HI, Do we post when done for the month or wait till closer to end of each month?
Anita, you can post whenever you'd like. But it's usually better to post when you've completed the month's book, just so you don't forget to post later. :)

Steph wrote: "Anita, how'd you like Moon Called? That's one of my all-time fav series!"Hi Steph,
I enjoyed it alot. I've started the second one and as with most series I find I've been able to fall into the 2nd story easier. Most times for me when I read the first book in a series I have a hard time just relaxing into the story I think that is because it is a new world. I do feel this is going to be a good series and have picked up all 5 books.
Hi Anita, I to have just read Moon Called and love the story but, haven't got my hands on the second one just yet, so let me know what you think of them as you go...You can BLEEP BLEEP if you need to for me so as not to spoil it for me????
So great, Anita. I'm glad! I completely understand and feel the same way about most first books. All the world-building, getting to know the characters, etc. Phew! :)
So... I didn't do a first book for the first month... but I want to continue the challenge... what can I do?
Awesomevegan wrote: "So... I didn't do a first book for the first month... but I want to continue the challenge... what can I do?"I'm sorry to take so long with a reply, but wanted to think about it carefully, especially now that there is another similar challenge up.
I'm afraid you can't "make-up" a missed month once you've started the challenge, but you can continue to meet the "mini-challenges" of each subsequent months along with everyone else!
Happy reading!

I will probably continue to read one 1st in series book each month since I am doing the "I Second That" challenge as well... If I am successful every other month, that is 11/12 a higher success rate than most of my challenges so far. Even though I can't officially "make-up" a missed month I will feel better personally if I read 2 firsts in a month so I have at least read 12 or more total.
Please do keep reading (and posting)! Enjoy your first and seconds (though wondering if a thirds is going to pop up...lol!)
LOL I like that idea! Way to rope us into more challenges... I don't know how I would work that in EVERY month though. I think the firsts and seconds are easier to work in. Unless you actually have a lot of series that you have started or want to start a thirds would be harder. I think come mid next year I will be trying to finish some series and start less of them. I hope to have some finished before then. I don't think I will ever get to clean slate status...
I was at "clean slate"...up-to-date in all "my" series except for the as-yet unpublished books....Then I came here(GR, then SOS)...lol! But having wonderful fun and finding lots of books to enjoy!
OMG, "clean slate" for me is a pipe dream! Although I'm trying my best to cut down on the new series unless the "first" is the only one out so far because after I've read it I can tell myself I'm all caught up on that one! Big delusion there, lol!
Ya I know... Clean slate? HAHAHA Like that's ever going to happen. I guess I will have to pick like 10 series to finish by oh... the end of next year? Hopefully I can get through more than that!
SOS Group Firsts Challenge
July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011
Completed: 2/12
Read 12 books, 1 per month, that are the first in a new to me series.
July Grimspace, Ann Aguirre, 7-7-10 Really liked this book. For some reason it reminded me of The Ship Who Sang by Anne McCaffrey. Most likely because of the mind merging that takes place at one point.
Also read: Stormwalker, Allyson James, 7-25-10 Good start to a new series. Fans of her dragon series will like this one too.
Killing Moon, Rebecca York, 7-29-10 Interesting take on an old legend. I wasn't fully invested in the characters for some reason. I was intrigued by the police detective secondary character so might read more if his story is featured.
August Black Dust Mambo, Adrian Phoenix, 8-8-10 I really liked this book, enough that I'm looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

Laura Lulu wrote: "Shelleyrae & Fran--how did you guys like Hunger Games?"I really liked Hunger Games, but I didn't love it like some did. I had a hard time relating to Katniss (did I spell it right?). I loved Pru the best and she wasn't in it all that much. I just felt more drawn to her character. The circumstances were so horrifying in the book that although it was well done, as a mom, I was so upset by it. I do want to read the rest of the series to see how it all plays out.

Yay for me for paying attention... *hides in embarrassment*
If a series has a prequel can we count book 1 as the first book? I have read the prequel novellas for 2 series and was curious if the first full book would count as a "first" book. These are the two I am referring to:
and
TIA :)
Gus wrote: "OOhh, ohh, I can't believe I missed this one!!! I can backdate, right?"Gus, Judithe is having sweet dreams right now in Japan, and I don't want to answer for her re: backdating, but I do know she made a stipulation for people coming into the challenge late:
For those joining later: You may include "extra" firsts in your first month of the challenge to reach a total of 12 books by June 30, 2011. After the first month, only ONE book per month will count!
So, if you have 2 firsts to read this month, you can just do it that way. Otherwise, I'm going to wait and let Judithe answer you re: backdating. :)
Awesomevegan wrote: "If a series has a prequel can we count book 1 as the first book?
