Bec | 12 comments It was a very exciting day for me yesterday.. my long awaited (ok - a week to be exact, BUT if felt like longer) kindle touch arrived! Yahh! My jubilation soon turned to dissapointment though when I realised they had sent me the wrong model Grrrr! I have to send it back & they are going to resend me the correct one. So I guess I'll be sticking with the old paperbacks for another week or 2. Bummer.. I was soo excited to be able to download some books on my TBR list!

message 6052: by Tracey (new)

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments Carmel that was a stunning piece, real heart strings stuff.

Bec I know how frustrating it can be waiting for something you really want but I hope you have a lot of fun when your Kindle Touch does arrive and read loads of fabulous books.

I've been really busy the last couple of days writing. I'm still on track to release the anthology of short stories by the end of June but now I can't wait to get my teeth back into the new novel, The Isles of Dread. It'll be a new series called The Raiders Saga and it's got a huge amount of action, adventure, twists and turns, intrigue and plenty of cliffhanger questions. I love to write :)

I know a number of people who show ability in both Maths and English. My feeling is that this is linked to their individual ability to concentrate and persevere, and their determination to succeed. On the other hand, some people seem to have a gift for the easy grasp of a subject.

You are right Margaret. In France math is used to see if the student has the ability to work very hard and if he is able to grasp new concepts quickly. It's not about math per se in most cases, unless you want to become an engineer.
You need a "baccalauréat" (A level? I know this is the British term, I don't know what it's called in Australia)in science (reinforced math, biology and physics), to be admitted in medecine or, what the French call, a "grande école". A "grande école" (there are several throughout France, but the most sought after are in the Paris area and Lyon) is a prestigous school where you need to sit a difficult entry exam. Studies are engineering or management.

Thanks for your reply, Brigitte!

I think back to my own senior level Maths, and it simply doesn't relate to the life I have led since then. In those days, English and Maths or Science were compulsory. They probably still are! But certainly, passes in tough subjects more than suggest an attitude of tenacity. :)

"I speak Spanish to God, Italian to women, French to men, and predicate logic... to my horse." (pace Charles V). If most people needed competence in advanced maths to survive... well, at least there would be plenty of room for horses to roam around, but it's really just a game that we play with symbols, signifying... well, that we can play games with symbols. :) I've always loved maths, because the truths are never arbitrary: they're just tautologous! :) Still, in theory, once you've got the axioms and the rules of inference, you can derive everything else (the usuals exclusions made per Gödel), and never need to learn another thing! It's great if you're both good with symbols and endogenously lazy. :)

Margaret Sharp (margaretlynettesharp) | 1215 comments Ron and I have spent the last hour and a half putting 'A Taste of Life and Love in Australia' on Kindle. That's my first e-book, but the second in the series. Confusing.:)

Margaret, when you get it onto Kindle, and Amazon has it for sale, can you put a link in your author section for it please? :)

message 6074: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Sharp (margaretlynettesharp) | 1215 comments Hi Brenda,

I'm not quite sure exactly which section you mean.

I assume it'll be on the existing Amazon 'A Taste of Life and Love in Australia' page quite soon.

I appreciate your interest, Brenda.:)

Go to http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_... and click on 'new topic'. Then fill in the box with the information about the book and it being available on kindle at Amazon...Make sure you put a heading like 'A Taste of Life and Love in Australia' now on Kindle!
Then post, and you'll have your own thread in the Author section to advertise your books...

EDIT: Here's the link to the paperback on Amazon now... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1461...

You can also add that to the thread you make in the above link:)

message 6076: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Sharp (margaretlynettesharp) | 1215 comments Thanks, Brenda! I think I've done it!:):)

If and when Ron gets around to putting others on Kindle, should I make a new topic for each title, or continue under that of 'A Taste of Life and Love in Australia'?

message 6090: by Tracey (new)

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments Congratulations on uploading your titles to Kindle Margaret - it opens up a huge new market.

Well done David on your sales at the fair. I was considering doing a similar thing at our medieval fair coming up in mid-July but the stall costs are too high, add that to the cost of postage to bring in the paperbacks and I'd have to make a LOT of money to make it worth my while. Plus I'd rather just go and have fun - it'll actually be my husband's first medieval fair so I'm really hoping he enjoys it.

It looks like I may have to delay the release of the anthology of short stories for a week or two due to some editing issues, also there's one story I'm not happy with and want to rewrite from the beginning - I'll see how things go but I'm not putting huge amounts of pressure on myself.

message 6091: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Sharp (margaretlynettesharp) | 1215 comments Thanks for your congratulations, Tracey!

I hope you can iron out the problems with your anthology without too much stress.:)

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments Good luck Emily - I'll be praying you raise tons of money.

I'm not too worried about the anthology - it'll be a couple of weeks late but that's not a big deal, I'd rather have it right.

We've got some rain again today so the day's not much good for anything else but writing. I should be mopping my floors but not feeling inclined today, my bad :)
