You and some others have been so enthusiastic about this series that I'm having very high expectations.... and am afraid to be underwhelmed because of it. I enjoyed it. Dragged a bit in sections, but understandable for a 800+ pg book. I listened to it on audio while packing, and really enjoyed that version. I can understand why some people would be disturbed by it, but I have read a lot worse.

Frankly, I didn't understand the commotion about the 'controversial' bits. They didn't bother me in light of the events and customs of that time.

Now, the short of Sunny I read in an anthology, that did bother me! I'm curious to see how you like the Mona Lisa book ;)

Yes, you have to remember how much I and tons of others love the Fever series, and then also remember that I didn't want to continue the series after I read the 1st book. But I soldiered on based on GR peer pressure and it so paid off. And I think with you being from overseas, Mac will definitely annoy you. She's one of those American foreign travelers. But the girl grows, and the story and mystery of it all are just awesome.

But yes, go in expecting to be annoyed by early Mac and you will be fine. :)

And yes--definitely have Gandy in your head for Barrons. He's perfect for him.

And Lover Mine was one of the 1st books I read this month, and I really liked it. I like where she's taking the series, with the jumping around POV's from chapter to chapter. And she's fleshing out the bad guy stuff a bit--the old lesser storylines were horrible. It's still definitely PNR, but with much more side stories & plot. Me likey.

And as much as I love JM & Xhex, Qhuay stole the show for me. :)

I finally got to read Jim Butcher's newest Dresden book Changes. All I can say is--IT CAN'T END THIS WAY. I don't know how easy its going to be, waiting for the next book to come out. No spoilers, but, still I don't believe he left us with what is possibly a cliff hanger to end all cliff hangers. . .
