Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 106 comments "Batman" is apparently actually Stephen Batman (source). I did a little cleanup there. Almost disappointing. ;)

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 106 comments One of those Alfreds is a graphic artist; another is Alfred (King of England). Anyone know if this is how we handle royalty without a modern-style family name?

I would list him as Alfred the Great. LoC agrees.

message 557: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl Did someone decide these Books LLC compilations should be Nabbed?

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/84...

I hate them, but they have pages and text so I think they're still books.

message 558: by Melody (new)

Melody (runningtune) | 13300 comments I've been un-not a booking several of the Books LLC that I've found. I think the last discussion said they were books. I hate it too - but I agree, Lobstergirl, they are books. What I don't know is if the people who have rated them really read these books or the books the articles are about.

message 559: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl I don't think we have any way of knowing, but in the end it doesn't matter why someone rates something, right? I wish there was a way to figure out who was Nabbing incorrectly because they're creating more work for others.

I've been working on this for awhile & am burned out. Haven't found an actual William S. Wilson yet, many were other Wilsons, some not even Wilson at all.

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 106 comments Wow — that was pretty messed up. I've changed all the ones that belonged to other people to reflect the correct authors. But I suspect that the remaining books belong to more than one William S. Wilson. So if anyone wants to try to disambiguate them, that's probably the next step.

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments John (and this one looks like it's sweeping up a whole bunch of name variations in the co-authors).

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 106 comments The "nn" one linked by Heather could use some help from Indonesian and German speakers.

Also, "John" ... that's a hot mess, as the kids say these days. ;) The LoC seems to use "John Paul II, Pope, 1920-2005" in its catalogue. On Goodreads would we use "John Paul II"? (I think there are at least four profiles for this pope, under different name/title variations. Maybe more.)

willaful Betty Smith: http://www.goodreads.com/author/list/...

I'm pretty sure some of the books listed here are a different Betty Smith. Possibly more than one, since so many genres are represented. Amusing to imagine the canonical writer of growing up in New York stories also covering Warwickshire. :-)

ETA: I found this useful link at LibraryThing: http://www.librarything.com/author/sm...

Apparently there are five of them. Oy!

message 570: by Kaion (last edited Jul 18, 2010 08:31PM) (new)

Kaion (kaionvin) At least three different Kate Thompson authors: http://www.goodreads.com/author/list/...

1. http://www.katethompson.info/books.asp Kate Thompson
2. http://www.kate-thompson.com/ Kate Thompson
3. ?

I think I've separated most of #2's books out, but can't be sure. Don't really know about 3-?

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 106 comments This sort of is, and sort of isn't, an author that needs help. More like a series, except that they all have the same corporate author (I think), who is not always listed. I am not certain if all the books have the same series editor(s), Leslie Wilson and Paul Matsudaira.

Sadly, the corporate author (the American Society for Cell Biology) does not seem to provide a complete list. The best I've been able to find are the Worldcat series listing and this Amazon list, which may or may not have duplicates and/or false positives.

One note: if you decide to work on this, and you add Leslie Wilson to a book's author listing, make sure that it's Leslie^^^Wilson, as there are five other authors by the same name.

Another issue: Many of these books seem to have Kindle editions, but because the author listings are not congruent, they are not always combined in the GR database.

I don't know if this is something it might be better to punt on until we have series objects in Goodreads proper, but I thought I'd put it out there.

Kaion (kaionvin) Re: post 577
There's no special "role" for screenwriting, yes? (Because I don't see it as one of the ones listed)
*I think someone already fixed it because Owen Wilson is down for co-writing both of the screenplays listed.

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 106 comments Michael Krüger (Mostly German and English, 1 Russian item. I suspect there are at least two authors here but am not certain.)

Candida Höfer

And, of course, Collectif and Collectifs. (Knowledge of French probably helpful.)

I'm not sure what to do about this. I've exhausted my resources for finding out individual authors/editors on this one. Should it just be listed as being by Dun & Bradstreet? This one's fixed, thanks Rivka.

Actually, decoding the author list from Amazon isn't too bad, if you go back there to find the bits that got cut off. I fixed that one.

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 106 comments Hmm, looking at the Amazon listing again, I guess it's not as bad as I first thought. I just (a) hate guessing and (b) am somewhat reluctant to rely on Amazon listings now that I know how inaccurate they can be.

These author profiles are empty, please delete:
Brontes
Bronte Bronte

** EDIT: Sorry, I forgot I can merge them with any other Brontë profile that's correct. Done! Getting there slowly but surely. :)

Don't know how to handle this one:
Bronte
It has a book that I don't know. It has ISBN but WorldCat doesn't know it. GoogleBooks finds a hit but no further info, same on Amazone (which is the source).

This site refers to the author as EMI Bronte. It's rather a long shot to dedicate it to Emily Brontë, I think. Hope to find a Brontë lover here to help out!

Any sugestions?

(Hopefully I found the right thread for this post!)

Publisher/author:

Carlton Books = 80 works / co-authors listed
Carlton Books Staff = 10 works / co-authors listed
Carlton Books, Limited = 1 work / magazine?
Carlton Books LTD. = 2 works / non fiction / other authors listed
Carlton Books UK = 1 work / non fiction
Carlton Books Ltd = 2 works / non fiction
Carlton = 5 works / non fiction

Not sure on this one:
Carlton's book = 1 work

Snail in Danger (Sid) Nicolaides (upsight) | 106 comments Hey Laura,

I checked Worldcat for books called Brass Halo and found a couple. However, this one is called that and was published by Signet. I went ahead and made the change in the database.
