Maryfox | 398 comments Didn't finish it, but I'm done with The The Beloved Dead by Tony Hays by Tony Hays. I just don't care for his writing style.

Maryfox | 398 comments Just finished The Sinner (Jane Rizzoli & Maura Isles, #3) by Tess Gerritsen by Tes Gerritson. This was my first reading of this author and I'll be reading much more of her I think. This is where she introduces Dr. Maura Isles to the series.

Kept me turning pages, but it was an easy read. I enjoyed it.

Bill Benjamin wrote: "Just finished Dissolution and loved it. I got the rec right here in this forum and very happy I followed up. Hard to do better in a historical mystery novel."

The series gets better too; he definitely has found himself with Matthew Shardlake. I hope you read and enjoy the rest.

I'm a huge Michael Connelly fan and have read all his books so far. I've found that unlike other authors his standards haven't slipped and each book is a pleasure to read. With one exception, I found Nine Dragons to be a bit of a dud although it does set things up for later books.

T (twoo) Finished Jo Nesbo's Devil Star last night and started Kathy Reichs' Flash and Bones this morning.

First Nesbo I've read and looking forward to Snowman....it was a bit confusing for me, with Scandinavian terms and names and locations, but not too bad.

Reichs will be a fast read.

I love Michael Connelly too. Have read all his books, in fact, starting his latest, "The Drop", today. Finished Stephen Hunter's "Soft Target" last night. Read it in 1 day, so you know it wasn't boring!

Tay | 261 comments Finished The Confession by John Grisham . Wow, what a great read. It felt very real. It was heartbreaking, sad, disturbing, some great humor, so many emotions. An eye opener for sure.

I am now reading The Hard Way (Jack Reacher, #10) by Lee Child

If you liked that one, you'll love
The Surgeon (Jane Rizzoli & Maura Isles, #1) by Tess Gerritsen and The Apprentice (Jane Rizzoli & Maura Isles, #2) by Tess Gerritsen .

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 10002 comments I'm reading The Man from Beijing by Henning Mankell. As has been mentioned before this book doesn't contain the detective Wallender as a character; in fact the story is quite different from other Mankell books I've read.

Bill I finished Black Plumes by Margery Allingham and enjoyed very much; it was an excellent British mystery. I'm half way through Knights of the Black and White and am enjoying even though I still find myself wondering where the story will lead. I'm about to start a Scandanavian mystery by Karin Alvtegen; Shadow

Sharon Michael | 674 comments Just finished News from Dead Mule Swamp

This one I got strictly because of the title and I enjoyed it. Nicely crafted, easy read with a very accurate 'small town' feel to it. I liked the characters and the plot moved along well. Having lived in a small community myself most of my life the fact that the plot that had its roots in events two generations earlier worked well for me.

Shawn Davis (shawndavis) | 46 comments I finished a bunch of books on the way to Hawaii and back. How To Think Like a Neandertal was fascinating and not too hard to read, The Return of Sherlock Holmes was a re-read and always a favorite, Moloka'i was an incredible book, and didn't strike me as despairing and hopeless as some of the reviews had said (although it is very sad), and Loose Ends was a good, easy read in the airport when our original flight home was cancelled due to weather.

I'm looking for some more non-fiction at the moment, but I have no idea what I want to read about. That really doesn't help. :)

Hi Shawn I'm not a big non-fiction reader but I recently read Talking About Detective Fiction by P. D James. It was a quick read and I especially enjoyed her insights into the "classics" of British detective fiction, Christie, Marsh, Allingham, etc.

message 5387: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 10002 comments I finished The Man from Beijing by Henning Mankell. This was a different kind of book from Mankell compared to his Wallender mysteries. It starts off pretty dramatically with almost all the people in a Swedish village slaughtered....but soon meanders off into some aspects of Chinese history and Chinese politics. Not really my kind of story.

Sandra | 238 comments I'm reading Body Double (Jane Rizzoli & Maura Isles, #4) by Tess Gerritsen , from the Rizzoli & Isles series by Tess Gerritsen. As I always say, love a good series, & this one is good. I read the first in the series, The Surgeon (Jane Rizzoli & Maura Isles, #1) by Tess Gerritsen with a Goodreads Group & got hooked! I want to try the television series inspired by the books after I get through all the books.

Sandra | 238 comments hahaha wrote: "The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank"

I've been watching an Anne Frank video with my 14 year old daughter. It is, of course, heartbreaking. When my daughter studied this period in time at school, it really interested her, so I took her to the Halicaust Museum in Dallas. We met a survivor, listened to him speak, & purchased a book he'd written. He had a number tattooed on his forearm, & it was hard to look him in the eye. I had to keep reminding myself that I, personally, wasn't responsible for what he'd been through; I felt so incredibly sad listening to him speak & could think of nothing to say in response. At one point, my daughter ran into a nearby restroom & threw up. I cried (not typical of me, especially publically) during a film that told of a man leaving his baby son at a stranger's house because he had been too heavy to carry any further as they were fleeing on foot. The man wasn't able to return as quickly as he thought & when he finally did years later, he couldn't remember which house & never found his son again. Julia & I are both glad we went & would like to return someday even though we both left feeling incredible weight upon us.

TK421 (willymammoth) I just finished All I Did Was Shoot My Man by Walter Mosley. It's the fourth Leonid McGill novel, a series of hardboiled style mystery novels featuring an African American P.I. named (what else?) Leonid McGill. I really enjoyed this one and will be seeking out more works by Mosley in the future. If you're interested you can find my review of the book here.

It's shaping up to be one of my favourites too, Veronica. I'm kind of glad that I've been reading the books in order, 'cos I only read O Jerusalem a few weeks ago and the characters from that novel are still fresh in my mind. I'm finding this particular book very moving and keep wanting to give several of the characters a big hug!

Berna I have just finished the Body in the Library by Agatha Christie. It is a classic and one of the best of Christie novels.
