B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Hi everyone:) I'm back after ten days in hospital hooked up to a Ketamine drip 24/7. It's a radical treatment for extreme long-term pain. But it feels rather like what I imagine LSD felt like. Looking forward to another ten months pain free!:)

I have lots to catch up on in AR. Great to be back although my brain is still not 100% my own today.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) @Dale. Ketamine saved my life 8 yrs ago and I have it twice a year now. It's so good for my pain and health issues. But being on a long brain 'trip' is exhausting.

Hope the next ten months are much better for you, and that your brain decides that it resides inside your own skull... ;)

I'm confused Michael...which bit is reality, the before or after??

message 15571: by Neko (new)

Neko OH, lovely..I've got a cold for the weekend...I'm "thrilled" about this as you can tell :s

@Michael - I've never thought much of Barbie in general except she had comics out and I used to read those as a child..LOL

I never understood why people get so "hot headed" over Barbie...It's a well known fact she's not real and I think it's up to parents to tell their children the true facts IF they question it.

Besides children may say they want to grow up like Barbie but children can also say they want to grow up like some famous Disney character, etc.

Having a doll that looks like Lammily probably isn't going to sell well.

And if they really wanted to make it "REAL" they wouldn't make it so obvious they are tacked on with stickers which I think is worse..lol

I'm around little children all the time and I don't think they see anything in barbie apart from the fact it's a toy and they can dress it and comb it's hair.

I dont mind it, though the stretchmarks are a bit far there tbh. Interesting they haven't done one for Ken as well though.

message 15575: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 89 comments I always Loved my barbie - and my cousins and I each had one and spent hours dressing and undressing our barbies - but we never wanted to BE barbie.

I'm not sure any little girl does - and barbie is heaps better than the stupid Bratz dolls who have oversized heads.

As for this doll, having cuts and stitches and cellulite - well let's just say I will not be buying my granddaughter to have one.

message 15576: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Sharp (margaretlynettesharp) | 1215 comments I had a couple of Barbies, and one Midge (with bendable legs). But I never saw them in the light of anything approaching role models, or as representing the perfect female form. They were just toys to play with and dress up.

message 15577: by Carolyn (last edited Nov 20, 2014 03:47AM) (new)

Carolyn | 9869 comments My mum (a teacher) wouldn't let me and my sisters have Barbies. Instead we were given some prepubescent doll (similar size with clothes) so we spent all our time at our friends places playing with their Barbies. I think the attraction was that they had grown up clothes and shoes and accessories (and Ken!)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) November 25th is International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women. It's known as White Ribbon Day. For full focus, see link: http://www.unwomen.org/en/news/in-foc...

As friend to a 25yr old woman who was beaten, had bones broken, burned and psychologically battered by her husband, I've seen first hand what damage can happen to women in the home and relationships. A beautiful and strong girl now a shadow of her former self remains.

If you see or sense such violence, speak up.

I too have seen first hand (in my physio job) what the results of violence against women looks like. Thanks for reminding us that it's never acceptable Bette.

Have just finished giving my garden and potplants a good deep drink and filled up all the birdbaths and water dishes in readiness. Now I will get ready to shut myself in with the aircon when it gets too hot.

**Please fill up any dishes or water containers for the birds and other creatures to bathe and drink from in this weather...it gets too hot for them to fly around looking for a water supply. Many of them have babies to mind right now as well. :) even if its on your balcony, every drop helps and they will find it.

Kelly Higgins | 105 comments Was 39 degrees here in Gosford and I had an exam for uni. The best the supervisors could do to cool down the room was turn all the fans on and open the windows because there was no air conditioning. And just make sure we had bottles of water.

Our pet birds aren't liking the heat. We have a spray bottle and a portable fan in the room where they are to keep them cool. Apparently still 31 degrees, bleh.
