Melanie Harries (melanieharries) Just finished 'One Day' by David Nicholls. Holy crapsacks.
Moving on to 'Smiles To Go' by Jerry Spinelli because I can't handle anymore heartbreak at this moment.

kathrine (scarlettshea) | 391 comments I have to read a Newbery award/honor book. I wanted to read Turtle In Paradise but someone else chose it! So I got a book called Caddie Woodlawn. Has anyone ever read it? I'm on page 15 and I already hate it!
Turtle in Paradise by Jennifer L. Holm
Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I've heard of Caddie Woodlawn, but I've never read it. My sister got it for Christmas but never read it. (She's weird like that). There are many good Newbery Award/Honor books out there. Can you change your book? If you can and want to (and if someone else hasn't taken it already), I would HIGHLY recommend Shannon Hale's Princess Academy. It's one of my ALL-TIME favorite books. :)

message 1705: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments I enjoyed Caddie Woodlawn when I read it. It's not the most exciting of books but it's cute.

message 1706: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments I liked Caddie Woodlawn, although I didn't love it. Age might affect that too...How old are you?

message 1707: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) I'm starting both Unwind by Neal Shusterman and Forever by Maggie Stiefvater.

message 1708: by [deleted user] (new)

Still working through Her Fearful Symmetry. It's gotten really triggery, so I can't read it as much as I would like to. (Definitely gone down from 4 stars to 3.5 stars.)

message 1710: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Sphinx's Queen by Esther Friesner

message 1711: by Rebekah Faith (last edited Jun 01, 2011 12:11PM) (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Way: I love Esther Friesner's books. :) "Nobody's" and "Sphinx's" were great. ;)

Amelia: Did you happen to get an ARC of Forever?

message 1712: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Oh. Rae! I'm also reading Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen.
You really like her books, right?

message 1713: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Hahah, yes I do. :) I'm reading What Happened to Goodbye right now. It's her latest.

message 1714: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Ooh. That is the one with the girl standing on the suitcase on the cover, right?
I've been meaning to read that one.

message 1715: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Yep! It sure is! It can out like 3 weeks ago. I've been waiting to read it since Christmas. It's really good so far.

message 1716: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Hmmm.
The library near my house has an impossible lack of Sarah Dessen books.
I think I need to go to the big downtown library. The one that has two or three stories.
I think I might make it my mission to read Sarah Dessen this summer.

message 1717: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments That was my mission last summer- I made it through all of them. :) (Of course, I had already read like 3 of the 9, but still.)

message 1718: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Well, I'd never heard of here til this spring so...
I haven't read any of them :D
But I intend to remedy that.

message 1719: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments You need to. Her writing (in my opinion) is impeccable.

message 1720: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid As soon as I finish the one I'm reading, I will post in the Sarah Dessen topic with my opinion.
I will say this much: I like it a lot so far.

message 1721: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Hahah, I think my least favorite was probably Dreamland- i just couldn't relate in some way.

message 1722: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Rereading Jellicoe Road.

I have Keeping the Moon, and I still haven't read it. Is that one any good?

message 1723: by kathrine (new)

kathrine (scarlettshea) | 391 comments I switched books and now Im reading Princess Academy. It's really good so far.
Princess Academy by Shannon Hale

message 1724: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Scarlettshea- It's one of my favorites. Shannon Hale is one of my all-time favorite authors.

Taylor- yeah, it's great. :)

message 1725: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Yup! Shannon Hale is amazing.
I love PA (Princess Academy.)

message 1726: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments PA is probably my favorite of hers. Everything was so well-written!

message 1727: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments I don't think I've ever read anything by Shannon Hale...

message 1728: by Jordan (last edited Jun 02, 2011 12:08AM) (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments You should really fix that, Taylor. The writing is awesome, and the guys are almost Austen-ish. Plus she has a book called Austenland (not a kids book. I haven't read it yet.)

I read Princess Academy and Goose Girl to my sister in the last few months. She wants me to read Enna Burning, but it's a bit intense, so we're reading Howl's Moving Castle now. Other than that, I'm reading How to Read a Book in preparation for a class I'm most likely taking next year. I've already read it, but my mom wants me to read it again.

Would you mind recommending something of hers for me? I've heard her name but I'm not too familiar with any of her stories.

I could read Jellicoe Road a hundred times and never be bored of it. :)

I've read Austenland. :) It was pretty good. Different since it wasn't a kid's book, but I really liked it. THen she has a sequel coming out, Midnight in Austenland.

message 1733: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid I liked Austenland, it was different than her children's books. Definitely.
It was still really good though. I can't wait for Midnight in Austenland!

message 1734: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Midnight is gonna be a good one. ;)

Finished What Happened to Goodbye. AMAZING! Now I'm rereading THG

message 1735: by Ingrid (new)

That's good!

Way-chan (Aspiring Author) wrote: "The Hunger Games? Am I correct?"

You are. :)

WHAT HAPPENED TO GOODBYE isn't quite my favorite one, those would be Someone Like You, The Truth about Forever, and Along for the Ride, but it ranks about where Just Listen does. (which is like, favorite #4)

message 1738: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments Taylor wrote: "Would you mind recommending something of hers for me? I've heard her name but I'm not too familiar with any of her stories. "

Hmm. I think the first one I read was Princess Academy. It has a slightly younger audience than the Books of Bayern. I'd start with The Goose Girl. And because I don't like the goodreads blurb, here's the one from the back of the book (which still doesn't quite do it justice).

"Some people are born with the first word of a language resting on their tongue, though it may take some time before they can taste it.
***
Anidori-Kiladra Talianna Isilee, Crown Princess of Kildenree, was born with her eyes closed and a word on her tongue. She spent the early years of her life listening to her aunt's stories and learning the language of the swans. Then, a colt was born with a word on his tongue–his name, Falada–and when Ani spoke it, she found the key to his language, too. But as Ani's gift grew, so did others' mistrust of it, and soon her mother felt she had no choice but to send her away to be queen of a foreign land."

message 1739: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid I'd also recommend Book of a Thousand Days
It is also a fairytale retelling and it is quite good. I'd think you'd enjoy it. It's about a mucker- Dashti- a lady's maid and her adventures.

message 1740: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I actually didn't like Book of a Thousand Days as much. And PA has a slightly younger directed audience, but I enjoyed it a lot. I go back and reread it every so often and I still love it. :)

message 1741: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Well, Book of a Thousand Days isn't my favorite, no that is saved for BoB, but B1000 is still better than the average book and is still enjoyable.

Agreed. Book of a Thousand Days was semi-boring, but Princess Academy had some interesting ideas that were really well executed.
