Who doesn't love potatoes?

Welcome Bee - I'm about to enjoy a yummy potato bake :)

Bee (bee12) | 4 comments Haha that probably explains why I am starting to resemble a potato!

message 660: by Megan (last edited Nov 02, 2011 02:26PM) (new)

Megan | 114 comments I don't love potatoes - I barely tolerate potatoes and like them best when they are the most disguised (I like chips, the hot and cold variety) but mashed - meh, boiled urgh - roast - only when there are no other vege choices.

Potatoes are boring.

But then I don't know anyone else who doesn't like potatoes, everyone I know loves them. They think I'm strange and overindulge in mash when I'm not around so they don't have to watch me endlessly push it round my plate.

Mmmmm kumara, pumpkin, parsnip, yams - I love those

You are missing out in life! And given you love pumpkin, parsnip & sweet potato (yams) I am pretty confident people have just been f*@king with your potatoes so far.

When in doubt: add olive oil, lemon juice, garlic yum!

(Oh and steaming kicks butt over boiling for potatoes and most other veggies too...)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 347 comments Michael wrote: "Megan wrote: "I don't love potatoes - I barely tolerate potatoes ...
Sounds about the same as i do with chocalate. Seriously the inventor did a bad thing inventing that abomination. "

Yeah, I'm not into chocolate as a rule... but watched a documentary were they made it pure and you could drink a shot of it and be sustained for the whole day! So I think it's the dilution of the original that is the hard to tolerate variety ;)

message 664: by Megan (last edited Nov 03, 2011 12:57PM) (new)

Megan | 114 comments Yeah there is some hate in the word "boiled potatoes" that is a bit unfounded since all veggies really come steamed rather than boiled, but I think there is no hope. My parents tried for years with not luck - I got to choose how they were cooked each night. Then my flatmates tried - basically by telling me I was weird, then I went to Ireland and finally learnt to pretend when politeness requires it, now everyone has just given up.

I love cooking and I still cook potatoes, some meals just need them, and then everyone else eats them :)

The not liking chocolate thing is strange, but expensive chocolate is so much better than cheap mmmmmm Do you like chocolate cake or milo (not really chocolate) or chocolate ice cream?

message 665: by Graham (new)

Graham (giraham) | 60 comments Wow baked potatoes with gravy are close to the highlight of any roast dinner for me

I also dont eat much chocolate! Maybe 2 mars bars a year (mars bar slice on the other hand...)

message 666: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments How can anyone not like chocolate? The only reason I dont eat a block a day is because its bad for my skin. As soon as I leave my teenage years behind, Im going to gorge myself on chocolate!

And then you'll find it's bad for the hips Jess;D Chocolate is my (main) vice....lol

message 668: by Megan (new)

Megan | 114 comments Supposedly cocoa (along with blueberries) have some awesome thing in it that gives your brain surges of energy - that's my excuse for the ridiculous amount of it I eat.

And mars bar slice sounds dangerous Graham :)

Brenda | 80151 comments Mod
Mars bar slice is sooooooo delicious:) I have a wonderful, very easy recipe;D

message 670: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 347 comments It's suprisingly easy not to be into chocolate or sweets. I recommend have a dentist year where you spend $7K out of pocket on your teeth, then develop a paralysing fear of sugar...

You'll find once you haven't eaten it for a few months you lose the taste for it. Then you will be much more sensitive to sweet and find it in so many other places (but totally overwhelming in say a mars bar).

Oh and cocoa and blueberries are big on antioxidants :)

message 671: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

You’re not the only one Jess. I sat down to watch it last night but didn’t get much past the introductory song! But in its defence I was getting close to the end of reading a book, so was probably too distracted and didn’t give it much of a chance.

message 680: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Dixon | 21 comments My Favourite...
1. Time of Day: Very early in the morning on days off is a good time. Too bad I often like to sleep in as well!

2. Food: Fruit, and peanut butter sandwiches

3. Drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic): Coffee with milk and sugar, tea with no sugar. I only started drinking coffee and tea 2-3 years ago.

4. Band/singer: I don’t know about favourites, it changes all the time. But at the moment my highest play count for a band is A Nation in Siege by the Fureys, and for a singer is Watch Over Me by Bernard Fanning.

5. Actor: Ricky Gervais – He was great in the Office and Extras. I also like the Little Britain boys.

6. Spot in Australia: Home

7. Team/Sport: Geelong Cats (2007,2009,2011) / AFL

8. Car: Shogun Metro - It’s a bicycle! I don’t have a car

9. Animal: Cats and kittens

10. Activity: Running, riding, reading, relaxing

11. Things to collect: Smoothed shell glass from the beach. I haven’t got any for many years, but I remember there used to be lots at Loch Ard Gorge.

Even though I live a lot closer, most games I still just watch on TV or the radio, but every now and then I get to see a game though which is lucky, especially with all the wins lately :)

message 686: by Ber (new)

Ber Carroll | 6 comments My Favourite...
1. Time of Day: Morning, when the kids have gone to school. I make myself a bolstering cup of tea, shut out the mess all around me, and start writing . . .
2. Food: Italian, Indian, Thai, savory, sweet, everything. I constantly think of food, constantly feel hungry, and it seems that I write better on a full tummy . . . really!
3. Drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic): Sauvignon Blanc (I also write better when I've had a drink. I joke that my second novel wouldn't have been written if it weren't for the inspiring effects of Sauv Blanc!)
4. Band/singer: U2, Snow Patrol, Cranberries, The Frames (still very Irish on this front). Also like a bit of Jay-Z and Eminem and I sing along to Adele when I'm in the car (and very loudly too)
5. Actor: Cate Blanchett
6. Spot in Australia: Sydney's Northern Beaches. Even after sixteen years of living here, I'm still in awe of how beautiful it is
7. Team/Sport: I'm a sports fanatic and feel totally bereft when the rugby league season finishes, but happy to substitute with union, soccer and even cricket. During the Commonwealth Games, I spent over an hour watching table tennis before my husband told me to cop on to myself . . .
8. Car: I'm not a car person, much to my aforementioned husband's dismay. If I had to pick, it would be a Merc of some sort.
9. Animal: Is a giraffe an acceptable answer?
10. Activity: My favourite activity involves some multi-tasking: drinking wine, reading, and watching sport all at the same time.
11. Things to collect: Books, of course!

I completely agree :)

I am often thinking about the next meal as soon as I finish the one I'm on, and everything is better with a full tummy and a glass of wine!

message 689: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) 1. Time of Day: Evening when I get in from work and can curl up for a few hours with a good book, especially in winter.

2. Food: Roast Lamb. Because there's no such thing in the Netherlands I haven't had it for nearly two years.

3. Drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic): Diet Coke - I'm known for my saying 'time for a coke and a smoke' at work.

4. Band/singer: Powderfinger

5. Actor: Not big on movies or TV, so I have no idea!

6. Spot in Australia: Hobart wharf, eating fish and chips and watching people go by.

7. Team/Sport: AFL - I've always been a Geelong fan and since I now live in Europe I have to get up at 6am on a Saturday to watch the grand final. And I do :)

8. Car: Anything that goes is good for me!

9. Animal: Elephants

10. Activity: Reading and travelling to different cities and countries nearby - something I wouldn't have gotten the chance to do if I wasn't here

11. Things to collect: Books - I have limited space here so the ones I do have are very special to me.

My hubby is Dutch and he picked Richmond because they have the same colours as NAC (Breda) :D

P.S. presuming you come back here, with the time difference he's sure to return the favour shouting at football/soccor in the middle of the night...

message 696: by Kat (new)

Kat (katzombie) Well I told him that picking Collingwood would result in an automatic failure, but I don't think he completely believed me!

Oh I'll be coming back at the beginning of 2013, but he doesn't follow soccer, so he's got something going for him at least ;)

message 697: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2 comments 1. Time of Day: Early morning, I like the quiet when no-one else is awake yet
2. Food: Potato Pizza
3. Drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic): Green Tea with honey
4. Band/singer: So many, The Script are on right now so let's go with that :)
5. Actor: Constantly changes, today it's Ryan Gosling
6. Spot in Australia: Great Ocean Road
7. Team/Sport: AFL - Bombers, I'm struggling with no friday night football atm but I guess they need a break ;) Also a big tennis fan
8. Car: Mine, it gets me from A to B
9. Animal: Gorillas & Orcas
10. Activity: Travelling, spending time with friends, hiking, curling up on the couch with a good book
11. Things to collect: I like to travel and I buy a shot glass from every city I visit - they're functional, pretty & fit easily in your bag :)
