Does anyone else besides me hate Harry Potter?

Caitlin Pierson The series was supposed to be for children, so it may seem boring to those who are older. This is to be expected, seeing as though Harry was only 11 in the first book. However, Harry grows up throughout the series. Each book brings more depth and growth as Harry grows, and this allows for a wider range in age. For those who say that they found the first two to be boring, they should not just stop there. The series gets more interesting as you go due to the change in age.

please, the use of profanities are not required to emphasize your opinion. a more civilized manner of speaking would be most favorable =)

Kate Old-Barbarossa said: "Surely an increase in child literacy is to be applauded? Yes readers may start on HP, but if they end up with a passion for Shakespeare, Joyce, or Tolstoy is that also detrimental? They are after all popular...but as you say, "Just because something is popular doesn't mean it is good or right. Often, just the opposite is true."

I must say that I agree completely with you on this point. I began reading the series in first grade and fell in love with them. I had always been a reader, but the Harry Potter books really increased my passion for literature and made me the avid bookworm that I am. Really the primary concern for most novelists that write for children is engaging them and captivating them in order to foster a lifelong love of reading and learning. And Harry Potter was intended for child audiences, where it was actually rather groundbreaking, since it exceeded the previous maximum suggested lengths for children's books, had far more characters than were advised, and contained some more mature and advanced material. Sure, some of the characters may be a bit flat, and yes, the plot is essentially the same from one book to the next, and no, I would not put J.K. Rowling on a list of the Best Authors in the Universe, but she did a very nice job.

message 127: by Sierra (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sierra Bookworm☺️♪ i thought it was a pretty cool twist, how harry was a horcrux as well.... but at least he was alive in the end!

Valentine I think that like most everyone who has ever had a negative comment to make about J.K.Rawling's incredible Harry Potter series, your hatred for HP is that it wasn't your idea. Good writing is good writing, without regard to who wrote it, who stars in it and who likes or dislikes it. Obviously based on the mammouth success of the series, you are part of a miniscule minority.

Meggi Lou i sort of liked it...

message 130: by Becky (new) - rated it 5 stars

Becky i really liked it

Caitlin Pierson Fadhilah wrote: "I mean, it's like pointless ...
hate it."

I have to disagree with you here. "Pointless" would mean that there would be no point to Harry "dying," when it is actually a very important part of the plot. It is when the horcrux in Harry is killed, meaning that Voldemort can now die. It extremely important and without this part, everyone's favorite protagonist would have actually died.

Laila All i'm saying is that I LOVE the HARRY POTTER SERIES!

message 133: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay, so some people may hate Harry Potter, but there is no reason to call people idiots! That's a bit mean, cuz I love Harry Potter!

Meggi Lou i guess the 1st book is super boring but you CAN"T let that turn u off! the rest of them are the best books ever, especaly 4-7!

message 136: by Becky (new) - rated it 5 stars

Becky yeah i agree

message 137: by [deleted user] (new)

Kayla,
I agree with Amber. You shouldn't insult people who like it. If someone loves something, then you shouldn't be told that your an idiot because you do.
Fine, hate Harry Potter, but you don't need to put others down because you don't like it.

Yashasvi Angadi U ARE COMPLETELY HATEUL KAYLA....

hello, it just seems they aren't my taste personally. I say 'oh well' not everything is for everyone. Frankly I didn't care enough to read those books into the series and THEN it starts getting interesting. It doesn't has to be a page turner from the first page, but gimme something, LOL. I do understand what you're suggesting though. As an aside, I don't know about calling people idiots over a damn book, tad bit dramatic. I think some of these people need to go hit some golf balls or get a massage to blow off that steam 0_0

Kathryn Souva After reading the first book I still don't know why Voldemort (not sure if the spellings right) is trying to kill harry potter.

message 141: by Ann (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ann I agree with Nava.
Harry Potter is not stupid.
I love Harry Potter!
If it is stupid, why do you think it was sold so much?
Because everyone in the world is stupid?
I'm sure THAT IS NOT THE TRUTH!

message 142: by Asher (new) - rated it 5 stars

Asher LOL Successful troll is successful W2g Kayla. You GR people are way too easy...just ignore blatant troll threads like this. You can pick them out easily. They're usually completely asinine and have nothing to back their own opinion up. Lolz. I'm only here because I think this shit is hi-freaking-larious.

Anyone that picks up a book to read is definitely not an idiot. People who write things on an open forume such as is quoted above need to be evaluated.
