Hannah Montana has been removed, though I highly doubt that Miley Cyrus actually wrote any of those songbooks. Should the author be listed as the songwriters, NAB, or Songbook?

Gone.

message 365: by Heather (new)

Heather (creaturefromthesea) | 831 comments A question about this author. There appears to be two David Tennants; one is a technical writer with two books, the other, a narrator of Shakespearean plays and Doctor Who novels. The question is, should the authors be disambiguated, or should the narrator not be counted as an author in the first place?

Narrators count as authors, so the former.

Angie (just-me) | 54 comments I am a librarian, but don't know how to combine authors. The following three authors are the same person:
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

I'm not entirely sure that there isn't a second Robert Fulton. But "One Man Caravan" ( http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/14... ) was written by Robert Edison Fulton Jr.

It looks like most of the books under the second author are not from the first. But the first and thirs are the same person. Edit each of them to be the same (I suggest editing both to the most complete form, "Robert Edison Fulton Jr."). The second one you edit will require you to confirm the merging of the two authors and select the one you want to keep. (If either were correct as is, you'd only need to edit one and then confirm the merge.)

Then move up the correct author on that book and delete the incorrect one.

Oh, and edit the author on individual books of author two that ought to really be author one/three, or v.v.

message 369: by Angie (new)

Angie (just-me) | 54 comments It's possible that this book is also Robert Edison Fulton Jr. He also invented the the skyhook retrieval system for military airplanes. But I have no real idea, it doesn't seem to fit with the death books of the other robert fulton.

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/50...

I think I have the the author for "One Man Cravan" corrected to Robert Edison Fulton Jr., but it seems to have left Robert Edison Fulton existing with no books: http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

Unlikely, since WorldCat says it's a reprint of a book first published in 1810.

I cleaned up the authors. Editing a single book only changes the author on that book; editing the author record changes it on all the books, and if edited to another existing version, allows you to merge the two authors.

These need to be separated - they are two separate individuals. I'm not sure why these were ever combined.
*goes to sort this out a bit*

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Kiri, that's not the right way to separate authors with the same name. You can find instructions on how to do it in the librarian manual. (Edited to add: actually, that section is due to be updated. Here are the most current instructions. Sorry for the confusion!)

message 373: by Angie (new)

Angie (just-me) | 54 comments Rivka,
then it is definitely not the same Robert Fulton as the death and dying books, since they range in date from 1973 - 2007. Possibly the 2007 book http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/48... is yet another Robert Fulton since it seems to vary in subject and publishing date. the others are 70s and 80s.

Thank you for cleaning up the Robert Edison Fulton Jr. thing for me, I was confused about how to do that correctly.

and one Robert Edison Fulton Jr.:

Took care of the first three; there's too many on the last two, even though I'm fairly sure they're really all NAB's.

I started on the English textbooks listed under this author using WorldCat (actual author "Philippe Dominique"), but it looks like three of the remaining ones have bad ISBNs. Those are:

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/82...
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/82...
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/82...

There are titles in WorldCat that match, but the ISBNs are different and I didn't want to change the ISBN in case these records auto-imported from somewhere. What should I do in this case?

And while I was at it I discovered another single name "author":

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

That one just seems to be titles with multiple authors.
