you have officially been accepted :D

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Mandy, I suppose it's time for the new to you recs.

1. Since you seem to have a good collection of erotica and books that have a plot, I'll recommend one that has both. Dirty by Megan Hart is a good read. I'm actually surprised you don't have any Megan Hart.

2. Pandora's Star by Peter F. Hamilton The first book of a duology. If you read Dune, I-Robot, and several Heinlein books, you are not scared off by a space story. Make that story more modern, add some aliens, some sex and a cool cast of characters and you have the Commonwealth Saga. I LOVED these two books.

3. Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams you seem to have enjoyed the Hitchhiker's inaccurately named trilogy. Sort of a fun non-space travelling mystery version.

4. Tough one as so many different ways to go. I'll think I'll stick with where my mind generally lurks and go with another erotica recommendation. Still so many to pick from and so little time. How about Voyeur by Lacey Alexander.

*since I gave you an anti-rec, I better give you a bonus rec to make up for the book that you will definitely NOT be reading. Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore is FUNNY. Maybe a bit irreverent if you swing to the fundamentalist camp. However, after spending time in your bookshelves I doubt that. I have given away several copies of this book and keep buying it because I like it that much. Fantastic read!

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Hi Lili,

Thanks for the recs!!! All of them were great, but since I won't be able to read all this month, these are the ones I have chosen to read.

From my TBR:
Lover Eternal by J.R. Ward
Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian.

New:
A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole.
Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James.

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Hi BJ Rose,

I just love love your list, I ended up adding more to my own TBR while looking through yours. I hope you like my recs!!

From your TBR:

1. A Lady of Persuasion by Tessa Dare. - I have not read this book yet, but I read the two before it and a little preview of this book, and I know its going to be a good read.

2. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. By far my favorite of the Austen's book. It is def. a classic and a must read!!

3. The Perfect Lover by Stephanie Laurens. This was the first Stephanie Laurens book that I read and completely fell in love with the author and the book. One of my favs!!

4. The Perfect Bride by Brenda Joyce. I just love the De Warren series and had to include it in this list.

New to you (somewhat) since we have such similar taste in books.

1. Penelope & Prince Charming by Jennifer Ashley. I noticed that you read the author before, but I read this recently and loved the book.

2. Seducing the Heiress by Olivia Drake. Good story, love the hero!

3. One for the Money By Janet Evanovich. I noticed that you read one for the plum series, but this is the first book and it will get you hooked on the series, if nothing else, you want to read just to figure out if Stephanie and Morelli end up together in the end or with Ranger.

4. The Other Boleyn Girl by Philipa Greogry. I noticed that you like historical fiction as well and you didn't seem to have any of Philipa Gregory books on your TBR.

I hope you like the recs!! Happy Reading!!

Leah, thanks for the recs! All of the "new to me" books sound really good. Very hard to choose! I think I will read Under Her Skin since I can get it on pbs.com right away, plus it's set in Texas which is a bonus for this native Dallas gal. :-) Thanks again!

Wow that's a big TBR list, lots of good variety there.

So from your TBR, I'd recommend:

1. Born of Night - just read it for the August Pick It For Me! Challenge and REALLY enjoyed it (once I got through the prologue and first 20 pages or so...then I couldn't put it down, classic SK)

2. Outlander - The characters in this series are really wonderful and both the history and the botany info are mesmerizing. From what I gather, you have enjoyed Anne Rice, Diana's overall style is quite similar (though the subject matter is totally different, of course).

3. The Handmaid's Tale - Strong, horrifying story.

4. The Princess Bride - I love this movie, but I also love the book, which has aspects that are quite different from the movie, but equally intriguing.

New to You:

1. Nightwalker - This is an urban fantasy book (vampires, shifters and uh, some other beings), not really a romance, the characters are very strong, the story unfolds at a breakneck pace and reading the series is worth it to get to book 4, where the story may become a romance.

2. Bad Boys In Kilts - This book contains three hot short stories about 3 of 4 brothers in Scotland, it sets up a stand alone book of the 4th brother. Kauffman's characters are compelling, witty and always an enjoyable read.

3. Vampire Academy - YA vampires, love both the "heroine" and the "hero" of this series. Sassy and yummy respectively.

4. Born in Sin - This is Sherrilyn Kenyon writing as Kinley MacGregor. It's historical fiction and one of my all-time favorite books to read again and again and again. Scots and assassins, a sassy heroine and a dark, but "save-able" hero.

Hope you find something you can enjoy and happy birthday!

Macwolf01 [Elise] (macwolf01) | 1012 comments Hi Elke

3. Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt - I've never read her stuff but saw lots on your list so I picked 1 (HR)
4. The Duke & I by Julia Quinn - I really enjoyed the Bridgerton series (HR)

The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs The Host by Stephenie Meyer The Raven Prince (Princes Trilogy, #1) by Elizabeth Hoyt The Duke And I (Bridgertons, #1) by Julia Quinn

Katherine (kebrand0112) Hi Allison!

From your TBR:
1. Slave to Sensation I really enjoyed this book, and it's the first in the series, which is where I always start. :)
2. One for the Money Another first in series.
3. Angels' Blood I really enjoyed this book, and was thrilled to discover it's sequel.
4. Addicted This is on my TBR too.

New to you:

5.The Rest Falls Away I saw you had a lot of vampire novels so I hesitated to recommend this since it's about a vampire slayer, but it was a good book and the first of five.
6. Jacob
7. Midnight Never Come I saw you had a number of fae novels, and I really enjoyed this one.
8. Alice I Have Been I've been recommending this book to everyone. :D

I hope you can find something worth reading here. If not, please let me know and I will think of some more.

Thanks for the recs, Hina. And I know where I'm going to start: A Lady of Persuasion. This lady has been staring longingly at me from my shelves, but challenge books kept getting in the way - so I've freed her from the shelf and will start this tomorrow!

I like to try to do one TBR & one New-to-Me, but I ended up choosing two from the 'new' list - Penelope & Prince Charming because I absolutely loved The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie - and Seducing the Heiress sounds like it should be a fun read, with the added bonus that I'll have a series to continue if I like this one. Don't know if I'll get both of them read this month, tho.

Nairabell | 433 comments Hi Allison! :)

Thank you so much for the recs! I've decided to read As Lie the Dead as I've been giving it lustful glances since it dropped through my letterbox. I'll check back in once I'm done and let you know what I thought.

message 269: by Nairabell (last edited Aug 31, 2010 12:55PM) (new)

Nairabell | 433 comments Hi Leah *~*Pherocious*~*!

From your TBR:
1. First up - Three Days to Dead. This is a great UF that literally chucks you and the characters in at the deep end. Great fun, and a well defined world set-up without the info dump of a stereotypical 'first' book.

2. Next is Ill Wind, another UF but this one is really unique. Set in a world where 'wardens' are gifted with the power to control earth, fire and weather and Mother Earth really doesn't like us.

3. Another unique book - Soulless. Kind of UF, kind of steampunk, but surprisingly good. I didn't expect much of it, but it really blew me away (probably the chick beating a vamp about the head with her parasol and shrieking 'manners!')

4. Fallen is a great YA paranormal. It's a bit of a love-it-or-hate-it book for most people, but I loved it. Think Twilight but with angels and a gothic feel.

5. Poison Study is a really great fantasy that got me hooked on the genre. I loved the characters and world and ended up going from 'I suppose I could try it' to 'I want all of the series now' by about halfway through.

Three Days to Dead (Dreg City, #1) by Kelly Meding Ill Wind (Weather Warden, #1) by Rachel Caine Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder

New to you:
1. First up, how about Persuasion? I noticed you've read Austen's other books, so why not round out the set?

2. You seem to love the Sookie Stackhouse books, so why not give Charlaine Harris's other series a try. Grave Sight is the first Harper Connelly book about a girl who can experience the final moments of a corpse's life after being struck by lightning.

3. The Hollow is a great YA paranormal that has a really unique take on the Sleepy Hollow legend. It's a little like Shiver in style, but Abby has a really unique hobby making perfumes and each chapter starts with a line from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow which was uber cool.

4. You seem to like Richelle Mead's books, so how about Storm Born? It's a great unique take for a UF with good set up, although I'd really recommend not looking at the blurbs from the later books till you've read this as I did and it changed my opinion of one character.

5. Okay, you might also like Immortal. It's not particularly well known but it's a great YA that has a really gothic feel. It's set in the UK (which is very rare) and has a really well developed storyline but the diary entries from the past are where it really comes into its own.

Persuasion by Jane Austen Grave Sight (Harper Connelly, #1) by Charlaine Harris The Hollow (The Hollow, #1) by Jessica Verday Storm Born (Dark Swan, #1) by Richelle Mead Immortal by Gillian Shields

Okay, I hope there is something there that you'll enjoy. If not, give me a shout and I'll pick some other books for you :)

Deadly Fear - Cynthia Eden - It's awesome. Most unpredictable romantic-suspense novel I've ever read.
Hot in Here - Sophie Renwick - Ah, just brilliant. One of the best contemporary romance novels out there.

And thank you so much, Fran. I think I'll read Shiver-TBR and The Duke and I from New. A Knight to Remember sounds good too.

Ceej (drqangel) | 1015 comments Cindy,

Hi there! I hope all is well. Based on your TBR and Read list, these are the recommendations I have come up with. Happy reading!

TBR
Love Only Once - I could not resist recommending this one. I LOVE the Malorys. Johanna is one of my favorite authors but this series is one of my favorites. I've read all the books at least twice.
Atonement - I saw the movie and have been meaning to read the book so maybe we could read it together lol
Where Are You Now? - You cannot go wrong with Mary
G is for Gumshoe - I read Q is for Quarry some years back and found the style of writing interesting

Recs

Dark Lover - Do you have a fascination for vamps? Then if you haven't started this series, do!! I read this one for FAC in August and I'm hooked.
Dark Seduction - You *might* fall in love with these highland warriors who travel through time.
Riding the Storm - This book gave me a different perspective on storms
Nicholas - The cover on this book got me as I was walking through B&N and the story isn't half bad either lol

message 273: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Melanie - wipes her brow...ok, I survived your TBR pile...i only made it through three pages and had my list of recommended reads for you...lol!!

TBR
The Girl Who Chased the Moon - i loved this book, as well as her other ones
Wild Heat - wildfire firefighers...what more can be said...lol! this is the first in the series, so its a bit weak, but still a good read
First Comes Marriage - the weakest of the series, but still a good read and I saw you had all 5 on your TBR
The Unsung Hero - the first in Brockmann's Troubleshooter's series while there were still lots of SEALS...if you don't mind reading out of order, I would also recommend All Through the Night: A Troubleshooter Christmas which is a novella where my favorite FBI agent Jules gets his HEA
Trouble Comes in Threes - wolf-shape-shifter triplets...need I say more?

New
Goddess of the Rose - I was actually recommended this one in the August Pick It for Me and really enjoyed it, a mythology based, beauty and the beast
The Persimmon Tree - you should be able to get this from BD even though he is hard to find in the US - but a love story set during WW2 in the pacific - and a nice long read...
Pieces of Sky - I have this in my TBR pile for a challenge this month, but have heard awesome things about it
Countess of Scandal - another debut author (although she also writes under another name) who is getting good reviews!

hopefully there is something here that interests you...if not, i'll brave your TBR again!

Mandapanda Hi Photojim,
FABULOUS recommendations! For some reason, (well actually I know why but it's a long story) the books that really appeal this month are not the eroticas but the others. I will definitely be reading Sin Undone. It just magically downloaded itself onto my brand new baby kindle. I will also read the Hunger Games because it's still left over from my August challenge! I am also looking forward to Pandora's Star and Lamb the gospel according to Biff (because a very religious girl at work has been annoying me and I want to read it in front of her!)

P.S Unearthed is now removed from my TBR!

message 283: by Britta (new)

Britta (macdeath) Hiya Buggy!
I guess it's rec time :3 Sorry I'm almost late! (:

TBR

Okay.. I didn't find too many books on your TBR list that I've read, or I'm planning to read.. :S Yikes..

1. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.. This was an.. interesting book :D I can't say that I've read the original - though I'm planning to - but I dare say that the zombies made it much more interesting :3

2. Stolen. I've read two Kelley Armstrong books, and I think she's rather fantastic, so I recommend that you read this as well! (:

3. Dracula. xD.. I've never read it myself, but I've been planning to for ages, so.. read it! (:

4. Hmm.... oh! Mockingjay!.. Neh.. That feels like cheating, seeing as you've already read the first two :P Hold oon..
Beyond Exile: Day by Day Armageddon! That looked interesting, and quite frankly rather awesome, so read it! (: (Everything's better with zombies!)

New

1. City of Bones - It's the first book of a series.. There have been three books released so far, and it was just announced that there will be 3 more!
It's an amazing series, and I'm recommending it to everyone right now :D
There's also a prequel series. The first book, Clockwork Angel, came out yesterday! I haven't gotten a hold of it, sadly, but I suggest you read this as well!

2. Darren Shan's books. All of them. Seriously :P He's definitely one of my favorite authors. He writes horror books.. If you like vampire books then try reading A Living Nightmare. It's a long series, but the books are all relatively thin. It's not a vampire romance book though. Just vampires. (That's what makes it better :D)
He also has another series - the Demonata series. The first book is Lord Loss. This series is a bit gorier than the Darren Shan saga, so if you don't like gore then .. yea. But still :3

3. I see that you also don't have any of Terry Pratchett's books on your shelves. He writes comedic fantasy.. I say you should give it a try C: His Discworld series is a good 30 or so books long, but you don't have to read them all, or read them in order. The first one is The Colour of Magic, so I suggest you start with that, but these books are written so it's really easy to slip in anywhere, so it's your choice!

4. Your book taste seems rather varied, so I'm gonna suggest a romance(ish) book as well. The Princess and the Captain. I was lucky enough to get it at a book sale at my school, and I fell in love with it (: I should read it again some day..

There you go! C:

Vampire Academy or The Hunger Games. That depends on how long is the list at the library.

On the other hand, I've also requested The Thirteenth Tale as back up and this one is on its way.

Hi Mandy! Thanks for the recs they're great. I haven't been able to make a decision yet, but I've narrowed it down to 3 choices: Last Dragon Standing (this book is such a given for me I feel a little guilty using it), Heaven, Texas and Absolutely, Positively. I'll let you know which one (or 3) I choose.

Thanks again!
p.s. I don't know why I didn't have Pleasure Unbound on my list. I read it a while ago and really enjoyed it. That was a very good choice on your part.

Ditto. I'm planning on using mine for the Reader's Choice category. I sure hope to actually get to choose.
