Getting to Know You

Where in the World?
* I'm currently living in Okinawa, Japan (I love it here, the people are so nice and the food is delish!)
* I'm originally from Virginia
(don't mind all the word shortenin' and ya'llin' I do, I'm a southern girl through and through and some things are just ingrained no matter where I live)
* I would like to retire to Hawaii
(we lived on Oahu for 3.5 yrs and I left my ♥ there, as well as some of my best friends ... Now I just gotta convince the hubby that's where he wants to retire also!)
I currently live in central Minnesota.I am originally from Minnesota.
When I retire I would love to move somewhere warm but I don't think my husband would ever live anywhere without the four seasons.
I currently live in Bentonville, ARI'm originally from Austin, TX
I would like to retire in Ireland or the Virgin Islands.
:)
My oh my - you all certainly get around.Me - I'm boring.
I was born in Schwaz - that's in Austria (no, not with the kangaroos!)
I still live here.
And when I retire I want to live some place without a school anywhere in my sight.
Now: Northern Illinois, about an hour south of Chicago.Grew up: About 15 miles from where I live now.
Retire: Probably not far from where we are now. I'm just used to living so close to all my family & friends for my entire life now, I don't think I could move far away.
Although, talk to me when my kids are grown--if they live in another state, I can't make any promises I wouldn't retire close to them. :)
I'm currently living on Shikoku in Japan (across the water from Osaka), and will be here for the forseeable future.I'm originally from Kennewick, WA (that's in the Tri-Cities, now well-known to Mercedes Thompson fans).
Retirement-living-location isn't something I've given much thought to yet...it really depends on where my kids are. So maybe here, maybe back to the US, or maybe off to enjoy another country!
I live in Walker, Michigan and will be living here for quite a while.I'm originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Retirement living for me would be in a warmer climate instead of having the cold winters in Michigan.
I currently live in Taree, New South Wales, Australia (yes with the kangaroos)I'm originally from Perth, Western Australia (the opposite side of the country)
Most likely we won't move but its 30 odd years off so who knows?
I currently live in Las Vegas, NV...what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!I was born in Bad Hersfeld, Germany...but have lived all over the world (military brat)
I want to retire somewhere where the temp doesn't get above 80 Degrees, but I have at least 30 more yrs to go!
I live in Sydney Australia (also with kangaroos) a couple of hours south of Shelleyrae. Was born here and will probably retire here, unless it gets too much - we have 5 acres to play with.
If it does get too much we'll probably move to Queensland and the sub tropics .....mmm....sun...beach...hunks walking past in not much....
Wow! So cool to see how "all over the place" we are. I wish I'd met some of you AU ladies before we left in Feb. Would'a been neat meeting you IRL.
LOL Sandra! Ahhh, Queensland! We had SO much fun there. I needed much more time to fully enjoy the reef though, 1 day is NOT enough.
PS: I mentioned "retirement wish" mainly b/c hubby retires from USMC in a few yrs, so it's been on our minds a lot lately. Plus it fit with the 'past, present and future' theme of where in the world. :)
I'm currently living in Burrton,KSWas born in Jacksonville,AR
And would want to retire any were but these two places mentioned. Haven't been to to many places so any where would be great!!!!!!!!
I´m currently living in Regenburg, Germany (in Bavaria) but I was born in a really really small town in the Bavarian Forest kind of in the middle of nowhere. I´d love to retire anywhere near the ocean or the beach where it is war all year!
I've been to Frankfurt & Garmisch and had a blast in both, Christine. You meant "warm" all year, yah? :)
Welcome to the group!
Definitely need more than one day on the reef. Did you go snorkeling? Which island did you go to? Enquiring minds want to know!
LOL! We stayed in Port Douglas and took one of those day cruises to the outer reef. I can look up the company's name if you are interested, I think it was with Quicksilver or something. It was awesome! Yeah, just snorkeling. Me & mine aren't dive certified.I added some pictures from the day to my profile, if you want to take a look. (yes, that is a real fish I'm swimming with and yes, he was HUGE! But harmless.)
LOL, I've been to the reef too! First time off Cairns and did Green Is, 2nd Great Keppel. That big fish is a 'groper' and they are supposed to be really friendly, maybe that's where they got their name from?
Ahh happy memories....
Well I consider myself a pacifist, so yes, it would be warm. Not war. Lots and lots of sunshine and happiness. Stupid typing mistakes... ;)
Christine wrote: "I´d love to retire anywhere near the ocean or the beach where it is war all year! "Hehe Christine. This made me giggle. :)
Hello all! I'm currently living in Beaverton, Oregon, which is just outside of Portland, OR. I am originally from Oregon..... I did spend 12 years in Az tho so I do consider myself an Arizonian too ;) No idea where I want to retire, too far off to really even consider at this point :(
Christine wrote: "Well I consider myself a pacifist, so yes, it would be warm. Not war. Lots and lots of sunshine and happiness. (I should make a T-shirt that says that hehe) Just thought that was cute and was sure you didn't want to retire in a war-ravished country. :)

Bavaria sounds so romantic and beautiful! Is it a good place to live?
<--- has NO idea, but hears 'Bavaria' and can't help but think "chocolate YUMMY! Is a candybar for breakfast necessarily a bad thing? Just this once?"
Oh, pretzels or doughnuts, now that I could do for breakfast! I'm not a beer drinker, but my DH is. He LOVED, LOVED Germany!
Marisella wrote: "For some reason I think of romantic little B&B's, good food, big comfy beds. IDK why!"I'm sure they have some awesome B&Bs, Marisella. :)
Chicago, IL is where I live and work. I was born in Berlin, Germany but raised in a small factory/farm town of Sterling, IL. I love Chicago, so I would like to retire here.
I live in a crappy hellhole called Paisley, about 9 miles from Glasgow, in Scotland. Born here and sadly will probably die here as well!Fantasy retiring would be Vancouver in Canada but moving all my books there would be expensive! In reality I'd like to retire to the seaside town of Blackpool in England, or the highlands of Scotland.
I currently live in Corona, CA (Socal)I lived in Fresno, CA for 6 years for school
Grew up in Livermore, CA (it is in the bay area)
So I have slowly but surely moved south in my lifetime, where I want to retire? I have no idea.
I currently live in a suburb west of MontrealI was born in Israel, but lived in Vancouver until I graduated from high school.
I would love to retire to some place where winter does not involve a lot of snow to shovel.
I have lived in NC my whole life! Lived near the beach, the peidmont and would like to retire in the NC mountains.

Yes, North West Territories.
It's a desert, so dry in the summer, and after the initial snowfalls there is no more snow it just blows around like miniscule shards of glass. And being a dry cold most people don't realise they are cold until frostbite sets in, it can seem desolate, but at the same time everyone is so kind and helpful (how else will anyone survive?)

Sounds tough, no wonder you want to stay in British Colombia, I'm guessing the weather is better there.
