I'm really curious to read something outside of the House of Night series by either of the authors.

I just got The Vampire Is Just Not That Into You by Vlad Mezrich and its hilarious. To me.

They're fun. Still cheesy, but generally better than the more recent HoN's. They're all very similar though since her tone is so unique to her.

message 1407: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) Been on a reading roll. Read some great books this week:

Hunting Ground (Alpha & Omega, #2) by Patricia Briggs Hounded (Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne Night Pleasures (Dark-Hunter, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Oh, I bet anything P.C. Cast is going to be extremely cheesy. That is part of the appeal.

HoN second to last one I really liked because of the beauty and the beast romance. Haven't read the most recent one yet, I'm starting to get nervous.

message 1409: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 432 comments Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead I would totally recommend this one.

I love that series Samantha. I liked the first one the best. I like how she meets the writer.

message 1411: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading The Lost Hero and started reading Magic Slays. I preordered a bunch of books in two orders from amazon about 6 months ago and they all came on the same day.

message 1412: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading Dark and Stormy Knights and liked many of the stories. I finished listening to Skulduggery Pleasant which was an easy and entertaining listen.

message 1413: by Shannon Carly (new)

Shannon Carly (shannibal) | 24 comments I've recently read:
Bloodshot (Cheshire Red Reports #1) by Cherie Priest Hellbent (Cheshire Red Reports, #2) by Cherie Priest both were easy reads and pretty funny as well. The only issues I had were the inner thoughts of the main character that tended to run on for pages, which overwhelmed the actual action in the story.

Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger I didn't expect this to be appeal to me, but was pleasantly surprised. The story was fun and kept my interest.

Mind Games (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #1) by Carolyn Crane Double Cross (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #2) by Carolyn Crane Wow, Loved them both. Excellent story and interesting characters!

message 1414: by Juana "Darkness" (new)

Juana "Darkness" Duran I just got done reading Unraveled by Gena Showalter. Unraveled (Intertwined, #2) by Gena Showalter 4 stars

message 1415: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I just finished Beautiful Demons (Peachville High Demons, #1) by Sarra Cannon and I really liked it! Whenever I find a really great indy book I feel like I have hit the jackpot.

message 1416: by Jessica B (new)

Jessica B | 292 comments I just finished a re-read of Where the Red Fern Grows. It was even better then I remember it being when I read it in the 4th grade!

message 1417: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I know what you mean Jessica, I listened to the audio of that one last year. It was one of my favorite books when I was a kid.

message 1418: by Jessica B (new)

Jessica B | 292 comments It makes me want to re-read more books from my childhood! Like Tuck Everlasting and To Kill a Mockingbird. :)

I hated WRFG, but it had nothing to do with the book itself. I was in Wales on vacation in the middle of the school year and I had to read the book and right PAGES of info on every chapter as my homework. Of course, with family members and touristy things I never had time to get very far into the project so I ended up trying to frantically read it on the plane ride back. It was the black shadow hanging over my trip. Luckily, the book itself is pretty good. If it had been Bridge to Terabithia or something I wouldn't survived the trip.

message 1420: by [deleted user] (new)

I love bridge to terabitha! The other day, my mom told my i should have read it in eighth grade, but i read it when i was 7 or 8. :)

message 1421: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
Gee.. I got lucky because I didn't read it in 5th grade. I was in a 5th/6th combined class and the 5th graders read it the year I was in 6th. I can't remember what we read though. WRFG was 4th?
It's going to bother me until I can figure out what the big book was in 6th grade. Grrr.

message 1422: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) WtRFG was 5th grade for me. 6th might have been Hatchet or My Side of the Mountain, but that was 20 years ago and my memory jumbles that stuff up.

Mercy Blade (Jane Yellowrock, #3) by Faith Hunter

I thought I'd hate this series and now I'm wishing I had bought the books.

message 1424: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
Those sound familiar, but i don't know if I read them, or if they're just popular enough that i remember them that way.

They are one of my favorite series.

message 1426: by Jessica B (new)

Jessica B | 292 comments I added the series to my TBR. Looks interesting!

I've bought them all so far and I really need to read them!

message 1428: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I have read the first two, but haven't gotten to the third yet.

message 1429: by Jessica B (new)

Jessica B | 292 comments I finished Days of Gold (Edilean, #2) by Jude Deveraux on audio. Although the story wasn't great the person readign it did a good job.

message 1430: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments I just finished The Taking Tree A Selfish Parody by Shrill Travesty . I've gotta say, children's books were not this awesome when I was little! Or was I just unaware?

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments I really need to get caught up!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Drink, Slay, Love by Sarah Beth Durst

Such a fun book. The female lead was strong and snarky, there was no pining or mooning, and the cocky guy gets kicked to the curb in favor of the nice guy. Plus, there's a were-unicorn which is just epic. Not the usual vamp read by a long shot.

message 1433: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments Well. You had me a were-unicorn. Off to see if this epic book of awesomeness is in my library. Fingers crossed.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments It's not out yet. I got it off Simon and Schuster's galley grab. I think you can search the net to find out how to get an invite code or something...not sure. Someone else gave me the invite.

message 1435: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments Wow! I didn't notice that it doesn't come out until September. I put a hold on it at my library. It'll come eventually.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments At least you'll probably be first on the list. :)

message 1437: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments Its a good thing I have a good and long tbr pile to keep my busy. Because, really, wereunicorns? Yes please, very much.

Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Thought this was going to be about an actual angel, but ya... =) I was resistant in the beginning since I didn't like the circumstances of how the two came together. Not how it was written, just that a dad could be that domineering... By the end of it I really liked the characters and I want the tiger.

message 1439: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments That is my favorite of SEP! And I know what you mean, I want the tiger too.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Just finished Magic Burns last night.

So excited that I just started Magic Strikes!! This is the one everybody keeps telling me is the real Kate Daniels stuff.

Great, Darcy. I always do this. I somehow end up reading the best one first and then go back to read everything else to find out they're not as great. I guess if I read the worst one first I wouldn't keep reading, but at some point I want to read a decent one and save the best for last. =)

Her football series is pretty good. Like all series some are better than others. For the most part I like all of hers. They are great when you need a light fluffy and forget it read.

I did this with Quinn and umm... the other Romance lady... umm... hold on...Kleypas. I always seem to pick up their best first. I'm happy with the rest of the stuff, but I never get blown away by an amazing one because I read that one first.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I think Kleypas is going to be like that for me too. I fell in love so much with the Hathaways books and am having a harder time with her other books. I know that Wallflowers seem to be most people's favorites, but I wasn't very impressed with WF 1. I do hear that book 3 (I think) is supposed to be good though.

Never did go back and read the rest of Bow Street Runners.

Her modern ones with the Travises were fun.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I might buddy read those with a friend who's looking to check out her contemp stuff. I don't normally like contemporary romance but I'm willing to give it a shot.

message 1448: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I did like the Travises ones. I have read her others as I am not a big historical fan.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I think that if you like her writing style, you'd probably like her newer historicals either way because the historical part is sort of almost in the background. It's not like historical fiction with a lot of extra info, but more like a romance that just happens to be taking place in another time.

The Hathaways are both funny and sexy books.

message 1450: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments Maybe someday I will try them.
