Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) They were brutal. In fact, I was sitting outside on the deck one day reading the book, and I must have fallen asleep and dropped the book at least three times. I usually find that is the case with a lot of non-fiction history books as the author is trying to introduce all the players and situations. I have learned, though, just to plug through them.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I just finished Rush Home Road: A Novel by Lori Lansens. This is the first of her books that I have read, but they come highly recommended. I will certainly say that this one did not disappoint. It is a very poignant story about a women's look back on her life, and her love for a little girl who literally left on her doorstep. I was actually disappointed when the book ended as I was enjoying reading about the main characters so much. I am eagerly anticipating read this author's other two books.

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments I am thinking of getting Marie at the library today so I can try to catch up on my gr. I have caught up on posts and gr at THL but I am kind of scared to go over to AHoR to catch up on posts since I know there will be so many.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Ya, and there are a couple from your favorite person, who is just SO MUCH fun. I miss you over there, though. I am really slogging slowly through Marie, but it is really good, but not an easy read like Thomas Cromwell.

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments So I caught up and I know what you mean, Jen and I had a little crab fest about that. Specificall the nominations for the next group read, Jen just wants to say to her "Oh I'm sorry, did I make you a moderator and forget???" Geez!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I almost made a snide comment, but I didn't!

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments OMG I know, I wanted to so bad because I hate it when people are rude for no reason especially to my friends.

message 60: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments Jennifer made me feel better too. She has officially changed the rules LOL.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Good for her, I was suggesting that we do that. I hope my note to you conveyed my support of you and not her. And of course, Tina came to the rescue, so all is good!

message 65: by Lyn (Readinghearts) (last edited Jul 06, 2010 08:11PM) (new)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I am still at he Coronation, but planning on reading a lot during the next few days, so should catch up quickly, although you are probably done by now, but I should be done later this week.

Aly - you did answer me, I just wanted to make sure all was all right.

message 66: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments I am not done yet, Jennifer and I are trying to read it together and I got ahead of her again so I have to stop reading for a couple days and just read MA for now. I have more time to read than she does... maybe too much time LOL

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) In MA I am just starting Chapter Twelve, Fulfilling Their Wishes. In thtc I am just starting The Death of A Queen.

message 68: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments In MA I am on "Arrest the Cardinal!" and in thtc I am on "The Prince Discovers his Conscience".

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I am trying to catch up, but haven't had much time to read. I will be working on it today though!

message 70: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments That's great! Keep me posted where you are at and you will catch up to mee in time.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Wow, I just finished my 47th book. I am almost to 50. I am so excited!! Thanks to all my GR friends I have read some great books.

Wow! Did you start in Jan?

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I did, before I got to this group, but I already had a goal and started then. I have been reading so much this year. I hardly ever watch TV anymore, lol. Last year I think I only read 28 books for the whole year.

I'm trying to make 75 this year.

I have no doubts! Congrats!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Thanks.

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments Congrats Loves!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I finished Cranberry Queen over the weekend. One more before Shanghai Girls.

As for CQ, I'm giving it a 3.5 or even 3.75, almost a 4. I liked it a lot, great characters and story line, I just got a little frustrated with Diana in the middle of the book. I can see why she wanted to hide what was going on, but at one point I wanted to slap her and yell "gets some Cajones, girl!". Probably because I see a lot of myself in that behavior and don't like when I do that, lol. I thought the ending was really good though.

message 78: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments Wow, great job, Lyn!!!! I'm about caught up with Colleen again which makes me feel good LOL. I know you can make it to 75 this year!!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Thanks Aly. I am sort of surprised at myself, and if my husband knew, he would probably shoot me, lol.

message 80: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments Way to go Aly, though it makes me feel like I need to read faster, LOL. I swear Sunne is the last big book I am reading this year!

message 81: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments I can't seem to stay away from the huge books. I just started reading another 800 pg book. In the last five months, I've read some of the biggest books ever LOL. I'm a super fast reader, but I need to lay off some of these epic novels haha!!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) What is the latest one?

I am almost finished with Confessions, and I have to say, the French court just may be my new fave!

message 83: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments It's called The Crimson Petal and the White. It's about a prostitute in Victorian England. And so far, it is one the best books I have ever read. Some references are little nasty for my taste, but for the most part, the writing is awesome! Faber wrote it like he was giving the reader a tour through these people's lives. It's really neat!! I started reading it in lieu of THL's soon to be new group read LOL. that PG book is slow to start. I hope it picks up.

What do you think of Confessions so far? I think the French court may be my new favorite too!!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I LOVE it. I have decided that I will probably read everything C.w. writes. There is so much action, intrigue, and backstabbing in this book. WOW!!. I also really want to read more about Margot, Henri of Navarre, Charles and Henri Valois. I wonder if there are any books about Coligny. I would love to hear his side of the story. \

Enough gushing.

The Crimson Petal and the White is supposed to be great. I have it, but I have not read it yet, lol. I will get to it someday. Did you know it is on the 1001 books you must read before you die?

message 85: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments I sense a BR Lyn! I have CPatW too and have been wanting to read it but can't stomach another big book right now, lol.

I have always been fascinated by the French court too. I defs want to learn more abou Catherine de Medici now that I have read C.W.'s book!

message 86: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments I wanna read all of C.w.'s stuff too!! I really enjoyed that book!!! CPatW is turning into a really quick read despite its size. It's super easy to get into.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Colleen - should we add it to our 2011 list?

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments I'm not even sure I have heard of it before Aly started reading it but I'll find it. It sounds awesome and Aly's giving it great reviews :)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments That's good to know Aly, makes me look forward to it even more.

Lyn, lets add it to our 2011 BR list then!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Sounds perf. It is on my list for 2011

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments Which one, Aly?

I found a couple the other day, as well. I have them on hold though and can't remember which ones they are but I know there's 3 of them. One I actually brought home with me was The Sixth Wife by Suzannah Dunn.

Edit: found out the other ones I have on hold. New Worlds, Lost Worlds: The Rule of the Tudors, 1485-1603 by Susan Brigden, The Tudor Age by Jasper Ridley and Mary Tudor: The Spanish Tudor by H.F.M. Prescott. And they're all in great condition :)

message 97: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments The Tudors
I haven't had a chance to really delve into it yet, but it covers Henry VII all the way to Elizabeth I. It's huge LOL

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Oh no, more books to add to my wish list!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I just finished number 65, so I still have to read 10 by the end of December. I don't think I am going to make it. :(

message 100: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments 65 is still a fantastic number though Lyn!
