
I have to confess to laughing at the look on the dinosaur's face on the cover of 'Mating with the Raptor'.
But really, I have no words ....
Llaph, you aren't really missing much, believe me! Mostly it's book covers with a dinosaur and a babe in a bikini standing just in front of it. With the raptor one I talked about, the model's back is to us and the raptor's looking at her, and it looks like it's totally checking out her boobs. Or maybe trying to figure out if he could bite her head off in one go. I dunno.I have no idea who would buy that kind of stuff.
Oh, I have a good idea . which is why I said that bit about imagination. :( Two words--furry porn. Have any idea how hard it is to not think about stuff you had tried to forget seeing when you're blind? Lol Sneaky links with pics that scar you....
Lannister wrote: "I have no idea who would buy that kind of stuff. "Curious people? Dinosaur lovers? Friends of the author?
Would you read it if it were free? I think I would just to see what it's about, I mean we read about all kind of shifters, dragons, faes, angels, vamps...etc...so why not dinosaurs? Maybe if the girl kiss them they turn into a prince like frogs do?
I'm off to finally start to read TtS ^_^

It can be ridiculous living on a college campus (already notorious for radical politics), but it's nearly impossible when everyone fancies themselves as a future president!
