Finished
. I have to say it's been a long time since John Grisham had a great book and this was one of his best in a long time. I am now starting
Tay, I read John Grishams
- and that one was really good - did you read it, and what did you think of it? I am excited to read
.

."I thought "The Litigators" was excellent. I love Grisham, but some of his more recent books have lost a step or two. Not this one! You won't be disappointed.
Just finished Survivor and found it rather disappointing. Gave it 2 stars. Just started The Guardians by one of my favorite authors, Andrew Pyper.

Just finished The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding and Lord Edgware Dies and am now reading The Whisperer having a good reading month : )
Marjorie wrote: "I finished Farthing which I posted about above. Wow. What a page-turner! ..."I love Farthing and it's sequels, Marjorie. They are amongst the best books I have read this year. Ha'penny is possibly not quite as good as Farthing, but it's still excellent. And Half a Crown is sensational. They were so hard to put down that I read each book in about two sittings.
I've finished Death Comes to Pemberley. It was a major disappointment. My advice to anyone contemplating reading it is to do so only if you must and make sure you borrow it from a library or pick it up second hand. It's certainly not worth paying retail for.
just finished Where There's Smoke by simon beckett, was really good compared to his other earlier ones. the david hunter series is by far his best though

A friend told me that Among Others by Walton is very good. Have you read that one?
Diane wrote: "A friend told me that Among Others by Walton is very good. Have you read that one? ..."No, I haven't read that one, Diane. The only books by Walton I've read are the Farthing trilogy. I'll add Among Others to the TBR pile. Thanks for that!
Jeff wrote: "I just started Kathy Reichs Deadly Décisions so far it is about gang wars and a little girl who is killed in the crossfire."I liked that book. I'm currently reading
by her. It's really good as well. I hope to finish it this weekend.

Loved it.If you are interested in this series I have posted an Author spot light on my blog about Alan Bradley. Come by and check it out. http://jackleenslibrary.blogspot.com/

i have all her books very interesting to read about Montreal and sometimes the townships where I grew up.
I just finished Dark Rising by Greig Beck. It was a fun read, but left me feeling like there could have been more to it. Now I'm reading Sanctus by Simon Toyne. It has a kind of Dan Brown style that might work.

I enjoyed Sue Grafton for years (even met her years ago and got her to autograph a book) but her recent books are a disapointment. I recommend her alphabet books only to around J. I just finished U is for Undertow and found it quite boring.
I just read Killing Lincoln: The Assassination that Changed America ForeverThis, of course, is not fiction, but does read like fiction. Everyoneshould read this book. It is a thriller and it also is about one of our greatest presidents according to most Americans. I give it 5 stars!!!!!!!!!!

I just finished this book. This was a good novel. I think it could have been sized down a little. At times it was slow because she went into so much detail that I almost lost interest in what she was saying. I expected part of the book but didn't know who the killer would be.
Finished
which is the first of a new trilogy set in 1940 with the land army girls. Great historical data and a duper mystery. Now reading
, has anyone else read this series? This was seems to be about the beginning of Jazz in New Orleans and Chicago.
I always keep an eye out for his in the UBS, Diane. But there are five Fever books before this one. *I'm anal when it comes to reading a series in order! lolhttp://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/d/p...

I know> I have read them all, love his folklore and historical references and the characters too of course.
Think they are very unique.
Oops...thought you just found his new one! :)Have you read his Flap Tucker series also? It looks fun too.
Merry Christmas.

Have not read the Flap Tucker series, but he is a very good writer so I might check them out in the new year. Merry Christmas to you as well.

I just added these to my "to-read" shelf! Thanks!
I just finished Catching Fire last night. I didn't like it quite as much as the first in the series, but I will still read Mockingjay to find out how everything plays out.
Barbara wrote: "I'm reading The Monster of Florence by Douglas Preston."I thought that was WELL done! Not pleasant, but well done.
I just finished When a Crocodile Eats the Sun: A Memoir of Africa. Godwin is an incredible writer, but the subject matter is horrendously stark.
Just started The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party which I expect to enjoy. I've liked nearly all of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency books so far.
Sharon wrote: "Just started The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party which I expect to enjoy. I've liked nearly all of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency books so far."I put this on hold at the library. I like the series as well.
Currently reading 1984 by George Orwell. I just finished This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
I'm currently rereading Shamini Flint Inspector Singh Investigates: A Most Peculiar Malaysian Murder for our mystery book group meeting tomorrow night. Recently finished Leighton Gage A Vine in the Blood--the latest of his fabulous series set in Brazil. Love the main character and the plot in this one deals with the kidnapping of the mother of Brazil's best football/soccer player just before the World Cup. Just terrific! Also read Camilla Lackberg The Preacher, the second in her series set in western Sweden. A real pro at the opening set piece, this is a welcome sequel to The Ice Princess. Also currently reading William Ryan Holy Thief and Quentin Bates Cold Comfort.
I've just finished Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter immediately followed by Still Life by Louis Penny. At this moment, I'm feeling that Slaughter was too gory and Penny is too cozy. Still not sure how I'll feel in a day or two - will be interesting to see which way I will turn...

Hi all. Fast message before going to exchange all the pressies. (The 26th is a holiday in these parts.) Santa got all the sizes wrong this year *oops* My only excuse is that when I bought the sweater for my son it fit; he grew in the meantime!
Just finished Captain Blood which is great fun and can be had for free from Gutenberg. So load up those Christmas Kindles, Nooks and eReaders!

I just finished reading
and I'm going to read
and finish it before the year ends, then after that I'm going to read
!
In the middle of all the holiday preparations and travel I did manage to do some reading. I finished A Most Peculiar Malaysian Murder and had to smile as Insp Singh reminded me a bit of Hercule Poirot and Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiarywhich was just OK and not one of David Sedaris's best.
I'm currently reading The Boy in the Suitcaseand a bunch of short stories by Agatha Christie.
Finally, I got an ereader from Santa so this afternoon I'll be trying it out. Wish me luck with downloading a few books.

Still not sure..."I've tried a couple of Slaughter's books and find them just too graphic and grim for me to consider them entertainment. I can handle graphic in moderation, but quite a few of the current authors seem to revel in adding *grim and depressing* to the mix as well. Seems overdone, to the extent that I simply consider it unpleasant to read and Slaughter is definitely one of those for me.

Yay Santa!!
Yay Santa!!

I had wondered about Blindsighted but hadn't tried to pick it up. I don't mind some darker books on occasion - love Elizabeth George but I need some light, humorous or cozy books to mix in. I agree this is for entertainment I don't need to be depressed. Just finished G M Malliet's Death of a Cozy Writer. Enjoyed it. On the light side but with a bit of twist on the regular British manor cozy. Went to start a book on my shelf today that I'm looking forward to - Winter in Madrid but when I saw it was set in the Civil War decided to postpone and read something lighter on kindle. Retirement can be Murder - light Florida humor mystery so far, by Phil Edwards.
I just finished
. I liked this novel. It was very good and the plot was well thought out. The more that I read about Lucy the more I wish she'd move near Kay. I like Marino a lot more too. My only complaint is that the lose ends weren't all tied up to my liking.
I was excited to find Breaking Blue by Tim Egan on the local library shelves. I think it will be a good holiday week read. I don't read a lot of true crime, but this was in eastern Washington (Spokane) during the 1930's and the murder went unsolved for over 50 years. What finally got me? Two words: bootleg butter.
Reading Ice Moon and an ARC of Believing the Lie. Finished A Corpse's Nightmare: A Fever Devilin Novel which was very good, quite a bit of information about the jazz scene in New Orleans and Chicago.
I'm almost done with
. I'll finish it today. Then I'm going to start reading the next Michael Connelly book on my list, which is
.
