Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments the droid DNA is new, but only through verizon. What provider do you have?

message 852: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments I actually have an old school (ish) Samsung Phone. GTS something. And while I know I need to upgrade I just don't like anything else. Apple is heck-no coz I am a complete PC person. iPod is enough on that account. And the S3 is HUGE. I considered S2 but it just seems okay, nothing that great.

@Jax - LOL. You should definitely make him share :)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I've got an HTC One S, which is nearly a year old now and I like it fine. I quite fancy one of those Google Nexus 4 phones, cos they're really cheap (for a smartphone) and you can get them unlocked. You can get pretty cheap contracts in the UK if you don't need a phone included.

message 854: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I have the HTC thunderbolt now. I don't think Verizon is selling them anymore. I love the phone...but it glitches so often! I'm definitely tired of all of its issues.

The only problem is that I can't think of anything else I'd rather have, which has me leaning towards the iPhone 5

message 855: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Claire - I have friends who have the iPhone 5 and love it. If that helps any? Of course they are also the same people who have a Mac not a PC. So there is that. But I think as long as you use iTunes, it should be fine :)

Speaking of, I really don't like the new iTunes interface, though it is bearable once I got used to it.

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I think I may go with the droid DNA. We'll see what the store says.

And happy Birthday Sarah! (FB told me LOL)

Anna | 1680 comments Reading GRRMartin and thinking power corrupts...watching True Blood 3 and thinking Jason has carried the last 2 series and wishing Bill would die...oh and did you know that if you put all the cows in the world on a set of scales and all the mammals in the world on the other side, the weights would balance out... apparently. :)

message 860: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I've been panicking over the beginning of classes. I'm debating dropping a painting class. I can't have two B's on my transcript in one semester, and my painting teacher was basically like "nearly everyone gets a B." AGH.

message 861: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments I've been watching House MD. The damned thing is addictive, and it makes me paranoid about every ache and pain. Ugh.
I wanna read, I even have more than a few books that I can read and all I do is watch House late into the night! The guy is not even pretty!

@Claire - Profs do love to freak you out. But the main point is, if you can handle that work load or not. Especially since painting will probably take a lot of your time and it is only an elective. (I am assuming since I remember your major being Physics).

My parents are here for a visit so I spend most of my time with them.

message 863: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Claire, I'm with Arushi. Especially since you can't risk it... I'm guessing because of scholarships? I would drop it. I'm also the only person in the world who got C's in art class. lol

message 864: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I have about a month to figure out whether or not to drop it. I've decided that I'm going to talk to the professor after class or something and see what she thinks.

message 865: by Anna (last edited Jan 16, 2013 04:32PM) (new)

Anna | 1680 comments I like Hugh Lawrie but have never watched House. Apparently he wasn't sure whether to sign up and was convinced by his agent it would get dropped after 1 season.

Getting advice sounds good Claire. Interesting combination though.

That sounds like a good plan to me. That way you'll also know if your effort in the class will pay off. Some profs are just jerks who'll never give you good marks, no matter how well you do - especially in something subjective like art. Some profs are actually nice.

@Anna - He will never be Hugh Laurie to me. He will always be the crippled jerk who saved people coz he was too curious not to. But that is a very interesting bit of info.

@Zeenat - Yay!!! Have fun!!!

It's chaos here because it snowed all night. I brought my parents to the station and then there was no tram. I had to wait in the cold. Not funny! :-(

But now I'm at home and can defrost. Hahahaha!

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Ha! And I thought it was only the UK that ground to a halt when there was a snowfall! (Seriously, our trains go off when there's like an inch of snow. This country is a disaster when it comes to dealing with severe weather.)

Hope you are toasty warm now! :)

message 874: by Arushi (last edited Jan 17, 2013 02:56AM) (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Psssht! You're all such pansies!

I think its somewhere below -30 in Saskatoon right now ( I know it went down to -48 with wind chill)... and there is snow all through winter. Lots of snow. The only thing is, after it snowed, I'd call a cab instead of taking the bus :P

message 875: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments OMG!! That's a nightmare! I didn't realise it was so cold where you were, Arushi.

We had unseasonably mild weather through Christmas and early January. It was like 9 or 10C which is extremely mild for us. But in the past few days it's dropped to around 1 or 2C, but it's clear and sunny with no wind so, provided you wrap up, it's really nice to go out in that sort of weather.

I can't wait for Spring though. I hate the cold.

message 876: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Oops. I guess I should have clarified. Saskatoon is in Central Canada where I went to University. So I am really familiar with that brand of cold, and that is what I tend to think of when I think of cold.

But I am in India right now. Where the lowest it went all this winter was -3 and that was a huge deal. No snow period - comes with being in a dry part of the country.

I actually miss snow. Don't hate me :)

message 877: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments LOL, different strokes and all that! It's not snow exactly that I hate. But what usually happens here after it snows is that it freezes and all that nice snow turns to ice and it's absolutely treacherous to walk or drive. I dunno how many times I've fallen on my butt thanks to icy conditions! (I swear, if there's one tiny patch of ice in the whole road, you can bet I'll step on it and slip! It's amazing that I haven't ever broken a bone.)

I think they breed 'em touch in Canada. I would, quite literally, die in those temps!

message 878: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Hahaha.. I dunno if its tough ppl there, or just better snow scrapers and boots that are available. I loved my winter boots and it had not that much to do with their looks, and everything to do with their grip even on icy sidewalks and the fact that at least my feet did not get cold.

I know what you mean though. I like snow, not ice, and really not a fan of the serious cold. Tho I am told (and agree) that it gets better once u pass -15 coz there is no moisture left in the air. Only as long as its not windy tho.

message 879: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Wow, I don't think I've ever been exposed to -15C in my life!! We had two mad winters a couple of years back, where the temp went down to about -10C. I think that was the coldest I've ever known it. It was freaky cold for us!

It's a bizarre fact that central Scotland is the same latitude as Moscow, but compared to them, we have extremely mild winters. All hail the Gulf Stream weather current!!

message 880: by Anna (new)

Anna | 1680 comments Hurrah for the Gulf Stream and snow days for wimpy southerners.

message 881: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments LOL! I suppose I'm a wimpy southerner too. Southern Scotland at least. They get it pretty cold in some parts of the Highlands.

Where in England roughly are you, Anna?

I'm still praying for a major snow (ie enough for the transport people to freak out) so that I as a southern Brit can have an excuse to stay inside and read GoT rather than going out and working :D

message 888: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments It's been raining the past three days here! But we're supposed to get a few inches of snow. It would be awesome, hopefully the motorcades will stop! Inauguration practice is making it impossible to study.

Arushi | 3652 comments Its a case of be careful what you wish for. We're really at a bad place for snow, but we had hail last night. And twice this morning. Apparently last night was so bad that everything looked white, with the ice chunks around the size of chickpeas. sheesh! Now its all cold, wet, gloomy and ugh.

This is supposed to be a desert. Where is that nice winter I was promised damnit!

Life long Canadian here -- I live on the plains -- so when we very rarely get damp & cold together -- it feels worse than really dry & Crazy cold. :) Honestly!
Although this week & a half has been nuts -- 30 degree swings in temp ever few days. Last three days have been +3-5 C (with 4" of heavy wet snow -- ick) & Sunday is forecasted to be -21. oO Last week same thing -- it's like the jet stream is playing dodge ball.

Close -- Hail -- oddly enough wonder which one is appropriate for "Hale -- well met!" or "Hale & Hearty"? English is a weird language. :P

Bedfordshire- low on rain and snow; we have a centimetre or two of snow at the moment. Hoping for more! Not quite enough to tempt me out with a camera. I feel cheated if we have no snow at all in the winter - like we've missed a season. (My uni was Southampton!)

message 900: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments No snow here, I'm delighted to say. I feel the exact opposite from you, Anna. I feel more like I dodged a bullet if I get a winter without snow. :)
