You can't Neil, only a librarian can do it. But I already did it for you earlier today... Peter Brock How Good Is This The Real Story by Wayne Webster

Only a librarian can:)

Neil, for future reference, if you find books without covers, or without data, just go to our librarian thread and one of us will help you out:)

When I add an author or a book title to a comment why has it started putting it at the beginning of my comment instead of at the end. It is a bit irritating!

message 357: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79967 comments Mod
No it's not a glitch, it's something they have been working on for a long time, at the request of many members:) What you do is put your cursor where you want the link to go, and viola! it appears there! It ALWAYS went to the bottom of your review/page/whatever and the request has been for a very long time to have it where you want it, instead of having to cut and paste. So now, all you have to remember is to put your cursor there first, then add it:) Once everyone is used to it, it'll be heaps better!

It's only happened in the last few days, so there might still be a hiccup with it. But each time I've done it, it's gone in the place I've wanted it to:)

I noticed that the other day - it surprised me at first, but I think it's great!! Much better than cutting and pasting!

I totally agree Kathryn!

message 361: by Mish (new)

Mish | 3599 comments Oh They have too :) It's made it so much easier adding the names to the author's list now

message 362: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79967 comments Mod
Much, much, much easier:) And yes, I didn't think of that Mish....that would help you no end!

message 363: by Phrynne, Series Queen! (new)

I had not observed that it went where the cursor was but I will try that now. Thanks everyone.

message 364: by Phrynne, Series Queen! (new)

Phrynne | 15790 comments Mod
No - I tried it and the title still went to the start of the comment not to where the cursor was. What am I doing wrong people?????

message 365: by Phrynne, Series Queen! (new)

Phrynne | 15790 comments Mod
Okay fixed it. You double click the cursor.

Me again.
It only works sometimes. Most times it puts the title at the beginning. I am getting cross.
I am going to bed.

Like I said earlier, it's pretty new so there's likely to be hiccups! I haven't struck any problems but could yet :/

I just had GR put a link at the beginning when my cursor had been at the end, Phrynne. And yet, within the same post, everything else I inserted went where my cursor was at the time - sometimes at the end, sometimes in the body of my typing, so hopefully they are working to get the glitches sorted...

It's weird, I've just been linking a lot and they've gone where I've wanted them every time!

Same for me, it only works sometimes, most of the time no matter where my cursor is, it puts the link at the front.
Not a great improvement to my mind.

message 374: by Phrynne, Series Queen! (new)

Phrynne | 15790 comments Mod
Certainly not an improvement until it works all the time! It was actually better going to the end.

Thanks, Brenda - I just left a comment because I had a lot of links going to the beginning of a post I was typing this morning. I was on an iPad - I don't know whether that makes it worse… I should try typing in my Aussie author challenge now I'm on the computer and see if that's any different...

message 377: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79967 comments Mod
I just noticed your comment Kathryn:) Yes see how you go on the laptop...I only ever use that, so maybe that's why I'm having no problems with it!

message 378: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I was on the laptop yesterday (or the day before, I forget) and having some problems, but not so many as the iPad… I'm replying to Sharon at the moment and linking some books and so far, so good…

I am still having problems so I will try it on Chrome on my lap top later. It should work correctly for everyone though so I hope Goodreads are still looking into it.

Did you read through the thread Phrynne? Do any of the comments associate with the problems you're having?

Just trying things out now. Back in a few minutes.

Okay it works in Chrome but not in Explorer. Which is a bit poor really. I hope Goodreads are still trying to improve it.
Thanks very much Brenda. At least I will be able to post my list for the 2014 challenge without tearing my hair out!

And it works in Firefox which I use:) That was the last comment about it not working in that thread, so hopefully GR staff are looking at it still...

Never mind C.S. we are all the same. We have to learn at some stage, so why not make it easier;)

message 392: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I've lost my little recommendations section (on the right hand side, underneath the "Currently reading section") of my home page - I inadvertently clicked "hide" and it is well and truly hidden now! And while this could turn out to be beneficial for my TBR list, since I would have fewer tempting books based on other books I'd enjoyed or genres I like flashed in my face, I'd still quite like to have it back. Has anyone else done this? I've looked in "My Account" but there isn't much there about customising the home page...

message 393: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79967 comments Mod
I'm not game to do it in case I can't get it back Kathryn! I'd suggest you go to the Feedback group - there's bound to be someone there who can help, even a GR moderator. Good luck:)

No, no, don't do that, Brenda! As I say, it's certainly well-hidden now! There's nothing in the feedback group that I can find, or the help page, but I sent an email, so I'll wait and see... At least it isn't something vital to my use of GR!

Oh dear! When you find out, perhaps you can post it here in bold so others will be able to find it when/if it happens to them! Silly that it hasn't the same as [hide] with [allow] or similar!

I know!! That's what I expected to find somewhere, but it doesn't seem to be obvious! Unless I'm just overlooking the obvious! And I will post my solution - if I get one!

If you need to re-send, address it to Aaron at goodreads support as I've been contacting him when I have problems. He is very prompt and always sets me on the right track.

I've just tested this myself after clicking on "hide". I then cleared cookies and the Recommendations magically reappeared!

OK, that does look helpful, Valerie - I wonder why I couldn't find that!! Now, I just need to work out how to clear my GR cookies or cache...

Thanks, Valerie!!
