I am so sorry- I suck! I have not even turned on my computer for days because of my crazy family life. As an adult I am trying to sit back and figure out when my family became so disfunctional.

So I was thrilled when I remembered that I actually had some fun stuff to do today- like look through your bookshelves! I think you seem like kind of an eclectic guy. I added some of your books to my growning tbr pile. I have never done this before so I hope that you like what I picked for youand if you didn't let me know!

You seem to like mysteries/paranormal so I am going to suggest (I read one of your post that said you liked book covers so, here goes,

Heart-Shaped Box A Novel by Joe Hill

This book is very original and creepy! Its a ghost story but not like one you ever read before. It is written by Stephan Kings son.- I never knew he had one. I loved this book and can't wait for him to write more. I believe this was his first novel.

I also liked a book by Michael Baden and Linda Baden. He is a forensic doctor who has been an the HBO show Autopsy. And she is a lawyer.

It is about a seriel killer and the doctor and lawyer that help to track him down and bring him to justice.
I know it doesn't sound like an original idea but it is a very good book and fact based as they pull from all of thier "real life" knowledge base.

Skeleton Justice by Michael Baden

I also am a huge fan of series. So I am going to recommend some Nora Roberts. I was surprised to see only one book by her on your shelves. Since I also like the paranormal I am going to recommend the best of both worlds with the Circle Trilogy and the Sign of Seven Trilogy.

Morrigan's Cross (Circle trilogy #1) by Nora Roberts Dance of the Gods (Circle trilogy #2) by Nora Roberts Valley of Silence (Circle trilogy #3) by Nora Roberts Blood Brothers (Sign of Seven trilogy #1) by Nora Roberts The Hollow (Sign of Seven trilogy #2) by Nora Roberts The Pagan Stone (Sign of Seven trilogy #3) by Nora Roberts

I also wouldn't feel like I recommended anything good at all if I fidn't suggest you read the Hunger Games and Catching fire by Suzane Collins. I loved these books so much. I love a good YA read and these were so much better than I expected them to be. If you haven't already tried them I would suggest that they are worth a try. I thought they were worth all of the hype!

[image error] Catching Fire (Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins

She also has written a yung adult series called Gregor the Overlander that I enjoyed ALOT even thought it was written for those in the 7th- 9th grade. They were such easy reads and she totally had the ability to transport me into the world she created.

Gregor the Overlander (Underland Chronicles, #1) by Suzanne Collins

I see you have already read the Sookie novels by Charleine Harris but have you checked out any of her other series? I loved all of them! My favorite was the Harper Connelly series. THe first one is Grave Sight. She also writes the Lily Bard Mysteries. THe first one is Shakespears Landord. She has also written a series called the Auroura Teagarden mysteries the first one bieng Real Murders.
I can only WISH i had that much talent!
Grave Sight (Harper Connelly Mystery, #1) by Charlaine Harris Shakespeare's Landlord (Lily Bard Mystery, #1) by Charlaine Harris Real Murders (Aurora Teagarden Mystery, #1) by Charlaine Harris

I hope that you find something in here that you can enjoy as much as I did. If you do let me know I would love to hear about it. If you have already read these let me know and I will go back to the drawing board.

Sorry I took so long--- happy reading!

Julie, I wasn't a big fan of Darkfever, and only continued on with the series at the prompting of others on the boards.

And now it's in my top 3 fave UF series. I definitely recommend continuing on with it. :)

For those that still have no recommendations, please wait just a few more hours to see if they get my message. Either way, check back here tonight because if you still have no recommendation from your partner by then, i'll re-pair you with someone else. Thank you!

2.Heart of the DragonbyGena Showalter This story have dragons, vampires, minotaurs. It have a lot of Greek Mithology on it.

3. I'm the Vampire, That's Why by Michele Bardsley This book is PNR but with fresh and funny twist

4.Scent of Darkness by Christina DoddAnn Smith loves her handsome, dynamic boss, Jasha Wilder, but her daring plan to seduce him goes awry when she encounters a powerful wolf who-before her horrified eyes-changes into the man she adores. She soon discovers she can't escape her destiny, for she is the woman fated to break the curse that binds his soul.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Julie, it's all good. I just need to work on that patience thing some more. As it is, I'm having a horrible day and will decide on one of these tomorrow morning. Thank you very much, I'm sure my bookshelves have expanded by more than one. I'll probably go for the first ghost story but I'll check them out a bit later. Thanks Lory, I read like crazy nowadays, I know. It's a bit ridiculous, but what can I do. I haven't read anything from any of the 4 authors, so this should be interesting. Great recs! I'm gonna go and hunt for those books now, I'm sure at least one of them will fit, if not all ;)

Leslie Jane Fahrney (lesliejane0302) | 12 comments Hi Barbsis.

Sorry for the delay. My mind has been on other things (like finding a job) and forgot to check the forum till I got the reminer e-mail.

And how am I suppose to suggest a book, when you have read everything I might suggest? We have very similar tastes.

I do have a couple you might want to check out.

NJ Walkers - Dalakis Embrace This particular book has two stories, about vampire brothers. I need to go out and find other of the series about the other brother, and others in the series.

Cait Miller - Stray Magic (anthology with Elizabeth Stewart, and Finding the Magic. These are more shapeshifter stories. again a series I need to find others in.

Monica Ferris - A Stitch in Time. A Stitching Mystery. I haven't read it yet, but as soon as I find where I hid it in the house I am going to read it.

Debbie Macomber - any of her Blossom Street series. Set in a yarn shop, has some knitting in the story. Debbie herself loves to knit, and taught knitting on a cruise she was on. We knit squares that she was going to sew together for blankits for Warm Up American. Neat lady.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I will happily give forth a recommendation. Since Julie gave one to me this month, I'll happily return the favor.

Julie: I see that you have a strong YA/PNR stripe running through your shelves. Along those lines, I'd say give Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy a go. I see it is also on your TBR shelf. Perhaps this will give you the impetus you need to do so.

I also see you have a strong tie to the classics and those books we 'had' to read in HS. As such, I'm surprised you haven't read Aldous Huxley's Brave New World nor Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice. However, if you choose the latter, just go all the way and go with the more exciting version, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

Finally, I give you Max Brooks's World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. It is a very interesting zombie tale told from a different point of view.

If you don't like any of these, or if someone else would like to do the honors, just holler and we'll go from there.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments BTW, Julie, I put a library request in for Heart-Shaped Box: A Novel today. I'll pick it up tomorrow.

message 231: by Annie (new)

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Hi Amanda!
Sorry to keep you waiting...

Hopefully at least one of these will work for you - and, learning from our groaning TBR shelves - I have tried to steer clear of series books.

A classic author - I'm on a crusade to make people read her more! - Georgette Heyer. There are so many to choose from, but I've gone with These Old Shades. (Great to keep up your sleeve if you ever need a May-December romance).

An Amanda Quick I didn't see on your shelves - and NOT a series... The Paid Companion.

And, now for something completely different... S/F / dystopian sort of novel... Wen Spencer - A Brother's Price.

If none of these do it for you - let me know & I'll pick again!

message 235: by Julie (new)

Julie (juliedoe) Hi, Barbara. I've had a good time looking through your books, and I've got a few suggestions for you:

Skinwalker by Faith Hunter – first in the Jane Yellowrock series; cool take on the urban fantasy genre

I See You by Holly Lisle - romantic suspense; a stand alone

If Angels Burn by Lynn Viehl - Paranormal romance; first in a six or seven book series; sexy vampires!

Darkborn by Alison Sinclair – futuristic high fantasy (if that makes sense); also the first in a series, although I don't think the second one is out yet.

Blue Diablo by Ann Aguirre - urban fantasy/paranormal romance with a bit of suspense thrown in

Night Life by Caitlin Kittredge – urban fantasy, not much romance; I've found that people either love or hate the main character of the series

On the Edge by Ilona Andrews – another urban fantasy, also with what I thought was an original premise. Not much romance in this one, either.

I hope one of these sounds interesting; if not, please let me know, and I can make more suggestions.

Julie

Melody (melos) Hi Annie. :O)

I have a hodgepodge for you. I find myself resonating with your fantasy/scifi reads, so I've picked a few in that vein. Also, some of these authors you've already read, but not extensively.

Ender's Game, Orson Scott Card - has my vote for one of the best books ever written, a must read.
Wyrms, Orson Scott Card - another favorite, this time the pov is a young girl.
Sister Light, Sister Dark, Jane Yolen - hard to describe, but truly amazing.
The Godmother, Elizabeth Ann Scarborough - a good read by one of McCaffrey's coauthors. If you can find her older out of print titles you're in for a real treat.
Assassin's Apprentice, Robin Hobb - a more modern fantasy offering.
Kissing Midnight, Emma Holly - beginning of a stand alone trilogy that's part of her paranormal/historical series. Beware of cliffhanger!

Hope something here strikes your fancy. :O)
