Isamlq Im done with Blood Red Road (Dustlands, #1) by Moira Young which totally makes me want to read Girl in the Arena by Lise Haines . Im also done with Entwined by Heather Dixon .. no complaints on my part, it was OK. Now reading The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles, #1) by Kady Cross (after a really reading really neg review, I found myself very curious. My reading experience so far has not bee positive, but I'd like to see where the author takes it. :)

Joan{missing the vampire bunny slippers!} (joan3000) | 100 comments I am almost finished with At Grave's End (Night Huntress, #3) by Jeaniene Frost and I can't wait to start Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, #4) by Jeaniene Frost !

message 6861: by Dora610 (new)

i didn't like the end

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Isa,

I still haven't finished Girl in the Steel Corset. Got about halfway and it was okay (not great but not terrible), but I got sidetracked. Guess I should finish it before the galley expires though.

Um so...

Starting off the month by getting as many group reads out of the way as possible. Gonna start with one adult romance group read and one ya historical group read then move on to my epic fantasy group maybe...

Dark Seduction (Masters of Time, #1) by Brenda Joyce The Vespertine (The Vespertine, #1) by Saundra Mitchell

Finished it last week.It was awesome!

message 6865: by Sky (new)

Sky I am currently reading, Falling Under by Gwen Hayes Falling Under (Falling Under, #1) by Gwen Hayes

message 6866: by thesebooksiread (new)

thesebooksiread I have Falling Under on my list and I am hoping to get it soon! So far Defiance has not disappointed me yet! Tho at the beginning when she started talking about Nathalie I was really confused because she explains who she is a chapter or so later but I was reading it and thinking "how did I miss a whole character?" When I read Vampire Academy I got the list of the order from someone who was WRONG and so I read a book out of order and it was awful so I kept checking that I was right, even though I KNEW I was right. It was quite a few chapters for me until she explained. Then I relaxed. :) The emotions my books cause me... :)

message 6867: by Courtney (new)

Courtney K (cklueh) I started Life As We Knew It (Last Survivors, #1) by Susan Beth Pfeffer last night, really into it. Starting The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown in a minute.

I have officially given up on Steel Corset! LOL.. I need a good adult book but with my current picky attitude im afraid I wount give richelle Mead's stuff their fair shake... so im holding off on those and reading The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood ... Comparing de Stefano's Wither against it, had me curious. :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I finished Steel Corset tonight but was meh on it. The first 5 or so chapters had me interested and were pretty decent, but from there on it slowly got more tedious and tedious. I didn't hate the book, but felt like the author could have trimmed half of it out, and it would have been a better story. She almost went overboard trying to make it all steampunk.

What's been going wrong with the adult reads you've been picking up? I'm having the opposite problem, except with YA. Not a lot is grabbing me in YA right now.

message 6870: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) The problem with YA PNR is that most of it follows the same sort of .. plot. The twilight trend.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) That's why I was wondering why Isa was having trouble with finding good adult reads. Most of the adult stuff I've been reading has been pretty decent lately...it's the ya that's been making me want to bang my head on a desk. Well except for the last 5 I read. There were a few good ya in that bunch.

message 6872: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) Maybe shes read all the good ones. A lot of YA stuff is shit now. Theres a few series I refuse to continue with now. *Cough* Fallen

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) There are some good recent ones, like Anna and Forbidden, but neither one of those are PNR. I'm sure there's some other good ones, but I haven't been reading as much ya, so I couldn't tell you...

Oh well. I'm actually looking forward to some ya books coming up, like Bloodlines and the new Hourglass Door one. Those are pnr and sci-fi, so at least that's something...

message 6874: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) Yeah well non-PNR may be good. YA PNR pretty much sucks though.

I have quite a few to look forward to too like the new Iron Fey ones etc.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Hmmm just realized Hard Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires, #4) by Chloe Neill is out today. May have to pick this one up soon.

Those are both on my TBR list! I'll get them a.s.a.p. This Lullaby is actually really good! I'm so glad... I couldn't handle another crappy book right now. lol I'm a little over halfway done & FINALLY reading every night again, thank God.

I'm also reading the second Disney After Dark, Disney at Dawn, book to my son. I may not be able to stand them, but he enjoys them. Anyone have any suggestions on books that aren't for little ones that might actually be suitable for me to read to my four year old?

This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen Disney at Dawn (Kingdom Keepers, #2) by Ridley Pearson

Joan{missing the vampire bunny slippers!} (joan3000) | 100 comments I am starting Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, #4) by Jeaniene Frost today, but I have one question about At Grave's End (Night Huntress, #3) by Jeaniene Frost .

In this book at some point Patra answers Cat's call and starts laughing and gloating. Ok question: How did Patra got hold of B's cell? When he tells the story later there is nothing that explains that! Or did the vamp that stabbed him thought to take his phone with him...? Lol! Just asking:D

I guess I liked how he made B jealous but no more than that! IMO!

I don't know how suitable they are, but I read a chapter a day from The Bad Beginning Book the First (A Series of Unfortunate Events) by Lemony Snicket series to my twin brothers when they were that age in anticipation of the movie. It's pretty dark for a kid's book, but they loved it.

A lot of the YA-PNR's I've read have been sucky... Im afraid that my sour mood over them might affect my reception of Adult-PNR! Thankfully, a lot of the YA contemps have been working out...

BTW: You guys need to read The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood ! I just finished it and really enjoyed how possible it all seemed. I was afraid it would be inaccessible and that I wouldn't "get" it. But it wasn't. In fact, it sucked me in almost from the very first page. I think I need to read more of Margaret Atwood's stuff.

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood has been on my TBR for FOREVER. Maybe I'll get to it next month, as I have this month's line-up already decided.

Esra wrote: "dead reckoning sookie stackhouse story book 11 I guess :D - charlaine harris -"

I just saw that on a cart in the workroom of my library. I'm only on #5, but I love this series. Each book has been better than the last.

message 6888: by Isamlq (new)

Isamlq @Courtney, yay! you really should. I'd count it in my top three along with The Giver and Never Let Me Go.

I'm reading Lady of Light and Shadows (Tairen Soul, #2) by C.L. Wilson now for something different!

message 6889: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited May 03, 2011 12:59PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh nice. :) Book 2 is good, but I really like where TS goes in book 3 because you get to meet the Tairen more in depth.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) @ Joan,

I don't even remember much about that book of NH or I'd help.

...and I'm shedding a little tear that you didn't like V'lane. Okay, not really, but I was not a huge Barrons fan in the first book. He didn't really get me going until about maybe book 3ish? Then it was on.

Did you read Shadowfever and see what happened with the whole V'lane thing? I didn't see that one coming at all.

That's an excellent idea. He likes dark stuff, he's a huge Batman/Spiderman fan. And lets face it... The Dark Knight was dark. I wasn't sure about letting him watch it, but I did, & he loved it. So he'll probably like this one too! Thanks so much everyone.

Does anyone else have any suggestions on longer books that I can read (like a chapter a night), to my four year old? He'll be five in October, but honestly, he's kind of mature for his age... I just want stuff that probably won't scare him. Thanks guys! <3

message 6895: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited May 03, 2011 10:44PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) What about Charlotte's Web? My teacher read that to us in kindergarden and that's around age 5 to 6. That might work if he likes animals, unless he'd be upset over the spider dying at the end.

I really remember liking the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books as a small child because they were SO funny and imaginative to read when I was young (I loved that her house was upside-down), but some of the values might be very 50's centric from what I recall, so I don't know if it mentions spanking or other things you may/may not approve of depending on what your beliefs are. Those books had my imagination going through the roof though because she always had the craziest "cures" to fix bad children, like there was one where the little boy wouldn't take a bath, so she had him stay in his filth and the parents put seeds into the dirt on his skin at night and he grew carrots on himself!

Me neither! Maybe I didn't really trust him, but that one I didn't expect!! It was well played though! Shadowfever was full of surprises! Any of the things that happened had even crossed my mind as a possibility! Danny...! Vlaine...! Barons and the others...! D.E.G....!

I was not very excited about B in the first book either maybe not so much on the 2nd too, but after that I really did like him!

Sorry Brit, sorry Carina! I guess he's not my type!:)
