Char | 17469 comments I loved that one, Kyle! Have you read the collection of stories about Michael Gallatin from The Wolf's Hour?
The Hunter from the Woods gives a bit more of what happened to Michael when he was with the pack.

Char | 17469 comments I guarantee you will enjoy it, once you get around to it! :)

SWEET!

My paperback copy exploded.

message 455: by Caleb (new)

Caleb Blake (caleb72) | 43 comments Cool @ They Thirst. In my slow tour of all McCammon's works I skipped this one because I thought I read it a couple of decades ago. However, now I'm not so sure - so I was thinking of picking this one up next.

I have the paperback on my shelves so availability isn't an issue, but an ebook version would be better for me.

message 456: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Moyer (catwoman56) | 81 comments depending on what edition of Nightbird you have it might be in two volumes. I have two paperbacks, Volume I and Volume II

message 457: by Hunter (new)

Hunter (goathunter) | 75 comments Yes, Pocket stupidly split Speaks the Nightbird into two volumes when they published the paperback. They claimed the book was too big to publish as one mass-market paperback, but I think the truth is they wanted to make more money by selling twice as many books. Anyway, it has settled down some now, but for years I received email from confused people who wanted to know why volume 2 was the second half of the hardcover they'd read and not a sequel....

David Sakmyster | 2 comments I'm psyched to have just found out I got in a private coffee/chat with McCammon at the Stoker convention in New Orleans in June! One of my favorite authors ever, and someone who got me started writing. Can't wait to meet him (and I better finish Providence Rider first)

message 460: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments Bragger! Well not really, I'm just insanely jealous!

I just picked up McCammon's new one yesterday-I Travel by Night.

message 461: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments It's nice to see the joyous anticipation people have for meeting their favorite authors. For the most part I am nervous as hell of meeting my idols, and only met McCammon because he was coming to speak at my library. I bowed out of meeting Scott Sigler, whom my husband met without me. Sigler even asked him to sit next to him when he walked into the restaurant they were meeting at. I am the biggest fucking chicken in the universe.

message 462: by David (new)

David Sakmyster | 2 comments ...I just hope I don't spill coffee on him like when I met Peter Straub at a convention a few years ago (except that was whiskey, and fortunately not a full glass!)

message 463: by Hunter (new)

Hunter (goathunter) | 75 comments At this time, I plan to be at the WHC/Stoker weekend, too. I'm not sure if I'll be there in time for for kaffeeklatsch or not. I didn't sign up, so there may not be room anyway! 8-)

I've always wanted to meet an author.

message 465: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I'm always afraid an author will be an arse and I'll have to not read him/her anymore. Which I will do even if it kills me.

message 466: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 12043 comments Mod
I never even considered that.

message 467: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I am sure the odds are low that an author at a signing would act like a jerk, but it's happened somewhere in the world, lol.

Jon Recluse | 12043 comments Mod
I figure that any author that would show up around where I live would be really nice. Or really lost and grateful for directions.

message 469: by Bill (new)

Bill | 0 comments The new book in the Matthew Corbett series has been sent to the publishers. It!s titled "The River of Fools"! After some rewrites should be out in spring of 2014.

message 470: by Hunter (new)

Hunter (goathunter) | 75 comments The next book in the Matthew Corbett series is entitled The River of Souls, and yes, it'll probably be out in early 2014.

Troy Palmer | 12 comments I'm a huge McCammon fan also I have read all of his early stuff.

The Wolf's Hour and Swan Song are my favorites. I'm looking forward to reading The Hunter From The Woods also.

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 7707 comments Mod
I can't remember if I've read Wolf's Hour......it's possible I did years ago, but I'm doubting it, since I ended up buying most of McCammon's paperbacks to add to my bookshelves. Hmmm.

message 475: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments Kimberly, you would remember Michael Gallatin if you did. Tall and dark with green green eyes. MMM MMM

I LOVED The Wolf's Hour AND The Hunter From the Woods. Troy, if you liked Hour, you are going to enjoy Hunter for sure. It covers some of that missing time from when Michael was with the pack. :)

message 476: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I was just thinking I wish I had my new McCammon and Hill books already!

message 477: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments You saw this one right? I Travel by Night.
I'm dying for the Joe Hill book too. I won't usually buy them when they're first released, but I keep telling myself it costs less than 2 packs of cigarettes. Not surprisingly, that works for me. :)

message 478: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Yes, I pre-ordered both of the books. I normally don't buy on first release (or try to borrow them later), but I will always support McCammon and Hill and will pay for e-books of authors I love. I've tried them out for free, and I want to make sure I support them from here on out. (Or as long as they keep entertaining me.)

message 479: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments The one I listed above is out now.
What one do you have pre-ordered? Off to Amazon to look.

message 480: by Hunter (new)

Hunter (goathunter) | 75 comments If she ordered the limited edition of I Travel by Night, she won't have it yet. Those won't ship for another six or seven weeks, as they're waiting for slipcases.

message 484: by Eric (last edited Apr 17, 2013 04:08PM) (new)

Eric | 30 comments All the Corbett series books are great. Mr Slaughter seemed to rush by like a mere interlude, but the series isn't to be missed. Swan Song and Boys Life are classics. They Thirst was very enjoyable, if not a tad formulaic. I haven't read all his older books (Mine, Stinger, Wolfs Hour, Bethany's Sin are in queue) but there have only been only two of his I couldn't finish: The Five, and Ushers Passing.

message 485: by Char (new)

Char | 17469 comments Oh, thanks Hunter! You know I'm so used to buying Kindle books now I don't even think about paper books anymore. :)

Caleb Blake (caleb72) | 43 comments Charlene wrote: "Oh, thanks Hunter! You know I'm so used to buying Kindle books now I don't even think about paper books anymore. :)"

Ich auch. However, I still haven't made up my mind whether I'm going to buy all of McCammon's later novels after Speaks the Nightbird in paperback just so that I can have the complete collection in my bookshelves.

message 487: by Hunter (new)

Hunter (goathunter) | 75 comments Note that there is no paperback publisher yet for everything Subterranean Press has published. THE FIVE is supposed to be published in paperback in December, but that's the only one at this time. Of course, we hope that changes, but for now, there are no plans for paperbacks of MISTER SLAUGHTER, THE PROVIDENCE RIDER, THE HUNTER FROM THE WOODS, and I TRAVEL BY NIGHT. 8-(

Hi Joanne! How far are you into Usher's Passing? I just got to the 25%.

message 492: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments How are you enjoying Usher's Passing, Kimberly?

message 493: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 7707 comments Mod
That's an easy one to answer since it's McCammon--loving it! The best part is that I first read it so long ago, that I honestly can't remember anything about it, other than the fact that I liked it so much that I saved it on the "favorites' shelf for years! I have got to do more "buddy reads" of his books. I'm thinking STINGER next......

message 494: by Hunter (new)

Hunter (goathunter) | 75 comments The ebook editions of Robert McCammon's short story collection Blue World are on sale in North America as part of Short Story Month. The books are $3.49 and $3.99, depending on the e-store. You can find links on the McCammon site.

Oh Jason, you should have said so earlier! We're doing a "buddy read" on that one right now..
But we could all be down with STINGER, too!

No, unfortunately, I still don't have an ETA on that. As soon as I do, I'll let you all know.
