Welcome, Brooklyn!
Have you uploaded your book onto Good Reads? Do you have a link for it?
Now, about me. LOL
I founded this group because not only am I the owner of two publishing houses, but I truly believe that some of the best reading you are going to find today is available only through independent presses?
Now, I realize that's a bold statement, but I say this because I know indie presses take chances on books that conglomerate publishers won't touch. Many of these books are fabulous, but edgy. Being small, we can take advantage of this. :)
My two houses are: Wild Child Publishing.com, a mainstream fiction/non-fiction publisher, and Freya's Bower.com, a romance and erotica publisher.
I am interested in reading more indie press books.
Please share your story, your favorites, and your observations.

I am the author of Sorrow, soon to be released by Drollerie Press, and two POD published books, Witch Ember and its sequel, The Raven .
My author's site is WitchEmber.com, where you can find sample chapters, reviews, and the like.
Thank you for including me in this group! I look forward to getting to know you and your work.

I have two books available.

I'm D.N. Lyons, first-time author-to-be of What Flavor Are You?, a short story about the hazards of ice pops and boyfriends. It used to be Popsicles, but my editor kindly pointed out that Popsicle probably wouldn't like it if I used their name in a gay sex story. Shame, shame. It really tied the story together.

Hello, I'm Sharon Pennington, native Texan. My debut novel, Hoodoo Money, was released in May by Draumr Publishing, a small independent publishing house in Columbia, Maryland. And they're interested in a sequel.
I tried the agent route first with no luck. Draumr did a wonderful job with my novel - it's beautiful - and they are very author friendly.
However, a good portion of the marketing falls to me. Does anyone have advice to offer? I've done postcards, press releases, flyers are presently being printed for local mom-and-pop/swap-n-shop bookstores. I purposely used a number of locales in the novel, and I'm contacting proprietors, sending some of them a complimentary copy of Hoodoo Money.
I've created a website (that was interesting)http://www.sharonpenningtonwrites.web...
Other ideas? Thanks!
Sharon

I self-published a book of stories based on lies...I mean stories...by father told me about growing up on a farm in West Texas (hi, Sharon!) during the Depression. I put "Tales of a Texas Boy" on the group bookshelf.
I have a scifi titled "First Duty" just released by Sam's Dot Publishing. SDP is also publishing my Aladdinesque fantasy titled "The Seven Adventures of Cadida."
I'm working on the second book in a series titled "Bad Spelling". Another kids' fantasy. I'm querying the first book and hope somebody likes it enough. Tried agents first. To heck with 'em. I love small Indy publishers.
I write for middle-grade since I don't know how adults act.
I'm an Oregonian, born and raised. Wasted 35 years as a tech writer (hi, John!). I took up fiction instead a couple of years ago.
Marci's Wild Child published a couple of anthologies in which I have stories: Weirdly 1 and 2.
My website is at http://marvadasef.com/

And Sharon???
Marketing has been my Number One Challenge. I think you should start a thread just on that.

I'm a huge fan of the paranormal genre, especially vampires...I'm a bookaholic and proud of it...

Visitors are welcome at my website http://peggyullmanbell.com and my blog http://peggyullmanbell.com/sappho_sin... where I am currently featuring an interview with Owen Fiddler, subject and star of Marvin Wilson's latest biographical novel.
I believe herstory to be an awkward word so I use hyststory = hyst (from the Greek for uterus) + story. Vocally, it is globally understood and visually, for me, it works as does Re-versing when used to mean Versing again the altered aspects of our hystory.
Now that y'all are totally confused I say --

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

I am published by three small presses: Freya's Bower, The Wild Rose Press, and Five Star. All have great things to recommend them. All require a good bit of author-instigated promotion.
I'm looking forward to connecting with other writers in this group. check out my books, reviews, and excerpts at www.maggietoussaint.com

About getting your books to show up...
On your "My Books" page, look for the "You have ?? books - Add more" text at the top of the column on the right-hand side. From the new page, look to the right and choose "manually add books" under "other options"
I had to add my books and then go back and edit them to add the picture. Haven't figured out how to do it all in one step. Sigh.
Good luck!

I'm Janet Clark and I've written one novel, Blind Faith. You can find out more about it on my website, http://www.janeteclark.com It's published through 1st World Publishing in Fairfield, Iowa, my home state. I liked working with a somewhat local company. I'm looking forward to visiting with everybody.

Debbie Mumford - I've been all through the editing pages and the goldarned #@!thing sto;; won't upload my book cover from FB whether I sent it to my site, Fictionwise, or Photobucket. I finally sent out a plea to their help line here.
Happy Wednesday everyone

I'm a writer of poetry, fiction and politics. I tend to write about the underbelly of New York City.
My two books are last American Roar and Organic Hotels. One of the best indie presses I have come a cross is soft skull press.

I write serial pulp microfiction with cyberpunk, sci-fi, bizarro and adult themes, and short stories (cyberpunk, sci-fi). Most of my short story fiction is here.
I have one ebook self published which you can access here.
By 'microfiction' I don't mean 'flash fiction', but it could certainly be categorized such. I mean fiction that is no more than 140 characters PER line. That's approximately 25 words per sentence. My first and second microfiction works are serialized at Twitter.com. You can sample my first piece here at GoodReads under my profile.
Thanks much.

I am Eric Blackwell. I self-published a book entitled "Skinny Dipping with the Savior". The book is about revealing your true self with God to have an honest relationship with him. It is written in a conversational tone and I am very pleased with the outcome.

I've been lurking on this group for some time, but I don't think I've ever introduced myself. My name is Amanda Hamm. I am the author of two very different books. The first is a very light love story called Dear Jane Letters. You can read reviews on Amazon (and one or two here) for more information.
My second book is a sci-fi novella set in Antarctica. The title is Zero Station. I have the first chapter of this one on my author page.
Both books are in print and are also on Kindle and Mobipocket.
This is why I haven't introduced myself before. It always reads so much like an ad. Obviously, it would be great if anyone was interested in my books enough to buy one, but I just wanted to share my background. I am also a SAHM to two little ones and work on an occasional freelance article.

My book, Courage in Patience, a story of hope for those who have endured abuse, is published by Kunati Books, Inc., an independent publisher. Kunati won Independent Publisher of the Year from ForeWord Magazine, at this year's BEA in Los Angeles!

We ourselves at Abbeville Press are, in fact, independent publishers! We specialize in arts and illustrated books - you know, those coffee table books - and have recently begun our foray into family books (parenting advice, children's books, etc.)
We hope you guys check us out and enjoy our titles!

I published the book myself under my publishing imprint: Marshmallow Press.

I'd like to second Celia's recommendation to check out the Independent Authors Guild. Not only do the members have many wonderful books to their credit, the data files maintained at the site have tons of practical and helpful advice for indie authors.
My own series of three novels, Distant Cousin, has proven quite popular yet it doesn't fit the niches of traditional publishing. I'm so glad to have gone independent!

I am looking for tips on how to do a book event. I have done a few before, but I am not overly confident on this aspect of the business and would appreciate your advice. I am planning to talk about my writing process and my book- any suggestions, ideas, ways to make it interesting, etc.?
Thanks,
Janet

Take a look at the Independent Authors Guild and PODBRAM. (Google to find them.) Both have personal and specific advice on book events.
Best,

Best wishes!

New to this group - I'm the editor of my husband's (Michael J. Sullivan) books. He has a six-book fantasy series: The Riyria Revelations. The books are all written but only 2 are "out there" at the moment: The Crown Conspiracy | Avempartha

He is published by Aspirations Media Inc. An independent press in Minnesota.
Title: The Crown Conspiracy
Author: Michael J. Sullivan
ISBN: ISBN: 978-0980003437 / 0980003431
Genre: Fantasy
Published: Aspirations Media Inc (October 2008)
ABOUT THE BOOK
Royce Melborn, a skilled thief, and his mercenary partner, Hadrian Blackwater make a profitable living carrying out dangerous assignments for conspiring nobles until they become the unwitting scapegoats in a plot to murder the king. Sentenced to death, they have only one way out…and so begins this epic tale of treachery and adventure, sword fighting and magic, myth and legend. The writing style focuses on characters and plot rather than verbose world building. This first book of the Riyria Revelations is a heroic adventure written for adult readers yet suitable for those 13 and older.

SAMPLE REVIEWS
"The Crown Conspiracy is right up my alley, traditional fantasy, "good" bad guys, a large dose of humor, lots of character development and plenty of surprises." — Fantasy Debut
"Michael J. Sullivan has written a book I will read over and over again and it most definitely will always reside on my favorite’s shelf." — ReaderViews
"There is so many layers to this story that to explain it in a few words is nigh impossible." — Front Street Reviews
"The Crown Conspiracy is great fun and a romp end to end...Highly recommended and another positive surprise for 2008. — Fantasy Book Critic
"A fast paced and riveting fantasy, "The Crown Conspiracy" is well worth reading." — Midwest Book Review
"From the first chapter to the last, the plot twisted and turned in unexpected directions. It takes a great writer to weave a tale that surprises me, that keeps me in suspense, that keeps me reading late into the night and Michael J. Sullivan is a great writer." — Dee Marie, author: The Sons of Avalon
"The Crown Conspiracy was a page turning delight. Each character was intricately constructed so that an air of realism surrounded them. The twists and turns of the novel freed it from predictability and that in itself is refreshing these days. Sullivan is a master story teller" — Violette L. Reid, author: The First Chronicle of Zayashariya: Out of Night
"It's hard to believe that the Crown Conspiracy is Michael J. Sullivan's first novel. He writes with the confidence, the skill, and the sophistication of a seasoned veteran. He has created a story that works on many levels: an epic adventure, a medieval mystery, a fantasy, and a coming -of-age tale." — Susan McLeod, author: Soul and Shadow
ABOUT THE SERIES
Instead of a string of sequels, The Riyria Revelations is a six-book fantasy series conceived as a single epic tale divided into individual episodes. All were written before the first was released so that plot elements are intertwined, yet each is self-contained and can be read independently from each other. With this series you will not be held hostage to read the next one--you will simply want to. Coming in April 2009, the second book entitled Avempartha is available for pre-order now from Amazon.com.
