Have you read any other of the Rabbi series? I read them back in my university days (I think it was then) and enjoyed them very much. They also were made into tv movies that were quite good too as I recall.

Finished Serpent's Tale. Now on to Grave Gods. Am really enjoying the series. It's almost like one book with many of the same characters and several adventures. The reader is along as the main characters change and grow.

Agreed. I think that Trunk Music may be my favorite of the Harry Bosch series.

Almost finished with A Trick of the Lightwhich I loved. Like visiting old friends, of course there is a murder, but love her characters. Than reading The Leftovers which is getting mixed reviews but I love how Perotta writes. Also going to read The Ballad of Tom Dooley: A Novel which I'm hoping is good also. So glad McCrumb went back to her Appalachian stories.

Reading Rebellion by McGee at the moment, history, Paris 1812 and Matthew Hawkwood, love anything to do with the Napoleonic era.

I've started Jo Walton's Ha'penny, which is the second book in a trilogy. I loved the first book, Farthing, and this one is very good so far. Not a typical crime / thriller novel, it takes place in England in 1949. However, this is an England which made peace with Hitler in 1941 and is sliding towards becoming a fascist state. It's an interesting premise and the books are very well written.

Onto Grave Gods, #3 in Mistress of Death series. Not real far into it, but didn't quite start with the same bang for me that the other two did, which may not mean anything as plenty can happen still. But I think I may be getting a bit tired of Henry II, the lovely, tricky and pious Eleanor, and the oh-si-moral fanatics for the power of churchy, and the degree of privilege of the privilege. May need to take a break and read my next Donna Leon which is also home waiting for me.

Just finished "Killing the Blues", the Parker book written by Brandman. There was an obvious attempt to follow Parker's style but somehow, it just didn't quite get there.

Not sure if this was written using an outline that Parker had done for the book before his death or if it was Brandman's concept and writing throughout but I was disappointed.

I think copying Parker's style of writing as well as is wit will be next to impossible.

Personally I didn't like the last two books of the series as much as I had the first two, but they were still enjoyable. I'm going to miss being able to look forward to more books by the author.

Don't have an e-reader yet and English language books are hard to come by where I am, but found an old copy of David Baldacci's "Absolute Power" and am really enjoying it. What a great first chapter set -up!

Finished reading The Ballad of Tom Dooley: A Novel and it was a pretty bleak read but interesting reading the story behind the ballad. Now reading The Night Circus and am impressed and enthralled by this novel.

Finished Grave Goods and am on Murderous Procession, Ariana Franklin. As usual the story begins with her happily living in the fens with her loved little group whom you also know well by now, daughter growing and very much an individual in her own right when summons comes from Henry II to accompany his 10 year old daughter to her marriage to the King of Sicily in which she will be accompanied by her lover, but precious daughter must remain in England as a hostage. Furioso, but who wouldn't. And you're are also made aware of the vengeful surviving outlaw whose murderous partner Adelia killed in self defense in the last book and how he has promised his horned master that he will "get her!" And so starts my present book!

It has many twists and turns throughout. The women's lives had their own turns as well. The ending was unexpected which really made this book a good read. Most likely going to start for the mystery book club.

Read all of his books, and as with most series some are better than others. They are all interesting however, learn alot about art, and the mysteries are very good as well.

Just returned from a business trip and listened to Liars & Thieves which was wonderfully read with a touch of 'Joe Friday' tone. Also read Tyrannosaur Canyon. All in all, a good trip.

I, too, read all Daniel Silva's books, and I like them. The main character's mother is a Holocaust survivor and was a fine artist as well. Her story is pretty much told in the first of the series. The son chooses to become a restorer rather than an artist in his own right. He is also part of the intelligence fabric and one becomes well acquainted with the some of the key political and intelligence figures and nuances, past and present. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I do!
