I;m reading that off and on. When it came out I had about given up on Mr. Rennie Airth - it was taking so long for him to do a second book. But there is also a third now ... patiently waiting for me in the corner.

Janice Wegener | 53 comments Of all my favorite authors I have just started reading Michael Connlley (can you believe it)???? Anyway I started with Echo Park as I had it in my TBR pile now I am completly involved in Harry Bosch. Unfortunately our Borders here in Northern Illinois is closing but I was able to get all the MC books they had on the shelf including the Lincoln Lawyer which I just finished and enjoyed it no end. I will savor the rest of my MC books abd right now I am reading Painted Sisters by Robert Parker I believe this was his last book before he passed away. Have any of you all read the Alan Bradley series featuring Flavia de Luce, the unflappable eleven yr. old sleuth.
First was Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie. He has followed up with 2 more which are on my TBR shelf. I guess like the rest of you that pile just keeps growing with recommendations from you all and my own favorites.

message 2008: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimmr) I've just finished re-reading the Dorothy L Sayers novels featuring Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane and reading for the first time the Jill Paton Walsh continuations involving the same characters. Of the latter I enjoyed A Presumption of Death the most, and then The Attenbury Emeralds, which started out very good and then seemed to somewhat lose its way. Paton Walsh is not Sayers, but she channelled her quite successfully in re-creating Peter and Harriet, I think, so I can forgive her for not quite having Sayers' sparkle and wit!

Sally | 38 comments I just started Mistress of the Art of Death Mistress of the Art of Death (Mistress of the Art of Death, #1) by Ariana Franklin . I love historical mysteries so I hope this is a good one. I haven't read enough yet to have an opinion.

Don Ariff (arkenseal) | 15 comments Just finished A Prisoner of Birth by Jeffrey Archer its a top notch legal thriller! Currently reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson and Sister by Rosamund Lupton XD

message 2011: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Wallace (brendabwallace) | 2 comments Just finished A Perfect Canvas by Kevn Adkisson. A deeply chilling thriller that resonates long after the last page is turned. Nicholas Steele, a sadistic tattoo artist, is obsessed with skin, craving a flawless canvas for his scarification masterpieces. This book is fast paced and realistically terrifying. The descriptions involving the tattoos and scarification are so well done and so deeply researched that they are compelling, frightening, yet morbidly and artistically intriguing. The villain is all too creepy real. I understood his motivations and his fascination with his art enough to worry that someone like him was out there in the world. The main character, Paige, is also real, not painted as some fantasy female ninja, but someone who must try to survive by her guts, rage, and her wits. The heart of the story centers on the love between Paige and Eddie and what they are willing to do for each other despite the most horrifying circumstances. Eddie’s selflessness also draws you in and keeps you turning the pages. I was impressed with the author’s word choices and insights that often evoked vivid images and emotions, and found myself rereading phrases for pleasure. This is one of those memorable books you think back on and feel like you learned something. I always enjoy intelligent writing and this is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. I’m hooked and will be back for more from author Kevin Adkisson.

Disappointed with Sister? Was it bad or just wasn't your type Patricia? Although when it comes to the former, I only begin to understand from the 2nd chapter onwards...so yeah its kinda cool now. Except for the confusion of reading their names...

Doreen Dalesandro (agilecairn) | 43 comments Just finished listening to The Complaints by Ian Rankin. This is the first book I've read by Ian Rankin. I could not get into it. And it's not that it is bad; I think I was just not in the mood.

I am now listening to The Pawn by Steven James. It's about a serial killer and an FBI agent with a unique way of investigating crimes. So far it's really good.

Has anyone read The Eight by Katherine Neville? I'm thinking about buying it from Audible but I don't want to waste credits...

message 2019: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) I loved the eight but I read first her second book and afterwards the first one. Many people thought it was just good but I loved it. The best is her second, I was completely addicted to it.

I'm a big fan of the Tony Hillerman books. They inspired me to visit the area a few years ago and it was a wonderful trip.

Hi Kelly. They're well worth reading if you love Sayers, but it's best if your expectations are not too high. (And you should definitely read them in order!)

I read a number of those books ... until I remembered that I hate cats. Too many seemed relatively the same and my view of her writing had faded.

There were some interesting characters but the fact that there cats (the title should have tipped me off ) and I was losing interest in her writing made me stop.

Are they still being published? And Is she still alive?

Thanks Doreen, I will go for The Pawn first. I think that's what I wanted to do but have the JT Ellison book longer so had some guilt issues LOL

I should be finished with Laura Lippman's What The Dead Know this evening. I'm really enjoying it, both the story and the narration... it kept me awake way too late last night. Ah well, I tell myself now that reading into the wee hours is an advantage of a shorter work week!

message 2045: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9999 comments I finished Murder List bt Julie Garwood. It started off strong but then devolved too much into a romance for my taste...with minimal mystery/thriller elements. But if you like lots and lots of romance with your mysteries you might like it.

message 2046: by Carol (last edited Mar 29, 2011 07:13AM) (new)

Carol Neman | 81 comments Jan C...I don't know if Lillian Jackson Braun is still alive or not. Her last few books don't seem to be as vibrant as the earlier ones, and I wondered if she had a ghost writer. Also the photograph on the back flap of the later book jackets show her looking much older, 60's or 70's. She's been writing these since the 1960's, with a break in between of about 15 years or so, then resuming in mid-80's.

I like it that she gave the main character an inheritance of billions of dollars and changed his living location to the 'northwoods'. I guess I do like cats, the first one I read was The Cat Who Talked to Ghosts (I also like ghost stories, and mysteries so it sounded good on the library shelf). I also like it that there are a lot of little mundane every-day-life details, such as what he feeds the cats or what he has to eat himself, both at home and when he takes someone to dinner...many people abhor that sort of thing, but it sounds very 'homey' to me.

Bryan (bry422) | 29 comments Finished Hide by Lisa Gardner. I really enjoyed this book until she decided to kill it by revealing something in a manner that was just not fair to the reader, in my opinion.

Moving on to Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter by Tom Franklin today.
