Gwendolyn (drgwen) | 26 comments Hi Jodi;

Thanks for the invitation. You can find my profile and some of my writing here.

I write primarily, but not exclusively for middle-grade and young-adult audiences.

What I write is mostly fantasy fiction, but all of them are stories about growing up and coming to terms with issues such as becoming who you want to be instead of who you were 'destined' to be.

... Or alternately...

- running away from destiny only to have to face it, accept it, and either let it take you over or make it your own.

- coming to terms with who and what you are and not who those in the world around you think you to be.

message 13: by Gwendolyn (new)

Gwendolyn (drgwen) | 26 comments Hi, Jodi.

Not weird... simply a poor choice, so fair warning.

I will, at the least provocation, 'turn-a-phrase' in order to make a point, elicit laughter or whatever emotion (short of anger) I can invoke.

In children's literature, we strive to use words in a way that evokes a response.

Humour can be invoked in many ways. It might be via the description of an absurd visual image, the use of a bad pun, or in this case... by taking advantage of your choice of words.

At any rate, thanks ( ...purposely leaving myself wide open ) for having me.

See? I have been had :)

I hope to make a positive contribution (beside the occasional joke or random pot-shot) to the group.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Joy E. Rancatore (joyerancatore) | 9 comments Hello Everyone!
I'm a writer in the process of taking my children's books from the idea and writing stages to the publication stage. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have a bunch of ideas--some written on paper, some still in my heart. All needing various levels of rewriting and tweaking. Since I am very close to submission quality on a few, I am trying to determine who to contact, where to look, etc!

Thanks for this group. I'm looking forward to getting to "know" some of you!

Angelene Lawson | 2 comments My name is Angelene. I am a speech and language pathologist who is crazy about books and loves to read. I read everything from teen fiction to historical fiction. I have two sons (8 and 3). I have written short stories in the past. My eight year old loves to write. He and I write stories together also. My husband and I just opened an online childrens bookstore called My Child's Bookshelf.

Sam (lit-brit) Hi Everyone,

My name is Samantha, I have been writing Children's Books for many, many years but that is where it has ended. I am currently writing a Middle Grade fiction. I would love to have some of my work published, I guess I have to actively send out queries for that to happen huh?

Anyway, I live in Denver with my hubby, 2 year old daughter and German Shepherd. And any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

message 17: by Scott (new)

Scott Nicol (drjimwriter) | 1 comments Hi. My name is Scott. I am a newly published author of a new series of children's books about a young country vet who can 'hear' the ills of his animal patients with the help of his special stethoscope. These stories are written in rhyme and have wonderful illustrations.

The first book is "Dr. Jim & the Special Stethoscope". The second, "Dr. Jim & the Polestock Pest", is being released this fall but can be purchased through the publisher at www.creativehousepress.com.

Thanks! I look forward to reading all of these amazing stories!

Carla and Leo (CarlaandLeo) | 3 comments Carla and Leo's World of Dance
Hello, all. My name is Agatha and my first children's book comes out on June 1. Carla and Leo's World of Dance tells the story of a magical dance school where two 10-year-old kids travel the world learning ballroom dance. I'm excited to join this group -- to get to know some fellow authors and also share tips on getting books to readers.
Thanks and I look forward to getting to know you all better!
~Agatha

Chad Pio (rivalreader) | 7 comments Hello and happy to be here.
I'm not sure if and where my book series fits in, but thought this was a good place to start. I've created some sports-themed books for kids that include specific text & illustrations for adult fans (and book buyers) as well. More sporting novelty than typical children's literature (comparing it to the wonderful examples I've seen from this group), but they are books just the same. Three books out featuring local teams so far--more national markets hopefully in the future.

Hello, everyone. Thank you for letting me join you.
I'm a little nervous to post a comment here because I'm not an author or an illustrator.
But I love reading children's books.
I'm a native speaker of Japanese living in Tokyo, and I'm a learner of English. Children's books are good for me to improve my English.
Children's books are not only for children, I think. Here in Japan, great children's books are curing grown-ups' heart too, which got damaged by the big earthquake and tsunami on March 11.
I hope I could make myself understood. If I did something wrong, please let me know.
Thank you.

Welcome to the group! It took me ten years to see my dream of becoming published become a reality. Advice to begin-definitely research publishers before sending queries. I relied a lot on the writers market- a great tool for beginning steps to publishing. Make a schedule to where you allow time to write and submit-self motivation is key. Also-don't give up. Rejection will happen but over owing rejection is vital. I am happy to answer any questions you have:)

Or perhaps you just like children's literature?

I'm curious because this is a children's author & illustrators group.

Jacquitta McManus (jmcmanus) | 3 comments Hi Everyone,

I'm JMcManus and I started writing children stories years ago, it came out of a desire to create characters I felt my daughter could relate to. From a desire to create stories that would excite her imagination when she laid in bed at night.

It also comes from a desire to do something that I truly love ... and that is to create new worlds, new people and new stories.

This lead me to start Worlds To Discover where I published where my first MagBook, Labyrinth's Door - Anyia "Dream of a Warrior". I'm currently in the process of publishing Talee and the Fallen Object: Coloring Book Adventure and Talee and the Fallen Object (ebook chapter book edition).

I'm having so much fun creating the worlds and working on the artwork with illustrators. I think the greatest thing is to bring the characters to life through illustration.

I'm looking forward to to working on some new stories and returning to continue the adventures for Anyia and Talee.

Labyrinth's Door - Anyia "Dream of a Warrior" (No. 1) by Jacquitta A. McManus
Labyrinth's Door - Anyia "Dream of a Warrior"

Labyrinth's Door is a place where enchantment reigns and boredom knows no friend. Conceptualized as an unforgettable adventure from start to finish, each issue of the tween fantasy/adventure MagBook will contain:

* a fantasy/adventure story
* puzzles
* how to draw fantasy art

The first edition of Labyrinth's Door is a story of a young girl, Anyia, whose dream of becoming a Nagoran Warrior is infused with adventure and danger. Running from her duties as a Yora, she dares to break tradition to follow her own dream, during a time when Empress Zarina threatens the magic treaty that protects her village.

Talee and the Fallen Object Coloring Book Adventure by Jacquitta A. McManus Talee and the Fallen Object by Jacquitta A. McManus
Talee and the Fallen Object Coloring Book Adventure

Talee and the Fallen Object is a story about Talee, a girl who lives on the gas planet Gala has her curiosity piqued when she sees an object fall from the backpack of a mail flyer and journeys out to see what it is.
