Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Man!! How'd you break your nose??? What a huge bummer!

**offers e-chocolate in sympathy** Yaknow... Redwall is on/in audio format, too...

message 103: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments I vote for audiobook!

message 104: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Awww- thanks guys!!! I'm just going to have to tough it out I think. I was able to read like 20 pages today and I still have some time left before I go to bed. Hopefully it will just get better each day. I just had to complain to you guys because I know you'd understand :)

I love audiobooks, but I fall asleep when listening to them at home so the only time I listen to them is when I am driving, but I am not doing any driving right now because my vision is blurry.... (Hence why I have been reading Heist Society forever too because it is my audiobook right now...)

I broke my nose... well... not a glamorous story. I was staying at a hotel and they had a bath tub/shower and I was getting in and slipped and face planted against the wall then falling into the tub- gave me a broken nose, a nasty cut, a mild concussion, a lot of bruises, and whiplash... Not fun.

message 105: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Yikes! I'd go with a purse-snatching gone awry, or a wild night of high heels and bar hopping as my story, haha...

message 106: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) AngelaSunshine wrote: "Yikes! I'd go with a purse-snatching gone awry, or a wild night of high heels and bar hopping as my story, haha..."

Man those are good ones!
The only ones we could come up with are head butted by a goat at a petting zoo OR getting kicked in the face by a horse.
I didn't like any of those, so I've just stuck with the story :)

message 107: by Amy (new)

Amy Sorry to hear about your injury Kellee. I would have probably said I got into a brawl at a sale at the mall. LOL! I love my shopping!

Is there a place where all the genres are definied?

message 108: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Awww Kellee, I'm so sorry about your nose. Audiobooks really are awesome, but they don't work for everyone. I hope it's feeling better, at least.

*bakes more brownies and lemon bars to ease the pain*

We have genre folders and a topic at the beginning of each folder where we discuss it, but I think for the Challenge, Angela's leaving it up to us to decide Amy.

Which genre are you having trouble with?

message 111: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) And thank you everyone for the kind words :)

message 112: by Amy (new)

Amy Well stupid me asked a bit ago about dystopian, lost the post and didn't write it down. I was also wondering if dystopian, apocolcalyptic, post ap. were all one big category, or if we can break it up into three separate ones?

message 113: by Amy (last edited Jul 10, 2010 11:23AM) (new)

Amy Thanks Heather! I appreciate it! I'm printing the descriptions so I won't have to ask again!

Angela said we could break them up.

Wikipedia says sci-fi

Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) (alybee930) | 446 comments Thanks Kellee.

message 120: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Oops Amy- I guess I was wrong. :)
Pooh- I guess we're limited to how they're listed on the list.

message 121: by Amy (new)

Amy That's fine with me!

Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) (alybee930) | 446 comments Angela or Someone - Do nominations count as awards or do they actually have to win the award? And is it just 5 pts. no matter how many awards?

Thanks for clarifying...

message 123: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Hi Alyson, I think the book has to win an award, not just be nominated, and I believe it's a 5 point maximum, no matter how many awards the book earned.

message 124: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Alyson wrote: "Angela or Someone - Do nominations count as awards or do they actually have to win the award? And is it just 5 pts. no matter how many awards?

We'll need to ask Angela to clarify. I know she did say that honors counts, so I am not sure. I was counting them....

Angela?

message 125: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (affie) | 468 comments I think it was decided that if Goodreads lists the award on the book's page in the information bar, it would count. So, Newbery and Printz honors count because GR lists them, but others might not.

message 126: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments I'm pretty sure she said nominations don't count, but honors do.

message 127: by Angela Sunshine (new)

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Sorry, I'll chime in now! Honors do count, but nominations do not. I have not been checking up on award statuses, if you guys have claimed the points I have just gone ahead and given them. Scouts honor and all that...

And yes, 5 points total for awards whether it's won 1 award or 20.

message 128: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Man! I am 0 for 2. That is a really bad batting average.

message 129: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Good news is, you're still a pro Kellee! :)

Ashley (affie) | 468 comments I feel like this question has been asked before, but I can't find it-

What is the difference between Manga and Graphic Novel? I hear both terms used interchangeably for the same books. (Specific books that I am thinking about right now are American Born Chinese and Maus)

Thanks!

Ashley,

Both of those are graphic novels.
Manga are comics published in Asian countries. They usually read right to left instead of left to right and have a distinct style of drawing.

message 134: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (affie) | 468 comments Oh. Good to know. Thanks Kellee!!

Alyson (Kid Lit Frenzy) (alybee930) | 446 comments Thanks for the clarification I was wondering that myself.

message 136: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Welcome :)

Some Manga have been "Americanized" so they don't read right to left, but they are all originally from Asian countries.

Graphic novels can either be a volume of comics put together or just a story in comics. A single comic book is not a graphic novel.

I took a workshop :P

message 137: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments You can tell by the style if it's a manga and they're all the same.. size? normally at least. Manga is actually a category under Graphic Novels, but it's so huge it kinda gets its own section at bookstores like Borders. :)

message 138: by Amy (new)

Amy That's helpful that it gets it's own section. Will make my life easier when I go and look for something I want to read.

Amy Michelle......I had Rebel Angels on my list too but then looked at it and realized it was book TWO in the series. Have you read book one?

Amy wrote: "Michelle......I had Rebel Angels on my list too but then looked at it and realized it was book TWO in the series. Have you read book one?"

No, I haven't. But it is letter G on my list so I will read it first and then the second. I have heard such tremendous things about that whole series.

message 146: by Amy (new)

Amy Me too. I'm gonna go and try and find book one so I can start it.

Ashley (affie) | 468 comments I've read the Gemma Doyle books and I really enjoyed them. The first wasn't my favorite, it was a little slow moving with all the world building, but I really enjoyed the series. I hope you two like them!

Tammy Cordeiro (devadasi7) | 14 comments That is a fabulous series. The first one is called A Great and Terrible Beauty. There is a third book in the series also, The Sweet Far Thing. I loved these books, but I didn't really like the way it ended. ::shrugs::

Oooh, now I'm even more intrigued. Was it a sloppy ending or did you just have a preference toward a different outcome?
