I love where I live Brenda but I must admit I spend most of the summer months stressing about the weather and potential fire risk, although I wouldn't change it for the world. I've never been to Newcastle but I know it's beautiful there too and I'm sure you feel the same.

We certainly do...we don't live near the ocean though, and our temperatures are more along the lines of the inland temps...at the moment Newcastle is showing 23, while we are showing up near 40!! They take Newcastle temps next to the ocean O_o!!! But it's a beautiful area, so one day you should visit;) We can have a coffee and catch up:)

Wow...that's hot. It gets like that here too, although the weather has been perfect lately...just right. I would love to come to Newcastle and I will definitely look you up Brenda. I think we'd have loads in common.

It feels delightful living in the new house. :) away from the Nightmare On Elm Street ( the place I previously lived in was not pleasant at all. :-/ )
But I call this place home! Feels good. :) I hope you and your family have a wonderful new year ahead Brenda :)

Oh, don't miss those temps in 40s, Brenda. We had enough of that for years when we lived in Western Sydney. Couldn't go back to it now.

I'd like to say the same Dale;) But we're here to stay....I actually love our area, our neighbours, the surrounds...it's just the summer with the heat and humidity I don't like! The rest of the year is fine;)

There's a MASSIVE tiger snake in my chook yard. It's 30 degrees INSIDE the house. Bush fires burning around the state. Hot and windy. Must be summer. Days like this Macquarie Island starts looking really good...
How's everyone else fairing?
How's everyone else fairing?

38 here in Melbourne, and I also have a tiger snake at the back of the garage, he has removed himself from my front porch...just keep your eyes open for him, terrible about the bush fires, take care they are scary snakes and fires!

38! Tomorrow they say it's going to be 35 here, but the guys baling our paddocks heard it might get to 41. *sigh* Will be very wary of the snake. My son was bitten by one a few years ago. Scariest days of my life. I'm now sending my kids out in gumboots, which doesn't help in this weather.
The fires are to the north of us I think. It's real bush fire weather! The wind is fierce and it's SO dry!
Wishing for a cool change for us all!

Ooh sounds horrible...take care Gina, and anyone else who has bushfire problems, plus snake problems!! I guess the heat is sending them to search for water.
Thanks Brenda. Feeling sweaty and irritable. I think you're right about them seeking water. Also the paddocks up and down our road are all being slashed and baled at the moment. Good to remove the long grass, but I think it also might have driven the snakes closer to the house. I never used to be so paranoid about them, but I had nightmares for a year after T'boy was bitten (he was only four at the time). And I have seriously never seen a snake as big as the one now calling my chook yard his home!
Good luck to all in the bush fire areas! Hoping we get some rain soon too!

46, Missa! Yikes! We are in rural Tasmania. I think I need to go and check on the fire reports, but I think they are well to the north of us. The sky is hazy but I can't smell smoke at all...

I don't envy you the heat nor the tiger snake, Georgina! Take care.
Yes, it's instant fry, isn't it? The UV levels seem to be sky high. They are now saying we are going to have 40 tomorrow too, but it's due to drop down to 24 on Saturday. Roll on weekend!!

Absolutely!
We are supposed to have 36+ tomorrow, so it won't be nice here either..
Gina your bushfires are threatening Richmond...
Did I ever mention I dislike summer!!!

Remember the first time I went outback and learned that heavy boots and trousers rather than shorts were the safest wear against snakes.
Don't envy you your hot weather down south. But it is apparently heading our way. A long, hot summer, it seems.

It's snowing in Texas. The End Days have come. :)

We've been fairly lucky here in Sth East QLD so far, pretty high temps but I have air-con so I can get away from it but going outside is like stepping into an oven.
My uncles, old bushmen all of them, have been saying for months now they believe this will be one of the worst Summers we've seen in a while - according to them the regular weather patterns are resetting themselves. I had so been hoping they were wrong :)
Thanks all, hoping the snake leaves soon too. I think it's living under the old hay bales in the shed. We have to move them out to make way for the new, but we will be doing it very carefully. I hate summer too. So many people say Tasmania is too cold, but it's just right for me.
We've lived with snakes for a long time. You're right, Ian, long trousers and boots are the go, but we aren't bush trekking, it's living with them day to day. Our children learnt how to stomp when they took their first steps. My son has been bitten twice, once by a red belly black (not too poisonous) and the second time by the tiger. He spent three days in the children's intensive care at the Royal Hobart--great hospital, great nurses, great doctors, great ambulance drivers! I owe them all big time, they saved his life.
I'm melting here today! It's insanely hot. :( Just gave the kids ice blocks to cool them down.
I think your uncles are going to be right, Tracey. It's going to be a hot, dry one.
Waiting for the promised cool change to come.
Best to all!

Oh gosh! How terrifying to have your child bitten not once but twice by deadly snakes!!! My s-i-l & b-i-l both live on a farm in southern Victoria...they have many many snakes every summer:(

I most certainly will Brenda :)

Hi I am on the south coast of Victoria, we now have a resident snake, he has moved from the front porch to the back of the garage. I think he can smell our wild frog in the pond. It is a bit scary I must admit, he hissed at me when I didn;t see him on the front porch. Just be really careful. We have 41 here to (temp), very hot, I have been working in a friends shop I think we sold 2000 icecreams!

They get aggressive come mating season in march/april, which is when my son was bitten by the tiger snake. We lived on the mainland a while ago, and had a property we named Froggy Bottom. Snakes love frogs (so do I, but not for eating!). We had snakes every where. Now our property in Tasmania is in a valley, with two huge dams, trillions of frogs, and many, many Gondwana serpents (that's what I call the massive ones). Come summer, we don't even try to walk in some areas, only the slashed, or brush cut paddocks. We also have goats to keep the grass down around the house.
Ice cream! Yumm. Yep, we had forty, but it's starting to cool down now (fractionally). Gah! My poor chooks and ducks were panting all day!

I can well believe it, Brenda! We had to harvest vegetables in the morning (we have an organic farm). We started about 7am, and it was hot then. I didn't put my ducks in their yard until 6pm, as I was worried about their well being. I'm hoping it's our one, extreme day for the year!
