Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I got it at the library. If book 2 is decent I may buy them, but I just read this on a whim because of the time travel thing.

What's strange is that the top few ratings on the page do seem low, but there are 4 people on my friends list that have read it and between the 4 of them, there are 2 ratings that are 5 star, 1 rating that is 4 star and 1 rating that is three star. It almost makes me wonder if people read and reviewed the book that don't normally like this type of PNR. It does lie more on the Twilight/Shiver/Firelight end of the spectrum (more PNR, less UF), so if someone doesn't like cute love stories and wants a more kick butt protag, they probably won't like this one.

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments Ohh I see. :) I L-O-V-E cute little love stories!<3

message 653: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Stacia, I was planning on reading that until you compared it to Shiver. I like cute, light YA romances, but I didn't really care for Shiver. I give it about a 2.5. I thought the writing was great but I didn't care one once for the characters or their story. I hope it's not too much like Shiver.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I liked it better than Shiver if that helps?

The time travel thing and the fact that the main character spoke Italian sort of sealed the deal for me.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments The only similarities between this book and Shiver were the fact that the main character can't control how/when he time travels, which made me think of Sam's inability to control his wolf.

The stories are not similar at all.

And no, this book is nothing like The Time Traveler's Wife. I really didn't like that book at all.

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Ok, good.

message 657: by Angela (new)

Angela B Oh I liked The Time Travels Wife, I cried a lot on that one though

message 658: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments I love that book! The ending was so sad. ='[ I got to a point where I would cry, compose myself, read a line, and then have to stop and compose myself all over again. I think I dropped the rating by one star just because I hated the ending so much. I didn't think it was necessary. -_-

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments The ending was sort of sweet though. Usually I don't like it when authors try to bring that closure if it's not needed (like Mockingjay's epilogue), but for some reason that was one of my favorite parts of the book.

I think that the reason TTW didn't work for me was that the hero felt very beta to me, and not in a cute "shy nerd" way, but moreso in an "average" way. Plus, I couldn't stand Gomez or whatever his name was.

message 660: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished reading Killbox and liked it. The book started out a bit strange. The tone was not the same as the other books. Maybe because Jax wasn't her old paranoid self. She has grown emotionally. Quite frankly the constant paranoia was too much in the previous books. There was a small cliffhanger. Nothing upsetting.

I also finished The Magician. Not my favorite book, but readable. I liked the book more when there was action and not when the characters were trying to relate to one another. Scott didn't do well in that area. Something is missing.

message 661: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) Just read Poison Study and loved it!

message 662: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I finished listening to Men of the Otherworld. Well written though some of the story was hard to listen to. I also thought that parts of this story was manufactored to explain away the harshness of previous books. I did like Jaime and Jeremy's short sweet story.

Vivian (_vivian) Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, #1) by Kiersten White
Really enjoyed this one! Some of the writing is very teenager-ish - like the overuse of "awesome" - but an interesting story. I also thought the relationship that develops in there is really sweet and innocent, like I-wanna-hold-your-hand sweet. Really likeable characters.

message 664: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) I just downloaded Paranormalcy for less than $9 from amazon.com. I've seen many good reviews and hope I agree with them!

message 665: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) Hope you enjoy the book Paula :)

message 666: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) Even though I just started listening to Paranormalcy, I really like the story and the narrator's voice. She sounds appropriately like a teenager. Evie's short life has been an interesting one.

I did really like Evie when I read the book.

Ahh! I love I-wanna-hold-your-hand sweet. It's so tender. Can't wait for the paperback release.

I think it worked well for this story, just enough cheesiness without going overboard :)

Tapestry (Includes Dark-Hunter Related Book, #1; Highlander, #8) by Lynn Kurland
I've only finished the first story by Lynn Kurland and I loved it. It was so cute.
It's from he De Piaget series. Now I want to try book one. Too bad it seems to be out of print. I'm going to try through the library before I go the used book route. However, for some reason, my library's website dies at night and only partially works. They can't be running updates nightly can they?

Castration Celebration by Jake Wizner
I thought it was great! It was scary/amazing how the author managed to turn everything into a sexual innuedo, but the best part were the songs. So funny.

Nightlight A Parody by Harvard Lampoon
I couldn't finish it. It was horrible.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Nightshade (Nightshade, #1) by Andrea Cremer Was pretty sweet. However, it still took the easy way out. Still really excited about this series.

Leaving Paradise (Leaving Paradise, #1) by Simone Elkeles I really liked this one. Maybe even more then Perfect Chemistry. I just can't beleave the ending. At least there's another book!

message 675: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments Shera, I like Returning to Paradise even more then Leaving Paradise! I like them more then Perfect Chemistry too. :)

I'm still on the waiting list for book 2, Returning to Paradise.

message 677: by Angela (new)

Angela B The Perfect Chemistry and Leaving Paradise are completely seperate series right? I think I want to read Leaving Paradise first, I've heard good things about it :)

message 678: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
Yep, different series.

message 679: by Angela (new)

Angela B awesome!

message 680: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments So far I liked the Perfect Chemistry books better than the Paradise books.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Perfect Chemistry was definitely more addcitive. Leaving Paradise felt more real/in depth.

message 682: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) read Glimmerglass (Faeriewalker, #1) by Jenna Black and I Love Yous Are for White People A Memoir by Lac Su .
They were both okay, a little underwhelming. Glimmerglass might have potential as a series though, will have to read the next one to see.

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments Crescendo (Hush, Hush, #2) by Becca Fitzpatrick The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

Crescendo was just amazing. I love Becca Fitzpatrick for thinking of such a great story. :)

I'm almost done with The Last Lecture and I think it's a good book. It's not amazing, but it's interesting and not something I'd normally pick up so I'm glad my book club at school read it. It's about this teacher that knew he was going to die due to pancreatic cancer and before he did he gave this "last lecture." The book is about that lecture, and I think it's mostly by him but his friend actually published it after he died. . .I'm not 100% sure though. I'm not really sure how to describe the book. . . I guess it's about living your life to the fullest and remembering the good times. Like I said, I'm almost done, but the book is basically the same message over and over so I'm just writing about it now instead of once I finish it. :D

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Shera (Book Whispers) wrote: "Perfect Chemistry was definitely more addcitive. Leaving Paradise felt more real/in depth."

I agree. Although I have to say I loved the sequel to Paradise better than the sequel to Chemistry.

They are different series, but I guess because the author has such a distinctive writing style they all get lumped together.

message 685: by Sooz (new)

Sooz Malinoski (soozee) | 55 comments Just finished Dead Witch Walking (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #1) by Kim Harrison , and I enjoyed the story and would read more, but am not in a rush to read all the previous ones. I love Jenks the best and Nick looks intriguing... It's missing something for me to make it a great book, but don't know what it is... Any ideas?
Started An Enchanted Season (Includes Psy-Changeling, #4.5; Murphy Sisters, #1) by Maggie Shayne yesterday and already have read 3 of the 4 stories.... Help, I'm addicted to anthologies!

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Sooz: While I love the Hollow series, something was lacking in the first installment to make it a 5/5. After rereading it, I still don't know what it is that's missing.

Carrie: I keep hearing Return to Paradise is even better. I just can't wait to read it now!

It was difficult to connect to the characters in book one. You weren't really behind Rachel just yet.

message 688: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) Finished Magic Study (Study, #2) by Maria V. Snyder and Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer, #1) by Karen Chance .

Like some others have said, Magic Study isn't quite as awesome as Poison Study, but I still thought it was a good read.

message 689: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 1272 comments omg I liked Magic Study the best it took me a while to get into Poison Study but I flew through Magic Study.

message 690: by Sooz (new)

Sooz Malinoski (soozee) | 55 comments Thanks Heather and Shera... Having read the other thread on the series and some of the quotes, I will have to pick up book two sooner than later...
Thanks!

message 691: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I just finished Queen of Shadows (Shadow World, #1) by Dianne Sylvan which was a great first book for a series. Plus it has the added bonus of being a "Q" book that we can use for our challenge here, a hard letter.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments I plan on reading Queen of Shadows next month. I've been hearing positive things about it. What did you think of it?

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Goodie!! Now I'm even more excited about getting to it.

Acheron (Dark-Hunter, #15) by Sherrilyn Kenyon - I loved it. It probably only deserves 4 stars, but there's such a connection to the the main character that I can't give it any less than 5. I didn't feel like I was reading a book. I felt like I was in someone's life.

message 696: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments Oh good Heather.

Darcy, I added that one to my tbr list. It sounds good.

message 697: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I think you would like it Carrie.

message 698: by Angela (new)

Angela B I finished Real Vampires Have Curves (Glory St. Clair, #1) by Gerry Bartlett lastnight and it was cute. I don't think it's a series I'm too concerned about continuing though.

message 699: by Carrie (Care) (new)

Carrie (Care) (care76) | 1746 comments I finally finished The Scorch Trials. I was so into it, but just didn't have the time. I loved it! I am freaking for the next book, but I think it left off better than the first.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments I really enjoyed the second half of Scorch Trials. I like the new girl.
