Paula (pauldajo) I finished Proven Guilty last night and liked it. I think that Butcher is getting too verbose in some of his descriptions and explanations. That happens to many authors as their series' mature. Now a friend at work disagrees. He really likes detailed descriptions during the battle scenes. Me, not so much!

I still need to read a Butcher book. I've read a few short stories and I don't get into them. However, it's hard to do that when you don't understand the world and have the background information necessary to understand the relationships.

message 203: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I have read the first couple and I can't get too into them either. I hear they get better though, but I don't think I'll read another (for a while anyway).

I read The Rest Falls Away (Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #1) by Colleen Gleason and I liked it, but I didn't love it. I can see though how this first book will possibly lead to more interesting stories in later books.

Dark Legend - Christine Feehan

I want to bang my head on something. I loved the Drake Sisters, but I feel like the Carpathians books are the same stories over and over again. Maybe if there were more plot and less "take me now" moments I'd be happier, but I really don't see there being enough differences within the books to make me happy. I kind of feel like I'm reading Katie MacAlister's Dark Ones. There's just too much repetition for me to feel like I'm reading a different book.

Heather they do get a little better as the series goes as she introduces a larger story arc. So while there is the couple's story, it ends up not being the whole story.

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments I just read Girl in the Arena by Lise Haines , and I have no idea what to feel about it, lol. It wasn't THAT good, but it wasn't bad either. I'd give it 2.5 stars overall.

Good to know Darcy. I figure I'll just space them out a lot more. I can't read the series one after the other like I normally do with everything else.

message 208: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I just finished Tales of the Otherworld (Otherworld) by Kelley Armstrong . For me this was a great one, you got to see a lot of people in their world and there was the story of how Elena and Clay meet. The last story I think was great set up for Savannah's story later this year.

message 209: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished listening to Three Bedrooms, One Corpse and didn't like the book. I was hoping Rue Teagarden would irritate me less as the series progressed, but no.

I've read the first two from Tales from the Underworld. I've been forcing myself not to read it all at one time since I love Armstrong. I liked to see Kristoff in the beginning. I can't wait to read the one on Elena. I'm glad they're good Darcy.

message 211: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) Heather, I went to amazon.com to check out Tales from the Otherworld and darn it, the book is on audiobook for around $15. I then saw that the Reckoning was on audiobook for around $13, darn it again! I bought both. I'm a weak, weak woman (who will be enjoying herself).

Paula those are GREAT prices for audio books, I probably would have broken down and bought them. I am still waiting for The Reckoning from the library. They have been slow on new releases lately.

message 213: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) Darcy, I'm happy to hear you say that the prices are good. I won't spend $20, but if it's 15 and under I will. Still shouldn't, but .....

message 214: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Those are great prices! I already have the first book on audio, but if I like it, I will probably get the rest.

I still need The Reckoning. I've been good about not buying it so far.

message 216: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished listening to The Reckoning last night. I enjoyed the audiobook. I couldn't seem to turn the mp3 off until the end of the story. I'm really tired this morning! On to listening to Tales of the Otherworld!

I'm reading Tales of the Otherworld too. It's great.
I just finished the first 5 Lynsay Sands Argeneau books. They're fluffy, but adorable.

message 218: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments I really like the Argeneau books :). My favorite has to be Vampire, Interrupted (Argeneau, #9) by Lynsay Sands , though a few of them (from those I have read) have been really fun to read.

message 219: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I just read Original Sin (The Seven Deadly Sins, #1) by Allison Brennan , which was just awful. It seems like there is a book missing before this one and this is the 1st in the series.

I also finished Dying Bites (The Bloodhound Files, #1) by D.D. Barant , which I am not sure about. I did like it enough to read the second one.

oh dear, that sucks. =[

Hannah (Hannahbanana1980) | 9 comments I just read Saving Ceecee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman and I loved it, not what this group is into, but I have to have a break from vamps and other supernatural things from time to time.

I have that one loaded on my i-pod and listen to it when I don't walk with friends, am on disc 6 and have to agree with you that it is really good. The narrator does a great job.

message 223: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I finished Rises The Night (Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #2) by Colleen Gleason and it was great! Much better than the first. The author doesn't go into explanations on what happened in the first book either, which was great. I didn't feel there were any slow parts, the story moved along at a pretty fast pace. I think fans of Night Huntress or Kate Daniels will like this series. I am shocked it's not more popular.

message 224: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading The Lightning Thief. It wasn't bad. My biggest complaint was the universe. I just didn't like the descriptions of the underworld and how it functioned. I think that kids 12 and under would like the story and universe and there were elements in the book that I liked too.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I just finished Twisted, which we have talked about here and it was really good. If you like cop/FBI thrillers check this one out.

I also just finished a couple of books by Annette Blair. If you are looking for some fun light PNR books check her out.

message 226: by Paula (last edited May 10, 2010 05:20AM) (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading The Sea of Monsters and I liked it. I felt sorry for the cyclops. There would be no bad cyclopses (cyclopsi?), if they were raise with love and direction!

message 227: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments So I read The Bleeding Dusk (Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #3) by Colleen Gleason (3rd in the Gardella Vampire Chronicles), and it was great! Had a good little twist at the end too.

Then today (I'm a bit sick so I had a lot of reading time :D) I read The Body Finder (Body Finder, #1) by Kimberly Derting . It was brilliant, I loved every bit of it!!!

message 228: by Paula (new)

I am glad to hear something good about The Body Finder, I have that as a challenge book this month and have been looking forward to it. I should get it from the library in a week or so.

Hannah, you don't have to stick to vamps here. It just seems to be what we pick. What was it about? While on my trip I read Blonde With a Wand (Babes-on-Brooms, #1) by Vicki Lewis Thompson Hero at Large by Janet Evanovich Witch Way to Murder (An Ophelia and Abby Mystery, #1) by Shirley Damsgaard Charmed to Death (An Ophelia and Abby Mystery, #2) by Shirley Damsgaard The Trouble With Witches (An Ophelia and Abby Mystery, #3) by Shirley Damsgaard Bite Me If You Can (Argeneau, #6) by Lynsay Sands .
The only one's I'd recommend are Blond with a Wand and Bite Me If You Can and the last one is cheesy, but adorable.

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments I read My Double Life by Janette Rallison recently, and I really enjoyed it. I would highly recommend it!

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I just finished Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels, #4) by Ilona Andrews and if you are a fan of this series it will not disappoint!!

Someone on another group said that B&N was shipping it starting last Monday. I went and ordered mine right away. Some people are saying that the book is in stores now so you might want to check.

message 236: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Ooooooo I'll have to go check Chapters! If I ordered from B&N it would take forever to get here, so I'll just have to hope it's here early as well.

A lot of paperbacks have soft release dates and things get released as soon as they get to the store. Hardbacks are more strict. I can't wait to read it.

message 238: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments For those that read the Riley Jensen series by Keri Arthur, B&N has the new one Moon Sworn (Riley Jenson Guardian, #9) by Keri Arthur for under $5.

The Body Finder (Body Finder, #1) by Kimberly Derting
I really enjoyed it. I felt like it was more realistic in the relationship area. No one's obnoxiously good with witty banter, it's not love or lust at first site, or any of those other common techniques. I like that the characters aren't quite sure how to go about things. It's more reminiscent of real life since we're all so terrified of being turned down that most of us are afraid to even ask.

I thought about that too. Right now I'm wishing I could get 365 books of Kate Daniels to keep me busy for the year. I'm loving it.

Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels, #4) by Ilona Andrews - Loved it. It was interesting and exciting. It freaks you out, makes you happy, makes you want to strangle someone, and all the other emotional targets that you want a book to hit. There are great lines in the book to keep you laughing and scenes I'll never forget. Kate's one heck of a character.

Mortal Sins (World of the Lupi, #5) by Eileen Wilks - Fun. If you liked the other one's you'll enjoy this one.
The Red Heart of Jade (Dirk & Steele, #3) by Marjorie M. Liu - i like this dirk & steel one more than the others for some reason. Although, I did like the Russian.

message 247: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I finished a couple that were really good this week.

Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #8) by J.R. Ward , which if you like the BDB, it was a good one.

The Butterfly Garden (Five Star Expressions) by Annette Blair , which surprised me with how much I liked it. It isn't like this authors others books.

Hunted By The Others (H&W Investigations, #1) by Jess Haines , a good first book, the series reminded me of early Anita Blake or Rachel Morgan.

message 248: by Angela (new)

Angela B Anita Blake and Rachel Morgan are like my favs so I now have another book on my TBR
