The Book of Love was a completely different story, I kept falling asleep after reading a chapter of it. I expected it to be Davinci Code-escque but it went a little too heavily on the preachy side for me.

5.8 Communication Word Title
*A Child Called "It" by Dave Pelzer - READ 3.30.10
RATING: 4 stars
I'm glad I finally got around to reading this story. Heartbreaking!
20.7 Time to Declutter
A. Declutter Item
*The Lost Boy: A Foster Child's Search for the Love of a Family by Dave Pelzer - READ 4.1.10
RATING: 4 stars
This is the second book in Pelzer's trilogy. It's amazing what this boy endured.
B. The little boy on the cover and the title of "the lost boy" remind me that my boys have grown in to young men. One is graduating from college and the other is graduating from high school. It's time for me to clean out some of their boyhood things. Some will be donated and other things I need to organize and store away for them.
30.1 Spring Fling
A. "Spring" Title
The Thing About Jane Spring by Sharon Krum - READ 3.27.10
RATING: 3.5 stars
I had a hard time finding a book with the word "spring" in the title that I wanted to read. This one appealed to me because the female protagonist changed her life by modeling herself after Doris Day. The book was kind of sappy and farfetched but it was a fun, light read. Who wouldn't want to aspire to be Doris Day playing against Rock Hudson or Cary Grant?
B. "Fling, Toss or Throw" Title
Wild Women Throw a Party: 110 Original Recipes & Amazing Menus for Birthday Bashes, Power Showers by Lynette Shirk - GOODREADS AUTHOR - READ 3.23.10
RATING: 4 stars
I liked the stories of the "wild women" more so than the actual party plans, although there were some good recipes. Each party plan told some history and anecdotes of featured women, like Dorothy Parker, Zelda Fitzgerald, and Sara Jessica Parker.

Permanent Midnight: A Memoir by Jerry Stahl (5 stars)
Stahl tells the most raw, vivid, and darkly comic story of addiction I have ever read. The predicaments he finds himself in, while attempting to "cop" heroin, crack, and Dalaudid, are too crazy to be made-up.
From his story, I learned that some heroin addicts are "functioning". He states, " At school, I really learned how to do drugs: all the time, and like I wasn't doing them at all." He went to school and work, while strung out on smack and other drugs. He brought home $5000 per week as a television writer at the same time he was spending $6000 a week on drugs. I can barely think, work, or socialize with a minor hangover, so this really surprised me. I also learned that it is possible to maintain a sense of humor after you have been to Hell and back.

5.6 Asian-Pacific Book
Petals from the Sky by Mingmei Yip (2 Stars) - Asian-American Author, set in China
The book started out beautifully but gradually over time I became disgusted. The first couple of chapters drew me in to like Ming. But when she went to NYC and there after, I wasn't interested in the characters at all. I hurried to finish the novel. What a disappointment that the author chose to include such raunchiness when it wasn't required. And after a while, Michael became far too annoying with all his whining.
15.3 Read at Least Once (#233 on Page 3)

I honestly do not understand why this book is #233 on the list! It should be higher! The novel starts off a bit slow but once Miss Winters is introduced, I was snared in by the storyteller. The mystery which unfolds left me very satisfied when I finished. So if you like fairy tales and mysteries, this book is for you!
And I agree that To Kill a Mockingbird should stay at the top of the Read at Least Once List. It was that good compared to the other top twenty. And I may have to re-read sometime.
15.6 Goodreads Circle of Friends: Task I 5 Star Read (Brenda)
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë (4 Stars)
This book started the gothic mystery. The madness of the characters falling in love reminded me of the rashness of Romeo & Juliet but more sadistic and twisted. I was glad to finish this classic.
Goodreads Circle of Friends: Task II Friend of a Friend (Shelby)
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (5 Stars)
This touching novel will squeeze your heart and soul into tears, giggles and smiles. Due to the cover alone (dominoes), the song "London Bridge" played for I was waiting for the moment when "they all fall down". Each chapter hit at my resolve for I expected something bad to happen and yet I was permitting myself to be taken in by the characters. The stories the characters wrote enchanted me and made me see another viewpoint to the war.
Points: 110

The main character in the book was working on and sold a novel. I gave away several novels from my TBR pile that I will NEVER read to my library book sale. My kids also cleaned off their bookshelves and gave lots of their books away, too.

I read Relentless because I think it's important to never give up. Get back on the bike you fell off of, so to speak. In fact, that's how my husband got me to date him: he was relentless in his pursuit of me. I just don't think it's worth the time you'd spend feeling sorry for yourself when you can learn from your mistakes and try again; I think it's the only way you can move forward in life.

P.S. I LOVE Ms. Anderson's 50-point task. Awesome!

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
There is definitely Pride in the story with Mr.Darcy, though erroneous, and several other characters. It caused them to make judgements upon each other that proved to be disasterous and life changing. Pride is a deadly sin in the fact that it can cause individuals to have an unrealistic perception of themselves not to meantion the preceived character that others may find in them. Pride can lead to loneliness or poor company.

15.7 - Beware The Seven Deadly Sins
Simply Sinful by Carly Phillips – Sins in the book: lust, greed & gluttony. Reasons these are deadly: mainly selfishness – when you give into any of these sins, you stop considering (or caring) how your actions affect the lives of others. In the book, a mob-run prostitution ring is broken up, but not before two people are murdered and countless lives damaged. - ★★
15.9 - What's in a name?
Crazy Hot by Tara Janzen (pen name for Glenna McReynolds) If I were a writer I’d use the pen name Brandywine Francis O’Connell because it’s one of the names I use when going on road trips with friends – it mixes up a whole bunch of character/place names from various books. - ★★★★
20.1 - The Most Improved Player - Cindy AL - April Fool
Charmed and Dangerous by Toni McGee Causey – this book was hysterical! It reads very much like a Southern version of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series with mystery, mayhem, explosions, and unresolved yet swoon-worthy romance. - ★★★★★

Rising Tides by Nora Roberts – Grace is a housekeeper - ★★★★
20.3 - Best Review Contest - Amy MO - Mental Health
A. Chesapeake Blue by Nora Roberts – Gloria DeLauter is a pathological liar with narcissistic personality disorder – pretty much I learned from the book what I’ve seen in life, that these people see everything as being about them and that regardless of what they do or don’t do, they believe they deserve the best of what others have and if they don’t have it, it’s somebody else’s fault. - ★★★

20.6 - Supporting Goodreads Authors - Bridgit - Favorite Series
Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night by Kresley Cole – Cole’s Immortals After Dark series is a paranormal romance series about mythological beings discovering true love that heals all the wounds accumulated in the countless years of immortal life. The Immortals all come across as superheroes, no dramatic situation is ever too horrifying as all wounds can (eventually) be healed, and both heroes & heroines are intelligent, witty, and passionate. Author Gena Showalter commented in one of her book dedications that little girls are made of sugar and spice but Kresley Cole is made of rainbows and glitter, which to me is the best combination for a writer of truly romantic, magical stories – the series is like Disney for grown-ups. - ★★★★★

I read a few Stephen King novels in High School, starting with The Stand, which was awesome, and ending with Pet Sematary, which was awful.
Cujo is awful, too. Worse than how I remember Pet Sematary. I'm surprised this book was published. It's a disconnected story with people who react childishly and abnormally. There's no story here that deserves more than perhaps 50 pages. This is at most a short story and even then it doesn't hold a lot of appeal.
I've heard that King wrote this book while in the deepest depths of his alcoholism and I believe that. It reads like rambling.
One Star.

It's been awhile. I've been reading a lot of non-task books because when good stuff comes in at the library, I can't help but check it out. :)
15.2 Anzac Day -
For the Australian part of the challenge I read Feeling Sorry for Celia: A Novel by Jaclyn Moriarty. This book is written in epistolary family and is about an Australian teen and her relationships with her family and friends. I highly recommend.
For a WWI book I read A Duty to the Dead by Charles Todd, about a WWI nurse whose ship is sunk by a mine. She falls in love with a soldier, and when he dies she carries his last message to his family (while on leave for an injury) and encounters murder/mystery. A good read.
25.5 Spring Cleaning - I read:
The Cement Garden by Ian Mc Ewan - 160 pages
Posh and Prejudice by Grace Dent - 224 pages
Follow the Model: Miss J's Guide to Unleashing Presence, Poise, and Power by J. Alexander - 240 pages
Fallen by Lauren Kate - 464 pages
= 1088 pages
25.7 - Mythology - I read The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Pretty Good. Its about a teen who finds out he is the son of Poseidon, and must go on a quest.
25.10 - Deja Vu
I read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. My favorite book. Or second favorite to Jane Eyre.
I've actually read a lot of P&P continuations/spin-offs. This time I read Colleen McCullough's The Independence of Miss Mary Bennet: A Novel. It did not work for me. I don't believe that this book lived up to the original at all. While some of the plot lines where interesting (esp. Lizzy and Darcy being unhappily married), in whole it doesn't work at all. The language is not there, the emotion either, and the plot is just too crazy. I think it was bold of the author to choose Mary as a protagonist, however, esp. since she is such a minor and unlikeable character in the original book.

25.7 - Ashley FL's Task - The Gods Must Be Crazy
Read a book involving Greek and/or Roman gods.
I read: Warrior Rising by P. C. Cast (Paperback, 368 pages) This is #6 from Cast’s “Goddess Summoning” Series. In Warrior Rising , Hera, Athena and Venus, deciding that they've had enough of the Trojan War. In an attempt to convince the men to make love not war, Venus imports the souls of two modern women (from Tulsa, Oklahoma), recently dead from a car crash, and has them inhabit the bodies of two high-born women, recently dead from a riot, and commands them to stop the Trojan War. Good, lighthearted fun, and is it a spoiler to say that love wins out in the end? :0)

5.6 - Shanghai Girls by Lisa See
10.2 - Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jordan Sonnenblick (rated 4.34)
10.5 - Forgive Me by Amanda Eyre Ward
15.3 - The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
This book was one of my favorites I have read in a while. The voice was very interesting - it almost reminded me of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. I think it helps to hear a voice so different from our own to remind us how different other people might think from the way we do. I think this book should be higher on the list, it deserves to be on the first page. At the top of my list: Where the Red Fern Grows - hard work, loyalty, love, and the adverse effects of being a bully...all in a well told story.
15.7 - Lust by Susan Minot
Lust is dangerous because it can lead to other types of sins. You lose your head and end up doing things you wouldn't have done under normal circumstances.
20.8 - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling; The Magician's Elephant by Kate DiCamillo
20.10 - The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman
Total: 95

5.6 (Dorothea Dix) - Night by Elie Wiesel
An important book, but maybe not the best book to read in bed. I kept getting depressed, putting it aside, and taking a nap.
20.6 (Favorite Series) - The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien
I don't have a favorite series because I don't usually read series. I did really like The Fellowship of the Ring, so I thought I should give the second book a try. I didn't like it as much, but it was still pretty good.

1862, "Belle Boyd released from Old Capital Prison in Washington, DC,"
A. Since Belle Boyd was a spy for the Confederacy, I read Petticoat Spies: Six Women Spies of the Civil War. I followed up with
B. Loose Lips. This book is about a woman who goes to work for the CIA - it's both thematically related and geographically, since it primarily takes place in Virginia, where Belle Boyd also lived. This one was definitely a light read. If the details are accurate (or, I guess, even if they aren't), reading about the CIA training was interesting.

5.1 Birds & Bees: Little Bee: A Novel 4*
Chris Cleaves is a Goodreads Author
A beautifully written story of a Nigerian refugee in the British system. The characters are well developed and the story is compelling.
15.5 Poetry and Haiku: Diamond Willow 4*
A lovely book for Young Adults - written in poetry form that makes shapes (triangles, rectangles, etc) per page. Also has highlighted single words in the middle lines of each page showing a secret meaning. Very interesting. Great book for introducing young readers to poetry.
My attempt at haiku shows where my thoughts are this spring:
The sun is shining
The golf clubs are a'waiting
And I grab my keys
