Heidi Bluemoon if I knew how old you were (except that it is after 1982) AND how old everyone else is on this group, I could answer you! All I know is Shannen and I are one year apart in age!

And we definitely aren't the youngest ones! LOL!

message 205: by Heidi (new)

Heidi That's right Shannen - that's what I keep telling myself too:)

Oh, ick! I was 23 once......

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I've been 23 for a few years now.....

message 208: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (closer2coma86) | 83 comments Yeah I feel like I've been 60 for about 2 years now.

message 209: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Just started Bloodfever (Fever, #2) by Karen Marie Moning .

Heidi wrote: "Just started Bloodfever (Fever, #2) by Karen Marie Moning."

YAY! Do you have the fever???

message 211: by [deleted user] (new)

I would say urban fantasy.

message 212: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I definitely wouldn't call it romance - even though I want it to be. It's more of a thriller I'd say.

message 213: by [deleted user] (new)

I wouldn't call it a romance either. It has some steamy scenes but it's not a love story. I'm not sure of all the technicalities of the different genres.

message 214: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I think it is in a category all it's own!

message 215: by [deleted user] (new)

Do you think it is urban fantasy, Heidi?

message 216: by Heidi (new)

Heidi If I had to pick, I would say it is urban fantasy since it is set in the modern day. I am only on book 2, but is not a romance that I can tell.

message 217: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) What is urban fantasy anyway? I think you said you like that genre Shannen? I never thought about what it actually is. What books would be considered urban fantasy?

message 218: by [deleted user] (new)

I think it is fantasy books that take place in modern day. But I'm not sure what makes something a fantasy book vs. paranormal. Are faeries fantasy and vampires paranormal?

message 219: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I think to me urban fantasy is books set in modern day that have a magical element to them. But that is kind of a broad description. Since Harry Potter is set in modern day and has a magical world within it -- I guess that could be included, but I put that in a different category like fantasy. But, you wouldn't know Peep, since you never read the series. (ha!)

message 220: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Oh goodness, I thought it was fantasy that took place in the big city (Fever - Dublin), but then thought maybe it was something else. Why couldn't we just call it a modern day fantasy?

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments I've been wanting to start the fever series too... I go to the library, and they only have Book 3... so, I'll have to wait a while (like with most things at my library) But I guess it's for the best since there are just so many books to read!

message 222: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Just beware Brittany and Bluemoon - if you are a prude, (like me), it can be a little shocking at times, and it is definitely cheesy... but in the best possible way. :)

message 223: by Traci (new)

Traci I finished Water for Elephants a couple days ago and absolutely loved it. It was really really really good and if you guys haven't read it yet then it HAS to be put on your TBR list. right now. NO EXCEPTIONS. :p

message 224: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Traci - I loved it too, but am a little upset about the cast they got for the movie. They are not at all who I pictured!

message 225: by Traci (new)

Traci Heidi- I definitely agree. I did not picture Reese Witherspoon at all! She seems way too delicate to play Marlena. Hm. I probably just will never be able to get her "Legally Blonde" image out of my head. :[

however, I think it's hilarious that RPatz fans can now simultaneously be Team Edward and Team Jacob :p (not that I think he should be cast as Jacob, but I just think it's funny.)

message 226: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ha! Traci that is too funny (team Jacob/Team Edward!). I was thinking of a actress with olive skin and dark hair for Marlena -- not a blond with blue eyes. And I def. did NOT picture RPatz as Jacob.

message 228: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm looking forward to reading Water for Elephants. Just have to get some of my series books out of the way. Then I'll be able to comment on the casting. (Like I'll ever think that Rob shouldn't be cast! Haha!)

message 229: by Dialma (new)

Dialma | 14 comments I'm reading Little Bee and finding it interesting so far. I'm also readingMegan's Way.

message 230: by Heidi (last edited Apr 12, 2010 10:11AM) (new)

Heidi Dialma - I was thinking of reading Little Bee - how is it???? I checked on Megan's way, but my mom died of cancer when I was 13, so that seems a little to close to home for me.

The Silverthorn library has them all so just use the loan system.

message 232: by [deleted user] (new)

Brittany - You must read the Fever series! It has some erotic moments so it is definitely not YA but the fantasy part of it is so great.

message 233: by [deleted user] (new)

I have a few pages left of Wicked Lovely and then I think I am going to read Water for Elephants. The thought of being both Team Edward and Team Jacob is too intriguing! And you can bet that I will be picturing Rob as Jacob. :)

message 234: by Tammy "Z Girl" (new)

Tammy "Z Girl" I completely agree on the Fever series. I LOVED them and they are definitely a must read. If I had known what a cliffhanger the last book was going to be, I might have taken a little more time going through them....December seems so long to wait for the last book! :-)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Shannen wrote: "I think it is fantasy books that take place in modern day. But I'm not sure what makes something a fantasy book vs. paranormal. Are faeries fantasy and vampires paranormal?"

What I have been told is that paranormal is vampires, monsters, etc. while fantasy is magic, animal talking, etc. based.

I don't get into all the other genres of fantasy, though. It gets too confusing.

Thanks Jaimie, I'll do that. (I love having someone so close to commiserate with.)

message 237: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments No problem. I didn't think they would and I ended up buying them except for the last one.

message 238: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Oh Brittany - I can't wait for your reaction about the Fever series. I listened to it on audio and it really woke me up!

message 239: by Traci (new)

Traci So I've compiled a shopping cart of books on Amazon with a bunch of the recommendations from you guys (the Fever series, The Thief, Maze Runner, Incarceron, etc) and let me just tell you that my total bill is over $100! This is not good, ladies. Not good at all. :p No, I have not actually bought them yet. I am not impulsive enough (nor do I have the kind of money!) for that ;x

message 240: by Heidi (new)

Heidi That is what the wishlist is for Traci!

message 241: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) And the library!

message 242: by Traci (new)

Traci I know, I know! I had intended on only buying Darkfever and The Thief, but my hand wouldn't stop there! some how I added 7 other books! and then I decided I couldn't order any of them because if I ordered one, I'd have to order them all. :[ I have little will power.

message 243: by [deleted user] (new)

Traci - Just buy Darkfever. You won't be disappointed. :)

message 244: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I just started The Beekeeper's Apprentice (Mary Russell, #1) by Laurie R. King last night and am liking it so far. Who here recommended it??? Someone did, I can't remember who it was!

message 245: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Bluemoon wrote: "HEIDI: I have that book! Haven't gotten around to reading it. Let me know what you think.

I thought you were going to read Incarceron?"

I have had Beekeepers Apprentice at home for 3 weeks and have to return it to the library, so I started it first. I plan to pick Incarceron up from the library later this week.

message 246: by [deleted user] (new)

I got a little further into Water for Elephants last night and I really like it. Can't help but wonder if they are going to dye Rob's hair red for the movie. *sigh*

That's right he is a red head in the book. What color is Marlena's hair. I could have sworn she was a brunette???

It's still to early on my read for me to tell if I'm really liking Little Bee, but so far it's keeping me interested. As for Megan's Way, it's been a hard read for me, because I'm dealing with my mom having Stage 4 Breast Cancer and she's living with me now,and it is a bit too close for home. But I'm a bit OCD when it comes to books, so I have to finish it somehow. It has taken me a month and a week so far, I'm only reading a couple pages at a time.

So sorry to hear about your mother. My mother had breast cancer too. I also had it several years ago, but luckily found it early (because of my mother having it). All of my mothers sisters (4) had it too. I hate it (breast cancer). My thoughts are with you :(

message 250: by [deleted user] (new)

Heidi - Marlena has light brown hair.

Dialma - I'm so sorry about your mom. I don't know much about breast cancer as we have never had it in our family. Our family is full of addiction and heart disease. My prayers are with you and your mom.
