Thanks Paul. I think I should. I actually bought The Host (The Host, #1) by Stephenie Meyer when it came out (back in 08') but I totally forgot about it until I re-organized my bookshelf/book collection a little while ago and found it and I really do want to read it.

Trina | 3 comments So I finally finished By Midnight A Ravenwood Mystery by Mia James . It's only taken me 3weeks. It wasn't until after about 200 pages it started picking up. I can finally start The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa .

message 4906: by Alison (new)

Alison | 234 comments Good lord, I go away for a day and there are 3 pages of convo I missed. Sorry guys, got to tell you it's tax time and I'm gonna be a bit sporadic over the next couple months, but I've not gone anywhere.

Need to respond to a couple of people:

Stacia - Fantastic news about agent, I'm keeping fingers and toes crossed for you, please let me know what happens. PS. you're most welcome for the kick in butt :-) us authors have to bolster/support each other.

Jen - I loved Host. Read it when it first came out and was completely hooked from page one. Ms. Meyer is an amazing story teller. I was glad I had it on my kindle though coz it's a huge book and I was reading it on my travels back home. Gotta love Kindle :-)

Okay, so hi and see ya, to everyone. I'll try and keep up but tend to get a bit swamped at this time of year.

Isamlq @stacia, cool!
and yes, yummy indeed.. I have the third Hathaways lined up for Thursday.. :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I didn't think I would like Poppy's story as much and I really enjoyed that one! I love how she meets her man. Gotta love ferrets running wild.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Brit, go over to Delirity and read Heather's comment about what she said to her student about V'lane. It's in the how is that sexy? topic.

That's really great to hear Alison :) I'm excited about reading it because I've only heard great things about this book. Oh yea i can imagine that kindle is super handy when traveling and wanting to read! Haha, yea that's what I was noticing about my copy of The Host (I have the hardcover version) and indeed - it is huge.

I second what Britnee said - YAY!!!!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Third! YAY!!!

I know I've said this a few times before, but if it takes a little bit to get into the book, keep with it. The series gets SO much better with each book.

It's unreal how good books 3 through 5 are. Especially number 5.

Alison | 234 comments Hey Carina, you'll never guess what I just read. I get the GalleyCat blog to my e-mail and apparently there is a "phrase counter" you can get online to count how many times you use the same phrase throughout the manuscript. How cool is that? They used Sarah Palin's essay as an example. I'll give it a go when I have a few minutes. At the mo my eyes are all googly (got taxes coming out my ears).

Sorry for the totally off conversation ramble... as you were.

I'm going for a well deserved shower and let the water run over my face for half an hour :-)

Ha! Thats soo cool Ali!
I was actually noticing some repetition on the Night Huntress books that Im reading. So I guess you were totally right when you said each author has a phrase they like to repeat throu out the whole book!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Starting my re-read of NH tonight! I need a refresh, especially since I only skimmed book 4 tbh (was right before Christmas iirc so I wasn't really paying attention).

Go go Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Isa,

I was in another group and saw the mention of "Qhuay" and it made smile and think of you.

@Artemis, Fever series=awesome

@Stacia, I really wish I could go over NH but right now Im on a depressing book kick. Anyhoot: Bones, YAY!!! and as to Qhuay, they need a book of their own. :)

Im reading If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman now (to be followed by Before I Die and Before I Fall)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Yes. They need their own book. I saw Timipre is reading Rehv's book. I'm having BDB withdrawal for some reason and want another book. March seems like a long way off. Ward wrote another series, the fallen angels one, but I keep hearing it's not as good as BDB, so I'm hesitant to read it. Maybe I'll start Midnight Breed soon, since Alison says it's very similar.

Depressing, huh? Lmao. Next week I'm going to start in on the dystopians.

You heard right.. I started the first Fallen Angels book right after JM (and had to put it on hold because it didnt have the same umph to it.) BUT if Midnight Breed is anything like BDB, I have to give it a go.

Yup, depressing YA's. My sister calls them "YA realistic fiction" (but really they are just a bit depressing AND still make you think.)

Catherine (cattymccat) | 754 comments I just finished Beautiful Darkness (4 out of 5 stars... I wanted to give it 5, but decided it wasn't a favorite favorite... Whatever that means. lol) & have now started Firelight. I'm hoping it's good & a pretty quick read... I'm behind because for some reason it took me forever to read Beautiful Darkness... Wish me luck. Has anyone else read it & if so, what are your thoughts?

Firelight (Firelight, #1) by Sophie Jordan

message 4934: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Feb 09, 2011 10:48PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Firelight is not as heavy of a read as BD, so it might go quicker for you.

I liked it, but I was kinder to it than a lot of people seem to be. I went into it expecting a cute love story and not much more, so it met those expectations.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Gave it a GR rating of 4, but felt it to be a 3.5 rating. Here's my review because this will probably make more sense :

3.5 stars. I'm rounding up because the things that bothered me weren't enough to knock my rating down to a 3.

Firelight ranks right alongside a basic fairytale retelling. It's a simple and cute story about love and the struggles that go along with it, but there isn't much new or unusual here. We've seen much of the premise in other recent popular fiction, but the addition of dragons and dragon hunters made the story fun and fresh.

I recommend this book for fans of 'true love' or 'soulmates' type fiction. If you're looking for non-stop action, in depth plotlines, or strong female protags, this probably isn't going to be your thing. Taking the book for what it was, I enjoyed it. If I wanted to read something more in depth, there are plenty of other books on my shelf that will fit the bill.

Thanks Stacia. That really helped... Nice review. I wish I was better at writing reviews. When I really put my heart in it, I think I do ok. Like my review of The Lipstick Laws, I enjoyed that review & it shows. But usually when I'm writing a review I'm in such a hurry to get it out of me & start a new book that I rush through it. Oh well. Thanks again!

By the way Stacia... Where do you find the pictures you use as avatars? Just from random places or are there any certain places you go? Just curious. :) I love them all.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) No place specific. There's a couple of European forums and file sharing sites that I frequent and they always seem to have great fan art up that I'll copy to my desktop.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Just finished :

The Golden Spiral (Hourglass Door Trilogy, #2) by Lisa Mangum

Second book in the Hourglass Door trilogy. I liked this one as much as the first, even though it was completely different. The first was a cute love story, the time travel/river of time thing almost being in the background while the girl and guy fell in love while working on a school play together and hanging out at a nightclub, etc.

The second book was a bit darker as their enemy stalked the girl lead, and the hero was stuck in a dark void for most of the book. I liked the added suspense, and was okay with there being a little less in regard to the love story, since when they finally came back together it was a sweet reunion. I really liked the villain in this book. Am I supposed to have a crush on the villain?

About to start : Pretties (Uglies, #2) by Scott Westerfeld Succubus Dreams (Georgina Kincaid, #3) by Richelle Mead

Alison | 234 comments Rebecca, I LOVED Katie MacAlister's Aisling Grey series those were top notch :-) Also Love her Dark One series those are really cool too.

Stacia & Isa, Please give Midnight Breed Series a go. You will not be disappointed. If you like BDB you will have no choice than to enjoy MBS.

I have to say now that I am reading BDB I do slightly prefer Lara Adrian's Voice to JR Ward's voice. But Lordy the premise is almost identical, just a different location and foe. I am really enjoying Dark Lover so the fact that they are so similar isn't putting me off one bit.
