This is a somewhat trickier author problem.

We have a Goodreads author http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/... (Morgan Ashbury) and a second author profile http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/... (Morgan Ashbury), who is the same person and the spelling is the same. They are not disambiguated as far as I could tell.

The second one has 2 editions of 1 book listed, neither with details but with quite a few ratings.

As the spelling is already the same, how do we combine authors and can we at all as the first one is a GR author? Then the 2 non books need to be combined with the correct ones already listed.

The author profile with 1 book has ^^ spaces. As the other profile is a a GR author, you need to change the book author and have the other profile deleted

I went through posts 296 through 302. The ones that are left appear to be legitmate authors or pseudonymns, with a couple I just couldn't track down.

I've fixed second Morgan Ashbury's books, which does have 2 spaces, (don't know how I missed that). Will get a super to delete the one left in the appropriate thread.

I seem to remember reading somewhere last week that you change the bad author to something like 'unkown', is that correct?

While there are three different authors (the books in German, the Arctic diary, and the various items from the state of Georgia), all books are correct as-is, and there's no way to separate single-name authors.

good morning.
not so good, it happens. woke up and found myself purged from GR, together with lots of my colleague translators. a recent example in god knows how many:

it used to have not one author (Thomas Pynchon) but 4, according to what now appears to be the obsolete set of rules: Томас Пинчон (in the language the book is translated to, to facilitate the search for russian-speaking GR members), and 2 translators: Sergey Slobodyanyuk and Nikolay Makhlayuk. now they are no more. i didn't find any traces of this change in the librarian log. i didn't find any changes to the rules in the librarian manual.

by extension, the author status with this social network for me and some of my colleagues is covertly revoked. i was not warned in any way of this change so it was quite nasty surprise when i saw that my page evaporated.

please clarify if this is the way it will be done from now on, and the info on non-english books should be presented in an incomplete way, or will someone please roll back all this changes apparently done in much haste.

i don't believe the jihad against "incorrectly represented books" should be done this way. sorry for whining.

I see no record of who or how this happened, so I think it must be some kind of error. I am not aware of any decision by either Goodreads Powers-That-Be or here among the Librarians Group that would have led to this being deliberately done. And you can be quite certain that the GR PTB would have notified affected authors BEFORE doing such a thing, if it has been decided.

I will pass this along to the relevant people.

i hope it will be sorted out soon. i hope it can be rolled back. i hope this was a technical error. a lot of what we hoped was good work is canceled by this je ne sais quoi. i spent the entire morning trying to find out what happened, and this thread seemed to be the only relevant place to find an answer.

The librarian change log for that edition lists the last update as 16 days ago but the book page itself lists the last update as 1 day ago (12:31am if that helps).

i mean, i'm not insisting on _my_ author status (it was nice while it lasted but really i'm just a translator), but i was all for accuracy. we tried hard to comply, you know.
in the meantime, i noticed some book entries unexplainhably disappear, too. hope it's also technical.

It was created by a user who uploaded a cover which appears to say "Shakespeare's Songbook" -- can anyone contact the user to ask about this? Zie's a librarian with a private profile....

This "author's" first work seems to have been written a year before she was born. Thinking the user and the author are not the same person.

Anthropology and History are my academic fields - I'll check on this and get it solved.

I have done so, and taken care of the other Shakespeare books that showed up (all of which really were William Shakespeare), and gone after the dozen mis-entered books from the user who created that odd one. Something about the fact that the cover and title should match seems to have missed her. :P
