Hey, I'm Kathleen! I'm 19 years old and I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. Absolutely hate it... anyway, I LOVE to read!! I have a huge pile of books near my bed that I need to read! I love all genres, mostly fantasy, and chick lit. My favorite author at the moment is Dan Brown! It took me two days to read Angels and Demons!! I am reading Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley and then next I'm going to read The Girl by Catherine Cookson. Other then reading, I love school, playing my violin, watching tv and listening to music. I love my family and friends! Yep, that's me!! :)

I'm Mary. I'm a teen librarian from Ohio with 2 small children and a non-reading husband that just moved during summer reading program, so I guess that makes me insane! I couldn't read for a while after my mom died last fall because we shared books all of the time but I'm back into it as long as I don't read a mystery, which was her favorite.

Hello, Welcome to everyone!

I've been having computer/internet issues.

Now I am in Florida soaking sun into my white pores and loving every minute of it. So, to say I've been pulled into the summer time lull.

:( But I have been getting some reading done :) I alos hope that the summer time lull is what is going on around here. We really do have some fab conversations... jump in and lets get this group going again!

This is great. I'm Barb and I just joined Monday. I (of course) also love to read. I generally read fiction-love fantasy, thrillers, mysteries, historical, chick lit-I guess anything! I've been reading all my life-I'm 58, work as a bookkeeper in a music store and used to run a tiny library in the country. I was enjoying all the comments here and saw that some of you are reading my favorites. Kathleen, I too love Dan Brown and adored the Mists of Avalon. We'll have to compare books. I'm so glad I have joined this.

Hello, friends. My name is Jasmine, I'm 23, and from California. I work at a used book store and a non profit out in the Bay Area so for the most part, I'm pretty busy all the time. Even with my schedule, I make time to read a lot and often. Right now, I'm re-reading The History of Love by Nicole Krauss and am very patiently awaiting her newest book release. Along with that, I'm reading Goodbye, Columbus by Philip Roth who is one of my favorite authors.
When I'm not reading, I'm playing music, listening to music, climbing shit, running around shit, watching Bravo, and oogling over clothes that I can't afford. I'm always up for book/music recommendations if you have any :)

Good Day, Everybody! I joined Goodreads after speaking with a friend about various books we've read over the years. I've only been a member for a couple of months. I'm not a big fan of "signing up" for websites, but I have to admit I am absolutely thrilled that this website (and group) exists! I live in Central Massachusetts, and I admit I need to join a groupd called "Books Anonymous"!! I am a book junkie! I read EVERYTHING!! This website has provided me with an incredible resource for books great and not so great! I have received so many recommendations over the past couple of months. I can't wait to receive more... Ann,I qualify as a 'bookaholic' too...no room in my house for more books, but still have to peruse the 'for sale' shelves a the local library. I always say I'm going to just look, but always end up finding something that 'speaks to me'.

Jasmine, if you are not stuck in a particular genre of music, I would recommend the group Pink Martini...they play World Music, an eclectic mix of different styles of American, and Foreign (sometimes very littleknown) cultures.

Hi Carol! I can't believe I forgot to mention that I have books and/or bookshelves in every room of my house! My husband always teases me because I'm always bringing home another book...or 10! ;o) I am proud to share, though, that every book I read, I pass along to family or friends or I donate it to the local library. On a rare occassion, I will keep a book or a series of books because I loved it so much. I don't usually read a book more than once, but I do have my moments when I want to relive the feeling I experienced when I was reading a particular book. Thank you so much for making the connection. I have discovered more books that "speak to me". It's wonderful how the written word opens up so many difference worlds, feelings and experiences.

Haha Hmm... good question. I actually live in Bountiful, I say SLC because people know where that is haha. But it's close to Salt Lake. My Aunt live in Logan and is planning on move asap lol

Hello! Like Danielle, I am a 22 fresh out of college who has found time to read for fun. I love the purpose of this group, which is what prompted me to join, as I am a huge advocate for literacy in America, and beyond.

Right now I am unemployed and hoping I can find a job. I am working on plans for volunteering at a local YWCA. I would likely be leading a theatre group for children and I might see about helping out in the small bookstore they run that directly benefits the organization.

Wow, Caity, how wonderful for someone who loves to read to be able to be around books the way one can when they actually work in a bookstore! I volunteered for a couple of days at the Roseville Library in MN when I visited my sister a year ago in June and it was so rewarding. I shelved requests, filed audio books, filed DVD's...and got to see a lot of names and titles in the process, ideas for my own reading pleasure. My LOCAL library in Lakewood, CA, has a small room where they sell donated books, and even though the room IS really small, the bookcases are placed to hold a lot of books, so I know that even a small space can have a lot of heart...I'd say - 'Go for it!'

Melanie, in recommendation of Hallowe'en books...in the generality of 'supernatural', I have heard that 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' is pretty amusing. Or are you looking for something really scary?

Not looking for scary so much as atmospheric. Books like Zelazny's A Night in the Lonesome October or Kate Borden's Death of a Trickster. Horror recs are good though since I read in all genres.

Ooo - it's not that I intentionally stay away from any genres, but I don't spend as much time in and around the classics as I'd like to and I'll try anything out :D
I'm a geek at heart so spend a fair bit of time on sci-fi, but love the simplicity of an author like Haruki Murakami and his ability to spend a book simply listening in on two intreguing characters. I often find myself leaning towards the unusual as well but respect and enjoy such books as the Kite Runner and the Alchemist.

Looking forward to hearing more from the group and getting some new favourites and hopefully recommending a few myself!

Hi everyone, I joined Goodreads a year ago then disappeared for a while, so now I'm re-acquinting myself with everyone. My name is Ednah from Utah...a secluded gorgeous valley in the northern tip. I love to read. I go through cycle in my reading, I'll get into espionage move to medical thrillers, then romance then fantasy.... Needeless to say, I love to read and write. When not reading or writing, I chauffer my five kids to their school or afterschool activities or cook...love to try new recipes.
