No problem doing that! McCammon's a great writer and one of my all-time favorites. I sing his praises to any who listen to me..

From my partner - nice to have people around you that pay attention. :)

I have to admit, going back to the start I can see why McCammon talks about developing as a writer. When I first read McCammon it was Stinger, Boy's Life, Swan Song and Wolf's Hour. They were all awesome. So when I went back and read Baal, Bethany's Sin etc.. I still enjoyed the books, but they didn't have quite the same impact. I really enjoyed Usher's Passing though.

I'm just so glad that books are coming out again. Horror, non-genre coming-of-age masterpieces, historical fiction, recipe books. I'll give them all a go despite any leanings I have.

message 310: by Chris (new)

Chris (flahorrorwriter) | 2844 comments Started Baal yesterday and you can see how his writing and developed has changed (obviously)...but this is his first novel, and still grabbed me from page one.

Todd,
Thanks for the heads-up on this deal. Even though I've read Boy's Life (and have dozens of books on my TBR list), I couldn't pass up the opportunity to put it on my ereader and read it again soon.

I noticed today (8/24/12) that two of the Corbett series books are on sale at Amazon for $2.99 (Kindle):

The Providence Rider (book 4 -- the newest one)
http://www.amazon.com/The-Providence-...

Mister Slaughter (book 3)
http://www.amazon.com/Mister-Slaughte...

I already have the Pocket paperback books for Speaks The Nightbird. The only one I don't have yet in any format is The Queen of Bedlam (book 2)

Todd Russell (toddrussell) | 118 comments Nice catch, Charlene. I much prefer the newer covers like the one for Bethany's Sin and old Pocket Books covers (and original publisher covers) to the current generic ebook covers for McCammon's backlist. I realize the cover can be changed using programs like Calibre, but it's a shame the publishers couldn't come up with something more artistic than the title and author's name for these.

message 320: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments I agree. : )

Hunter (goathunter) | 75 comments THE FIVE and BAAL are also on sale for $2.99....

I was really disappointed with the Open Road Media covers, too. They were going for thumbnail images that would stand out, but they just ended up looking cheap.

Todd Russell (toddrussell) | 118 comments Wow, very nice! It's a great time to snag some inexpensive McCammon books :)

Caleb Blake (caleb72) | 43 comments Thanks for the heads-up. Just purchased The Five and The Providence Rider.

I think that has me up-to-date. Again, I own all the novels he's published. :)

Does anyone occasionally feel guilty for snapping up the works of one of their favourite authors for a bargain price?

I keep telling myself, if I like McCammon so much why do I always wait until his books are on special before I purchase?

message 324: by Fire and Read (new)

Fire and Read (rhaegal18) | 2 comments McCammon rules! Swan Song, Stinger, The Wolf's Hour & Mine are my favorites.

message 325: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments I don't feel bad. We're still supporting him. Plus he has some new ones coming down the pike.

message 329: by Bob (new)

Bob (ilovepie) | 158 comments Last week I went to the annual book sale at my local library and was lucky to find paperback copies of Wolf's Hour, Stinger and Blue World for a quarter a piece.

message 330: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments That's a nice buy, Bob!

I'm currently reading Bethany's Sinand I'm enjoying the heck out of it. : )

message 331: by Kim (new)

Kim Peek | 4 comments I love McCammon, his old stuff and his new. My favorite is Swan Song, which I have read twice now and will read again.

message 332: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments I finished Bethany's Sin and thought it was good. I have read Swan Song twice now and it was just as good the second time as it was the first.
I think my favorite though, would have to be Boy's Life.

TJ (coachtim30) | 41 comments What's the group's verdict on The Hunter from the Woods by Robert R. McCammon ?

message 334: by David (new)

David jones | 38 comments I haven't read any of his books, but I am most likely going to start reading Swan Song soon. I have heard great things about it, and I absolutely love post apocalyptic settings in books.

message 335: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments I bought that one TJ, but haven't been able to read it yet. I've been told by others that it's excellent!

message 336: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Moyer (catwoman56) | 81 comments I loved it TJ ~ If you've read Wolf's Hour it fills in all the gaps. If you haven't read Wolf's Hour it's a good stand alone selection of stories ~ but I of course absolutely recommend that you read Wolf's Hour

Thanks, Joanne. I really enjoyed Wolf's Hour, so I'll definitely pick up a copy of Hunter From the Woods.

message 340: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan (voodoo-spooky) | 19 comments Anyone know where I might be able to find a hardcover of Swan Song? I prefer the price at least be slightly less than one testicle.

message 341: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments I read the story and it made me cry. I loved it.
Thanks Mr McCammon! And you, Hunter!

message 342: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments I have been a fan since then as well, Michael.
Even though the new series featuring Matthew Corbett is not horror, I'm enjoying the hell out of them too.

message 343: by Jared (new)

Jared Sandman | 4 comments I'm a big fan of McCammon, the only author whose entire backlist is on my bookshelf. I haven't read all of his novels, mostly because I like to parse them out and savor them. I think the best news to come out of publishing in the past decade is the fact he's actively writing again. Rick's simply too good to let his talent languish.

message 344: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments Absolutely, Jared! Well said. : )

Carl I. | 608 comments "Murmur" is the only good REM album, IMO. But that one is absolutely brilliant.

I met Axl Rose just as GnR was getting big. He was nice. We complimented each other's choice of shirts.

TJ (coachtim30) | 41 comments Gatorman wrote: "Boy's Life was amazing."
I just finished it myself (for the 2nd time - last time was 18 years ago or so) and loved every page. As an old guy, I really related to all of the references to products, family practices, and life-in-general in the '60s. 5 Stars!

message 348: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments I'm glad that you enjoyed it, TJ! Wasn't it almost magical? : )

message 349: by TJ (new)

TJ (coachtim30) | 41 comments Charlene wrote: "I'm glad that you enjoyed it, TJ! Wasn't it almost magical? : )"

It certainly was, Charlene. McCammon is a great storyteller and "Boy's Life" inspired me to go back and reread his earlier stuff. I read "Goin' South" and "They Thirst" many years ago, but have added them to my TBR list for 2013.

message 350: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments Those are two that I haven't read in years.
I think I will try to re-read them as well. : )
