I love Tangled too!

And what the heck? THG is required reading in public school? Well that's crap. I love the books. But should Literature be required reading? Poetry (which could be considered crap too I guess), Boewulf, Ivanhoe... You know Classics. Ones that make you think to read it simply because it's written to oddly? It's no wonder education is at an all time low. Excuse the rant. We can all go back to chatting about fun stuff now. I'm done :)

message 360: by [deleted user] (new)

It was required reading at my middle school.

message 367: by Mae (new)

Mae | 1 comments I was introduced to harry Potter at age 4 while living in England. Since then i have grown atatched to the books and movies. I have grown up loving Harry Potter and have read the books three times each, and the seventh and first, 4 times a piece. I was convinced that there will never be a book in which i will grow attatched to the characters like harry Potter, until i was introduced to The Hunger Games. I wish Suzanne Collins had written more than three books, because i finished all three of them in exactly a week. The book had two boys who were both in love with the main female protagonist. Though this may sound like twilight, it is not. In addition to both Peeta and Gale being in Love with Katniss, There is the hunger games, ( 24 teens thrown into one outdoor arena to fight to death) to Occupy Katniss's mind, yet, though Peeta is bordering life and death, in the deadly arena, with only katniss by his side, he only thinks of getting Katniss out alive. The book incorporates action and romance to create an amazing master piece. Harry Potter contains less romance, though towards the end of the series, There is some. Harry potter shows that the power of love is greater than all other forms of wizardry. *spoiler* love is the thing that kept harry alive until he left the dursleys. His mother's love shield protected him from ever being hurt. The book to me at a younger age was just harry trying to kill the enemy in a magical land of happiness, but as i grew older i became more aware of Rowling's messages. Both books are great, and i wouldn't be able to choose between the two, because both have changed my views on life significantly.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 627 comments How come people think I'm not calm when I use caps? I could never pick one. I would be betraying my love for the other series.

message 378: by Georgina (new)

Georgina (qwrtyp) I'm actually really ashamed and disappointed that there's even a page for this. As much as I love the Hunger Games, there is absolutely NO competition what so ever with Harry Potter. The ONLY series in the WHOLE WORlD that comes anywhere NEAR to Harry Potter is Lord Of The Rings. And that's still a fair way off. Hunger Games is good, but in a completely different class to Harry Potter.

message 379: by [deleted user] (new)

They're different CATEGORIES, people. This is like comparing War of the Worlds to Paradise Lost. Or something.

message 380: by [deleted user] (new)

No, more like comparing War of the Worlds to...uh...some fantasy book...like...um...well, you get it.

message 381: by 114alliexd (new)

114alliexd | 3 comments This is really difficult but I honestly think The Hunger Games was a better series because I felt like I was in the book and personally knew the characters. I felt every emotion during the books and was just drawn into it. The Harry Potter series is absolutely amazing but I didn't have the same connection with the characters like I did with the Hunger Games.

message 382: by Georgina (new)

Georgina (qwrtyp) I didn't really have connections with anyone in Hunger Games. they all died in the end (well except Peeta and Katniss) and I kinda feel that she didn't put that much effort into actually developing the characters and making them seem like actual people. Because I don't know about you, but in Australia people don't really relate that well to people that go into an arena and willingly kill other people. Yeah, I know a lot of them didn't want to be there, like Rue, but she died pretty early on and after the first one the main focus was on Katniss and I did NOT find her the most relatable and likable character....I feel that JK developed characters, even smaller characters like Katie, Lavender, far out, even Pius Thicknese! better than in the Huner Games. I think that Harry Potter was better in all areas. It wins hands down. Oh and guess what! It didn't have one of the main villains die because they CHOKED ON THEIR BLOOD FROM COUGHING/LAUGHING TOO HARD. WTF?!?!

message 383: by Peeta (new)

Peeta hunger games is the best!!!

message 384: by Heather (new)

Heather Tucker | 3 comments I have read all the harry potter books and I completly fell in love with all the characters and I think they are written very well. I just finished the first book of hunger games and loved it. Problem is since harry potter has so many more books she has more time to develop the characters. For the amount of books the hunger games has I think that the development is right on the money. I cant wait to finish the series and give a complete opinion. Happy reading everyone.

message 385: by Jewel (new)

Jewel | 1 comments I've read all the novels to both series, and I find that the books are a bit hard to compare since the characters and story lines are completely diverse. Harry Potter has had it's run in the minds of people and in the theaters. Now the Hunger Games are about to get their chance! I can't be sure, but for now I'm going for the Hunger Games. Just by a few millimeters. Lets just get happy for the movie that's going to debut on March 23rd!

message 386: by Ruthie (new)

Ruthie | 31 comments Hunger games is AWESOME, yes it may be a bit violent at times but I think the same thing is with Harry Potter!
And I HATE witchcraft, so the HG is a better Read!

message 387: by Carly (new)

Carly Fries Harry Potter. No contest.

I have been in love with the Harry Potter books for over 10 years and just became obssessed with the Hunger Games last year. Ironically, I'm not the biggest fan of Harry OR Katniss, but both stories are so unique and have great characters that you want to root for. But ultimately, Harry Potter will always be, to me, the best piece of fiction I have ever read. I can say this, however: Whenever I read books that I love, they never even begin to compare to HP. The Hunger Games is the only book that had ever had me question the validity of Harry Potter as my favourite series of all time. Still, HP wins.

message 388: by silver (new)

silver wombat | 7 comments after reading the hunger games this is hard.. it is still gotta be harry Potter -they're too hard to compare!!

message 389: by Horcruxiatus (new)

Horcruxiatus (ATeam) | 22 comments Definitely Harry Potter, it has much more deceptions and twists, and since the series is longer, you have more time for the characters to grow on you. So you definitely fear a time when one of those characters is put into a dangerous situation.

Hunger Games has a good plot, but seeing as Katniss is described as such an emotionless person, you kind of aren't able to let someone grow on you. Because Katniss either sees them as an enemy or potential enemy, excluding Prim, her Mum, Madge, Cinna, Haymitch, Effie, Octavius, Flavius, Vienna, (I think thats the Prep Teams names), etc.

MOCKING JAY SPOILER
(view spoiler)

message 390: by Shreya (new)

Shreya C. (darthallow) Harry Potter.
Here's why: Harry Potter is a wizard who goes to a magic school and has to defeat an evil spirit and is an orphan. Hunger Games is really cool, that's why I'm in this group. But, I think that in general people prefer fantasies over harsh dystopias. I mean, the Hunger Games is pretty action-packed and depressing and full of war. Sometimes, we just wanna turn to a tale of an epic adventure in London, not how lousy America has become.

message 391: by Shreya (new)

Shreya C. (darthallow) lol same here. except rowling was the one who put an edge on the wizard world, and that will always be respected by fanfic readers.

message 392: by Sg (new)

Sg Bigger | 3 comments this is a hard decision! i think i will have to go with HP. but only by the tiniest margin.

message 393: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (tiffanyyy_wang) | 132 comments Ya I'm just a HP person, maybe because I read it first, or just because every book in HP was great, whereas, I believe each book in The Hunger Games got slowly worse...

Agreed, the books did slowly deteriorate.

ANN ♥ (bookwormette09) | 15 comments I've grown up with the Harry Potter books and movies, but i like the Hunger Games series as well. Both story lines are fantastic in their own way, But im gonna have to go with Harry Potter. But Hunger Games is definately my second most favourite series

message 396: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (tiffanyyy_wang) | 132 comments I definitely agree with you on that, and yeah, I did grow up with Harry Potter, so maybe that's why I've read it so many times!

message 397: by Alane Elevado (last edited Feb 05, 2012 08:04AM) (new)

Alane Elevado | 1 comments I think that both the Harry Potter Series and The Hunger Games Trilogy are great in their own ways but I grew up with Harry Potter and much of my love for books and reading is because of Harry Potter so Harry Potter it is! However, The Hunger Games was a real treat and I have to say that the trilogy comes second best. ;)

message 398: by Candycloud (new)

Candycloud | 2 comments Harry Potter. I think it has everything and I'm sure it will end up as a modern classic. I must admit, THG was really good though.

message 399: by Alex (new)

Alex | 13 comments Well, that's tough. I like the Hunger Games A LOT more than I like Harry Potter, but Harry Potter just seems sophisticated and fantasy like. But then there's The Hunger Games, this year's favourite trilogy which teaches you about survival and family. So, which is it? I'm going to say Harry Potter because it has been around for many years and it's magical and we learn about friendship. Even though I prefer the Hunger Games, I think Harry Potter wins.

message 400: by Tihitina (new)

Tihitina (tihitinareads) | 8 comments No matter how good the Hunger Games is, I still prefer Harry Potter. I mean The Hunger Games is really awesome and stuff but nothing I have ever read can beat Harry Potter so I am staying loyal. Harry Potter is 99.99% better than the Hunger Games!
