message 254: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess Kind of unfair; since this is a Hunger Games themed group.
However, Harry Potter destroys the Hunger Games on pretty much every level. The writing is better, the themes and morals are better, the characters are a million times more developed, the world is much more thought out, and foreshadowing is better.
I know it may be unfair to compare to a 7 book series to a trilogy, but thats just the way it is. There were always meant to be sequels to HP, but Im not convinced Collins had a trilogy planned from the start, and that shows.
Both are really, really good-Harry Potter and Hunger Games are high on my list of favorites, but HP blows HG out of the water. Need I even begin on the deep morals of Harry Potter compared to Hunger Games?

Can I ask why people think the Hunger Games is better?

William Emery (almericus) | 4 comments This question is like asking whether people prefer food or water.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 627 comments thanks... Watch the movies?? You have to read the books (hp)..do you mean HG?

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 627 comments with what being the food?

I was wrong, I thought that, that we were talking about the movies.
It's really difficult!! =/
John Galt wrote: "This question is like asking whether people prefer food or water."
You're absolutely right

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 627 comments well they are both the same amount of quality to me!!! This IS a hard decision here! :)

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 627 comments like I both <3ed them so.....The HG has my favorite character (Peeta), HP has so many twists and turns and depth...

I've only read the first three of Harry Potters. So far it's just the same moral over and over. "The guilty one may not be whom yous suspect." And possibly a few others, like, "Do not fly a car," or "There is life outside of books," Which Hermione should learn eventually.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 627 comments hahah..sorry the There is life outside of books," Which Hermione should learn eventually was funny

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 627 comments the characters are a million times more developed

Chloe (Kindle3) | 2 comments I think Harry Potter was one of the most amazing series I've ever read, but I do think The Hunger Games was a very, very close comparison. Even though they are about very different topics, I very much enjoy the genre, the conflict, and characters of both series. When it comes down to it, I must say that I preferred The Harry Potter Series just a millimeter more.

message 268: by Esther (new)

Esther (ekduha) | 4 comments This is definitely hard for me as well. As I saw the first 2 movies before I gave in and read the books but the books were AWESOME as well! :-) I was just as obsessed with this series as with Hunger Games, Twilight, & Lady bug farm .... I can't choose right now!

message 269: by Ashlyn (new)

Ashlyn (ashie624) | 2 comments Wow this is a tough one, but I might have to say Harry Potter, because its the series that got me into reading and I grew up with it.

message 276: by Kayleigh (new)

Kayleigh (papercutprone) HUNGER GAMES FOR SURE! seriously, hunger games are the bomb! Much better than Harry Potter. Just because it didn't drag along like Harry Potter did into seven books doesn't mean it is any better or worse. Plus, I felt I could relate to the problems Katniss was going through and the struggles she had to make. She went through a lot.

Can I ask how Harry Potter can even be considered better than Hunger Games. And Harry Potter having "deep morals"? Which one is that? Not to have a flying car? Not to use magic outside of school? I tthing Hunger GAmes is better.

Natasha (ar y ffin) (Natasha_ar_y_ffin) For me, Harry Potter is better than the Hunger Games by a little bit.

message 282: by Margaret (new)

Margaret | 4 comments Harry Potter but that doesn't mean I don't love the Hunger Games :)

message 283: by [deleted user] (new)

Harry potter, its just as good but longer, so it's better

message 284: by Cristina (new)

Cristina | 4 comments Without a doubt Harry Potter is the better series. Everything just linked together perfectly, there really weren't any questions not answered. And mainly characterization. I LOVE when books have very deep and complex characters and unfortunately no matter how much I loved the Hnger Games it didn't have that. Most of its characters were flat and static not round and dynamic. The writing is also more detailed and descriptive in Harry Potter. But I'm not saying I didn't like the Hunger Games! They were very good but Harry Potter beats it by a long shot.

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 627 comments Oh..Well I loved the characters...(haha)..I thought they sorta came to life, and I grew close to them and they grew and changed..In the HUnger Games series

message 286: by Tjala (new)

Tjala | 11 comments i preffered the characters in the hunger games. there was so much more description, and in harry potter the heroes are to perfect.
in the hunger games they have flaws and the bad guys have good sides to them as well. they really came alive in my imagination and though so did the harry potter characters the hunger games made me cry more.
and you should always cry at a good book!!
i also thought the storyline was more realistic and likely to happen which helped and has just one me over to the side of the HUNGER GAMES!!!

message 287: by Breeze (new)

Breeze (hurricanebreeze) | 235 comments I could never get into Harry Potter... I don't know why. :P So I guess I really shouldn't be judging here! I don't really know... ;)

hows it more mature??

message 290: by Cristina (new)

Cristina | 4 comments I literally think the exact opposite of what Tjala said. In the hunger games the characters did not have a ton of description and in my mind were too perfect, especially Peeta. He literally did nothing wrong in teh first two books. and was so unrealistic in the way he had this obsession with protecting Katniss especially in the beginning where he barely knew her. the characters in Harry Potter definitely do have flaws and the bad characters do have good qualities. (SNAPPEE) and I cried wayuyyy more in Harry Potter. I seriously bawled my eyes out. I didn't cry once in Hunger Games I'm not sure why. I think it's because I felt more attached to the supporting characters than I ever did for Peeta or Katniss

message 291: by Kendra (new)

Kendra (madamejade) Why did George diiiiie!? Or was it Fred?

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 627 comments I felt really attached to Peeta..(haha)..Well Peeta didn't have flaws, that's why I like him so much!!I cried when Peeta was *hijacked*!! I really liked the Harry Potter books! But I grew even more attached to the characters in The Hunger Games...Maybe it was my age when I read Harry Potter.

You're saying that... um... something... something he did in the second or first books... um... I can't think of anything right now, but I'm sure he did something wrong!

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 627 comments Well..In my opinion, Peeta didn't do anything wrong in the 1st or 2nd book or even 3rd (it wasn't HIS fault)..I know this is a very biased opinion, because I side with Peeta for everything...

message 295: by Inel (new)

Inel (darkglowings) Hunger Games... duuh

Lea (Peeta's #1 Fangirl!) (3teofilea3) | 627 comments *Ella* wrote: "I agree, Peeta was a little too perfect. But I kind of like that about him. But Harry Potter still wins. It was Fred who died, by the way."

WHAT! PEETA is a bit perfect, but that's what I love about him..<3

message 297: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow, that's TOUGH.

Harry Potter - very classic, somewhat easy to relate to, believably aged and changing characters, MAGIC, truly evil antagonist

Hunger Games - action, choices, romance, sisterly love, weaponry, rebellion, TWO truly evil antagonists

The Hunger Games. Yes.
BUT I still love Harry Potter.

There's a life outside of books? Hermione never learned that, and neither will I. *stubborn face*
