Hello everyone. My names Steve and i've been an avid reader of military books for many years. My main area of interest in ww2 is the eastern front mainly because of the colossal size of the campaign. Also read extensively about western Europe but never really delved into the pacific theatre so looking forward to some good recommendations from you all.
Hi Steve and a big welcome to the group. I think you will find yourself in good company here, quite a few fans/readers of accounts covering the Eastern Front. We have a dedicated thread for books covering that campaign if you want to check it out:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
You also just missed out on a group theme read on that front as well but I am sure we will have many more down the track:

We have this thread covering good books on the Pacific theatre if your interested:

And we have just started this theme read:

Hello and welcome to all newcomers! I seem to be the resident Finn here so my perspective is usually a bit... different. For example I guess we were part of the Eastern front, too, but still it was completely different than in the south.
Stevie wrote: "Hello everyone. My names Steve and i've been an avid reader of military books for many years. You'll find members with great knowledge of all the theaters, weapons, operations and personalities of WW II.
Welcome Stevie and Roger, glad to have you here. Feel free to jump right into the conversations. It's a great group.
Hey history buffs,
Just writing to introduce myself, first wanted to thank Aussie Rick for the welcome message! I'm a 25 year old college student in California, In the process of finishing my history degree. I've always had an interest in military history, from ancient times to modern warfare. It was always the one class in school where learning actually felt fun! The first real WW2 history books that got me started in reading history books was the Liberation Trilogy by Rick Atkinson, which I recently finished. It's great to know there's like minded individuals out there!

Omnia: Welcome to our group. You will find a wide sample of knowledgeable and friendly members.
@ Geevee: Whenever I run into exceptionally nice people who seem to be interested in WWII, I invite them to the group. (And several have already followed my invitation.) This lets them find our group, which I consider the nicest one on Goodreads, and it also enriches our group. However, there has been a problem with this, lately: The link I have given to the Holocaust thread has not worked for some people (while it has worked for other people). And some people have also had problems to find the group without a link.
Has anybody got any idea how this problem can be eliminated? As everyone knows, I am a computer-dummy.
Omnia wrote: "hello everyone ! my Name is Omnia "means wish" :)..."Welcome to the best little group on Goodreads, Omnia. Glad you found us.
Greetings all. My name is Gray. I am 20 years of age, a college student at Purdue, and a licensed commercial pilot preparing for the airlines. In my spare time I like to turn my introverted charisma to the consumption of just about any and all academic-type historical narratives, preferably of the 20th century. I look forward to the countless recommendations I am sure to glean from you all.
Welcome to the group, Gray. Although I spent most of my time during the past few decades being a college professor, I also managed to be a commercial pilot and fly some 10,000 hours before I gave it up! More importantly, perhaps, you may actually like my World War II memoir, My Name Was Five, which is embedded in a framework that involves a flight from New England to Key West. I did make that flight, but its sad ending is fictional, which is the reason for my calling the book a novel rather than a memoir, which it otherwise is. Of course, I had a special reason for my use of this device; it allowed me to illustrate the PTSD effects of that great war that affected me and so many others.
Gray wrote: "Greetings all. My name is Gray. I am 20 years of age, a college student at Purdue, and a licensed commercial pilot preparing for the airlines. Hi Gray and welcome to the group. Like Manray9 has mentioned this is a pretty decent group with members from all over the globe and with wide and varied interests. I hope you enjoy your time here.
Gray wrote: "Greetings all. My name is Gray. I am 20 years of age, a college student at Purdue, and a licensed commercial pilot preparing for the airlines. In my spare time I like to turn my introverted charism..."Hi, Gray,
Welcome to the group! I can guarantee that you will love it. I consider it the nicest group on Goodreads. -- I suggest you start your WWII-reading with Heinz's book. It is my favorite memoir of all times, and being a pilot, you will definitely cherish the frame the memoir is embedded in. (Oh, dear, this is a typical un-English, German-sounding tapeworm-sentence. Never mind.)
My Name Was Five: A Novel of the Second World War
I suggest you get the paperback version. I have both, the paperback and the kindle. Yet I find the paperback so much nicer.
Gray wrote: "Greetings all. My name is Gray. I am 20 years of age, a college student at Purdue, and a licensed commercial pilot preparing for the airlines. In my spare time I like to turn my introverted charism..."Gray: Our November theme is the Pacific Theater. Since you mentioned academic histories, allow me to recommend:
Nimitz by E.B. Potter
A Different Kind of Victory by James Leutze
I Was There by Admiral William D. Leahy
Hi Gray, Manray9 has mentioned this months theme read, here is the link if you want to check it out:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Gray wrote: "Greetings all. My name is Gray. I am 20 years of age, a college student at Purdue, and a licensed commercial pilot preparing for the airlines. Glad you found us, plenty of good books to discover.
Gray wrote: "Greetings all. My name is Gray. I am 20 years of age, a college student at Purdue, and a licensed commercial pilot preparing for the airlines. I have a new one out in March.

Hello, I'm a Canadian journalist and soon-to-be-author, as my first wartime novel has just been accepted by a publisher. Bird's Eye View is about a young Canadian woman who goes overseas, joins the air force, and becomes an aerial photographic interpreter. Although it won't appear until late next year, I have started my own blog in the meantime called Wartime Wednesdays. Please check it out at www.elinorflorence.com.
