Thanks Matthew...I didn't realize that as I'd read a copied version:) Here it is: http://archive.is/rFgtE

Brenda I saw that earlier today - poor move on his half .. he has gone and shot himself in the foot with his comments.

He sure has! He's doing the complete opposite - no-one would want to read his work after that sort of response. NO author should respond to a review which is negative...

every book the guy writes now is going to be avoided like the plague.I can't believe his reaction and then his follow up comments - it is ridiculous. I feel bad for the reviewer, no one deserves that crap.

She was very calm initially about his responses until he started to get nasty. I didn't read all of the comments - far too many...but boy!

I can't believe what I'm reading! Who in there right mind would attack anyone like this if for no other reason than it reflect extremely poorly on your 'business'

Exactly! And he's not the only delusional author out there who does this!

message 20509: by [deleted user] (new)

even harry potter has one star reviews and we all know how terribly badly those ended up [sarcasm]

message 20510: by [deleted user] (new)

Brenda - one time I heard of an author that went out and wrote a book basically straight out saying it was about a reviewer - before changing the synopsis of course

Wow! That could create all sorts of legal problems for the author!!

message 20512: by [deleted user] (new)

it is because of these authors that as a personal rule if a book is 1 or 2 stars for me .. I contact the author first and just constructively lay out why I didn't enjoy the book (and what factors I did enjoy).

That is a terrible response - I think her review was not mean or nasty she was quite fair. He was really upset though. I am sure he wasn't happy about one star - that was his baby, his pride and joy. But he is going to get negative comments and as much as it saddens him he shouldn't attack the reviewer.

I have had an author have a go at me over a review and trust me it was a horrible experience but at least it was done off line ( and was 3 stars) I can only imagine how this poor reviewer feels - but I think she responded very well - I personally would have said nothing after the first response to him. Nothing she said was going to appease him.

message 20529: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Just read the archive on what basically could be headlined as Author Gone Feral. Oh boy! Dylan had better come up with a new legal name for himself quick smart, if he ever wants his books read now.

But I did feel bad when people said they'd just marked all his books as a 1 star rating, in response to his meltdown. They should be taken to task about that little matter, that should not be tolerated on GR.

Another member said "Someone else reported that he was offering free copies of his book to people in exchange for 5 star reviews. I'm not sure where it occurred personally, but I believe that is also against the ToS in addition to being morally wrong (coercion and bribery)." Basically, that member is in the wrong here, if you can't back up your claims with facts, then you shouldn't be airing them for the world to see.

I have thought about posting the archive link on chat threads in another couple of groups that I belong to, but have decided I wont. I'm thinking Dylan has probably already ruined his author career. But the thread would have created some lively comments!

Every book gets its bad reviews - in hindsight I bet he's thinking a one bad review isn't looking so bad now [compared to this trainwreck he has created]

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) What an idiot. You don't engage with reviewers regardless of the review they give you.

message 20534: by Carolyn (last edited Jun 08, 2015 07:01PM) (new)

Carolyn | 9868 comments Hopefully he's learned something from this and will think twice before having a nuclear meltdown over a few adverse comments. It wasn't even a very critical review. I'd hate to see how he'd cope if he got a really destructive review.

message 20535: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9868 comments Yeah, it does make you aware that you need to be careful about what you say in a review. You should say if you hate a book and give your reasons but never be abusive or denigrate the author (not that Cait did). The author does need to know what readers think if they're going to improve. I have to say I would never give one star to a new or Indie author when they have worked so hard to write and publish a book.

Often times with an indie If I really couldn't get in with the book I constructively let the author know what I thought didn't work [and I don't post the review].

message 20537: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Capes | 226 comments The guy MAY have mental health issues - he just seemed unable to let it go.

Stupid or unwell, there's no way to know for sure but I've read an interview with him that suggests he's not well.

Poor form in any event and I'd especially hate for reviewers to feel like they can't give an honest opinion, you know?

This interview doesn't add much hope that he's well:

You make a good point Ashley - some of his statements and actions do tend to indicate a mental health issue. In which case, I hope he does himself a favour and gets the help he needs.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9987 comments So this arvo after coming home from shopping, thought I'd quickly water the plants before writing my review. Of course, got a little side tracked looking on GR, but no drama, hubby's cooking tonight. Cept he needs some Philly Cooking cream so off he goes in the car. And Marianne waters downstairs, heads upstairs, loungeroom hmm, what's that smell, guys next door must be BBQing or something. And then I get to the kitchen, oh @%#*&@#, that's the soup bubbling away, what's left of it. DH was so sure he'd turned it off before he left......now we're having my pumpkin soup instead.

I agree about people saying they are only giving him one star because of his attitude - that's not cricket IMHO - if you read the book and don't like it, fair enough - but to give it a one out of spite is wrong!
