65 is a great number. I am at 62. And you are only 10 away from your goal...lol I am only a mere 42 books from my goal....so definitely Not gonna make it!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I am trying to see how close I can still come, lol. I have a friend whose goal is 200 for next year. I could NEVER do that!

200 wow?? I know the most I have done was 95 and that was back in 2005. My mom read lots and has gotten I think to the 100 mark before possibly over. One of her best friends was in the the triple digits last year...so it can be done...just havent found the trick to it yet.

Mine this year was 60. I doubt I will make it. I know I am at 53 but I am still writing my paper. It is due on 12/13. I will try to cram as much as I can before 1/1!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I really want to go for 100 next year, but I am afraid to.

message 106: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments Just add audiobooks, thinner books, and GN's to your list and you could make 100 for sure Lyn!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) LOL, Colleen. I am actually reading some shorter, faster books this month to try to get in p so that I make my 75! And I do have at least one Graphic Novel.

message 108: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments I haven't read a GN in forever, I have mostly been focusing on audiobooks especially to catch up on classics (and so-called classics) as well as raise my numbers. I finally got back into my audible.com account and they just had a huge $4 book sale so I just bought a bunch!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I just got a Nook and bought 100 classics bundled in two 50 title bunches for 5.00. But I still have to read them, lol. I can't just listen.

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments My bf lives about 30min away so whenever I visit him that gives me an hour of listening time. There are some books I find hard to focus on reading but can easily focus on them when they are being read to me. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is that way for me, I read about 20p and set it down then just couldn't pick it back up. I am listening to it right now and am nearly done with it.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) That is great. And what a good way to pass the 30 minute drives. For some reason, I just can't listen to a book. It always makes me feel sleepy, lol.

message 112: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments I sometimes listen to audiobooks as I go to sleep too, I always look at where I am right before I drift off so I don't lose my spot.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) It keeps me from doing what I did last night. I fell asleep with my Nook and it fell and hit me in the mouth. Now I have a fat lip, lol.

message 114: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments That actually made me lol Lyn! I hope your lip feels better soon though!

message 115: by [deleted user] (new)

Lyn I cant believe I only saw this post now!
I'm such a sucker for a challenge... I find myself joining in everywhere...

I'm supposed to read 100 books for the year, and I'm currently at 86, so I doubt I'll make it...

Colleen, maybe I should also take your advice and listen to some audiobooks :)

Thanks for sharing! I really did LOL. I can't wait to see the new warning labels for e-readers.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I know. Thanks to me all people with e-readers will be forbidden from reading them in bed, lol.

message 118: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments Hehe!!! Lyn I did the same thing the other night with my Kindle!!!!!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Well, ALy, at least now I don't feel alone, lol.

message 120: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments hehe!!!! I felt like such an idiot when it woke me up.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Me too!

message 122: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments Niecole, I find some books easier to get through in audio format; some of the classics for instance.

message 123: by [deleted user] (new)

I'd have to agree with you there Colleen!

message 124: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments When I was reading Sunne in Splendour, I used the text to speech function on my Kindle because it was easier sometimes for me to get into the story if someone else was reading it. Even if it did sound like a creepy computer voice LOL

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I am halfway done with book number 70 and 71 both. Maybe I can still make mine. I have a GN slated for 72 and should finish The Stand which would be 73. I just need to find 2 more quick and fast reads!

message 126: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments Start combing your book collection for the thinnest books possible then!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I am doing just that!

message 128: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments Have you read The Lady and the Unicorn yet? I'm reading it now. It's thin, easy to get through and not bad. I'm enjoying it so far.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I have that one on my TBR, Jennifer. It may be one of the last two that I read. I have Naked Heat, which is the second Richard Castle book. the last one took me a little over a day to read, so it should do.

message 130: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments I have faith in you Lyn, you will make your goal if you read like a fury in the next two weeks!

message 131: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments I have faith in you too!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) If I could just get a chance to read. Been running so much the last few days, but I actually think I am going to make it. I am getting excited. Thanks for the support and faith, guys.

message 133: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments Always Lyn, that's what reading buddies and friends are for after all!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I actually thought that I could get two more books in, but with all of the family around, it was not meant to be. I made 73, though, so not so bad.

ON TO 2011!!

message 135: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments Very close to your goal indeed! So what is our banned book for Jan. going to be? BTW, I got my non-fic Borgia book in the mail finally!

message 136: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments 73 is fantastic Lyn! Congrats :)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Thanks guys, I'm happy with 73.

Not sure what are banned book for Jan should be. Any suggestions? I'll take a look at the list when I get back from Corvallis on Tues and see if I have any suggestions.

message 138: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments I have been thinking of Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston which I picked up in a used book store a few months ago and have been wanting to read. Jen and my friend Maranda and I are going to BR Lady Chatterley's Lover in Feb. if you are interested in joining in. OR I was thinking you could do the banned book pick in Jan. and we could rotate months.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I would love to do Lady Chatterly's Lover in Feb and Their Eyes Were Watching God this month. Let's go with them. If you want to rotate, we can start that in March, but frankly, I am up for almost anything, so I am not worried about who picks. I'll let you know when I find my copy of Their Eyes.

message 140: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments Sounds good to me, just let me know when you get Their Eyes and I will start reading it when you do :)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Sounds great.
