Matt, Welcome aboard....Mr. Burgett also has three other works in print...Seven Roads To Hell,The Road To Arnhem, and Beyond The Rhine....check them out.
Haha thanks carl. Boom tsh! And thanks all. Wade, I have Seven Roads to Hell: A Screaming Eagle at Bastogne already, but I've been meaning to get the others. I really love his writing style, it's so down-to-earth and visceral. :)
Just saying hi, new to the group. Looking forward to seeing what it is all about and learning new things. First time on any group, so be nice.
John wrote: "Just saying hi, new to the group. Looking forward to seeing what it is all about and learning new things. First time on any group, so be nice."Hey welcome John. Good to have u aboard. Hope you enjoy. Plenty of discussions here about great WWII books and such likes. Looking forward to discussing plenty with you.
Hello,My name is Philippe. I am Belgian born and naturalized US citizen. I am mostly interested in WWII European theater, especially the lesser know aspects of it. Everybody knows about the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, but few have any idea for example of the May 1940 campaign from a Belgian standpoint. I have been amazed how a good many books had been translated in English. I am also fascinated by the Russian campaign, not because I admire the Germans but by the fact of how human beings on both sides can endure such misery and continue to function and survive.
Hi Philippe, welcome to the group, I hope you find some books and discussions of interest. We have a thread on the Eastern Front with some very good books mentioned there. I'm also a big fan of the Russian campaign as are a few other members here.

Hi Philippe. Welcome to the group. I'm fascinated by the eastern front too just like you and how and why they kept on fighting. Looking forward to plenty of discussions with u. David A.
Welcome Matt, John, and Philippe.
Philippe, I see you are from Cockeysville, MD... I lived in neighboring Frederick County for 12 years. Much history in Maryland - especially of the Civil War - including the Battle of Gunpowder Falls in your town. There is also some important WWII history in your area... the ordnance museum at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, and the Coast Guard Cutter Taney (WHEC-37) now on permanent display at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The Taney, for those who do not know, was at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th, 1941, she engaged the Japanese with anti-aircraft fire, and survived the attacks fully operational. The Taney saw duty in both the Atlantic and Pacific in WWII, and served as a command ship during the Battle of Okinawa for Rear Admiral Calvin Cobb. Taney had a long history of service with the US Coast Guard before and after WWII... she was involved in the search for Amelia Earhart in the South Pacific and also saw duty in Vietnam and was still an active duty ship when I served in the CG in the late 70's and early 80's. I would highly recommend a tour of the ship if you visit the Inner Harbor of Baltimore.

Hello everyone.A quick introduction - I'm an avid fan of military history, currently based in Frankfurt, Germany, though have been based in Manila for almost the past three decades, working in the international development arena across Asia. Also have a new book on military history coming out this September, The Devil's Causeway, which I'll post more about on the author page, part of a trilogy that I hope will take us up to the Battle of Manila. Looking forward to some interesting reads and great discussion!
Best,
Matthew Westfall

Hi all - I'm Brian 63 yrs old and live in Pine Bush, NY. Life longer reader and lover of history.I have read a number of World War II books, both non-fiction and non-fiction. A large number of the non-fiction have been about the Pacific theater (as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran it is almost required).
As I read, I realized that I would like a broader overview of WWII. Found your group while looking for books that would fit the bill.
I'm currently reading:
by C. L. Sulzberger. My wife and I will compare notes while she reads:

Hello everyone! My name's Agathe, I'm a 19 year old med school student and currently live in Brussels, Belgium, originally from Paris. I'm passionate about history, especially the two world wars, and thanks to a brilliant history teacher I had when I was 15, I've started hunting books and documentary as much as I could. I quite love Beevor's work these days, and am really looking forward to learning from all of you!
I'm currently reading The Second World War
As well as re-reading The Pacific
Hi Agathe, great to see you here and good to hear that you have such a passion for this period of history. I am yet to read Antony Beevor's The Second World War so I will be keen to hear your thoughts on the book once you have finished.

Hi, my name's Jolo. I'm relatively new to the site, and am enjoying it so far. I live in the Philippines and have always been a lover of history in general, and World War 2 in particular. Thanks for adding me up to the group and hope to get to discuss much about anything really... :)
Welcome Jennifer alway good to have another Aussie on board. Also welcome Jolo looking forward to meeting you both in the discussions.
Hi Jolo, welcome to the group, it must be interesting living in the Philippines which must have a lot of WW2 history to explore.
Very much so! The Battles of Manila, Coreigidor, Leyte and the Bataan Death March are probably the most well known events of World War 2 here at home. Would love to get to share stories (though admittedly I have very few to share if any) with you guys here. Thanks again for letting me join!
