Jessica- Embrace the Night DONE 6/1 ★★★★ I see why the Cassie Palmer series was so popular. Just loved the entire cast of characters. Loved how the vegas setting just came alive.

Deanne- Curse the Dawn Done 6/2 ★★★★ I'd like to see the Mercea/Cassie love story actually commit and go there. It is time now.

Dawn- Mark of the Demon Done 6/6 ★★★★ UF. I love UF. This is original and fun. Too bad there aren't more in the series finished!

Melinda- Blood of the Demon Done 6/7 ★★★★ Same series as above. Heroine is a police dective and demon summoner. Demons are from other dimensions and there is no hell/satan/lucifer. Demons just have a different set of values/morals. Like Fae have different value system. This series focuses ont he investigation, but in true UF style we are learning more about the heroine as the story goes and she grows.

Melanie- Beyond The Darkness Done 6/8 ★★★★ I didn't read the first five and did enjoy this story. It is very typically PNR. It started slow for me, but once I met Styx and the other characters I was swept away. The story picked up. I will buy the next one.

Judithe- Tiger Eye Done 6/9 ★★★★★
LOVED this story. Not a huge PNR fan. But I thought her voice was insanely talented. Every word counted. I found myself highlighting all over the place. The plot was good, but it could have been a very ho hum book. It was absolutely her voice that made it sing.

Lily- Shadow Touch Done 6/10 ★★★ I love her writing and enjoyed the story pretty well. My issues: this is PNR and when I wait 3/4 of the way through a book for sex, I want deets dammit. How does anyone write PNR and not describe the actual moment? come on. put that literary prose to good work and write something HOT! Other than that, I don't like how she paces a story. The set up takes most of the book and most of the action is in the last 1/4. Acutally I think the big show down was a few pages long.

Socrate- Club Shadowlands ★★★ Done 6/11 I'm too old to be a prude, so after reading some of the recent threads I decided to try some real erotica. As in Over 18 Warnings and all. This series is about a sex club on BDSM night. Seriously, I enjoyed it as an education- it helped me understand why anyone would do any of this. I went from thinking that all these people should be arrested to realizing to each his own if they are consenting. These two characters see others use whips but they are pretty easy going. I liked that these two fall in love and it isn't just sex for sex as many books are.

Marlene- Dark Citadel★★★ Done 6/11 Another shadowlands club book. I liked better than the first, but man I am glad I am not these people. Talk about issues.

Laurie Go Fetch! Done 6/11 ★★★★ Funny. Characters develooped in book one and I really enjoyed seeing their story play out.

Brandi Pack Challenge Done 6/11 ★★★★Short, funny, good story, well done characters, sex isn't until the endish- but worth the wait.

Here Kitty, Kitty! ★★★★★ Done 6/11 I have decided I really love this series! It is like The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants for adults. Yep the end has lots of well described sex, but nothing I would say was extreame. The best part is that it is about 3 best friends and all three continue their stories in each book. Sarah is first, but she is vital in books two and three and her character is well developed. I like BDB, but really, Where was Beth in her brother's book? It was an author's choice, but I love how in Sisterhood all the girls are in all the books and that is the case here too. Now that all 3 are matched it will be interesting to see how they stay in the next books.

Yeah, I read the first two books in the series this week and the only challenge I'm having right now is reading other books. I just want to read them all, right now! They were so good.

MARTINA'S JUNE "READING WITH FRIENDS" PNR CHALLENGE UPDATE . . . 3/10 COMPLETE

Just finished Swallowing Darkness (Meredith Gentry, Book #7) by Laurell K. Hamilton which I give ★★★★. This book is urban fantasy with a handful of fairly graphic sex scenes, including a M/F/M. However, IMO, this one was less racy/erotic than previous books in this series. It also has fairly graphic violence/death scenes.

MILD SERIES SPOILER: Meredith, princess of faerie is finally pregnant - and with twins - by her royal guard - something that should secure her the crown of the dark fae and a relative amount of safety as these will be the first children born to faerie in 30 years. However, danger abounds from both dark & light faerie courts as jealous family members seek to destroy not only Merry, but her unborn children and her lovers, as well.

I very much enjoyed this book, in part because you finally get a solid reasoning for Merry's actions & choices. An insight into what's most important to her. I also love the same things that I loved about the previous book - the slow and beautiful (yet sometime very scary) return of the magic of faerie, and Merry's holistic, inclusive view of all the denizens of faerie. The crazy sex scenes that were present in previous books (and IMO often didn't further the plot a whole lot) were missing in this one. Yes, there was still sex, and some of it was still relatively taboo (that M,F,M one I mentioned above) but it didn't overwhelm the storyline. I also found that the story wraps up much cleaner than others in the series. It feels like it could be the series end - which makes me wonder if LKH's contract was up for renewal after this one. Of course, book #8 is already out in hardback so there's no reason to fear an ending quite yet. :-)

I'll definitely pick up #8 as I like this new Merry and the more balanced sex vs. plot vs. action quite a bit and I have hopes that the next one is similar.

1. Mind Game by Christine Feehan (Deanne)6/5/10Just loving this series! Great interaction, and also curious to know more about their lives together after they've gotten together. There are glimpses of the characters with established relationships, but would like to know more...maybe in a future book!
2. Street Game by Christine Feehan (Nita)6/3/10Communication...that's the word that kept running through my head all through this book. If they had communicated more honestly, they would have settled everything faster...but we wouldn't have had such a great story to read! Love the characters, and find them intriguing too. Very looking forward to reading more about the Ghostwalkers.
3. Murder Game by Christine Feehan (Mel W)6/6/10 Still lovin it!
4. The Nymph King by Gena Showalter (Rachel)6/1/10: I read the last 2 books out of order, so was just dying to see what happened in this one, and devoured it in a few hours. Lots of fun, though had expected a larger role by Poseidon from hints in the other books. Still, quite good overall!
5. First Drop of Crimson by Jeaniene Frost (Kelley Anne) 6/8/10: It was another fantastic visit to Frost's world. Loved seeing Bones and Cat again, and loved how the story of Spade and Denise developed. The end wasn't unexpected, but still satisfying. I look forward to more of these "side" stories!
6. Kiss of Heat by Lora Leigh (Delicious Dee)6/6/10 Hot!
7. Moon Called by Patricia Briggs (Melanie)6/9/10 This is a favorite series of mine, and still a good read no matter how many times I pick it up. If you haven't read it yet, you definitely should! One more thing, it's set in my hometown--love actually "seeing" the places Mercy's at even though I haven't been there in years or lived there much longer than that!
8. Guilty Pleasures by Laurell Hamilton (Mette)6/4/10 Seemed rather nostalgic to re-read after so much has changed in Anita's world...really enjoyed this first novel.
9. Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris (Sara)6/10/10Ms. Harris is one of my favorite authors...always pre-order her books and can't wait for them to arrive. I haven't gone back to the start of Sookie's adventures in quite awhile, and it was really fun to visit again. She's a refreshingly "real" heroine, and I enjoy a few laughs at her take on the events happening in her life.
10. Poppy Done to Death by Charlaine Harris (Shelleyrae) :6/1/10:Loved it! This was the only Aurora Teagarden I hadn't read, and so enjoyed it! I really like her character and her outlook. (Shelleyrae)
