Hey Ranata. I loved the series but I was disappointed with the ending. WTF happened to Cyrus? I hate that she just left that hanging. I also felt that there should have been more to Max and Bella's story. What about all those golem? Did they all die or are they just wandering around scaring the snot out of people?Does she have another book planned? I'd sure like to have some things wrapped up a little better. And Cyrus. I can't have my last image of Cyrus be the look of horror and grief that I can only imagine was written all over his face. I just want to hug him :(
I haven't finished it yet but I'm pass the part where Cyrus was back yet again. LOL. Now I'm worried about the ending and I'll be left like WTF? LOLCyrus needed to stay dead but whatever. He's like a cat but a vampire.
I just finished Night Shift and started Hunter's Prayer. These are the first two books in the Jill Kismet series by Lilith Saintcrow. More urban fantasy than paranormal romance, but I'm liking them. Good reading for the lead in to Halloween. Very demon-oriented.
LOL, book whore, Heather and Lori, can I join you? I am the same way...I posted what I am currently reading on the shelf but I would like to comment that my fave new author would have to be Nalini Singh (sp?). She really does great justice to the shifter world, in giving them a human side and also feeding thier animal side so fiercly and yet maintaining a balance so thier not complete monsters.
I may re-read The Rising and City of the Dead afterwards. A GR friend reminded me of the joy of Keene's novels and I sorta got a itch to scratch now, lol. I've been reading only PNR since I first found the genre about 2 years ago. Well, about 90% of what I read is PNR.

*giggles at Kenjii* yes, self-proclaimed and proud of it!Just finished Bloodfever last night. I liked it even more than Darkfever... and we almost had a sex scene! I'm hoping some of that sexual tension will culminate in Faefever, which I ordered from Overstock and should arrive soon. And of course I want the other plotlines to culminate too, not just the sex stuff.... ^_^
In the meantime I'm reading a classic Kathleen E. Woodiwiss historical romance that a friend loaned me: The Wolf and the Dove. (I know there'll be sex in there!)
Oh Heather of course, the plot yes...hehe. No seriously. I'd have to had good character developement, a believable story as far within the world of the characters and the building up of action, tension, passion all that should lead to something. You can't "dance" around the possibly and leave it at nothing. If there's to be no sex, then don't even hint at it for pete's sake. I can read a PNR w/o sex but don't tease me...=), Kenjii
PS I am reading Dark Thirst and I love how the author is delicously introducing the tension between the characters. She's not giving to much but the hint of it keeps me wanting to read the whole book in one night!
I just finished book 5 in the Southern Vampire series, Dead as a Doornail, last night and started the 6th book, Definitely Dead. There was no sex in book 5!!! There was a tease between Eric and Sookie but they got interrupted. Arg!!! I don't know how she can resist Eric. I'd be so all over that. There better be sex in this one. If she doesn't get hot and heavy with big, bald Quinn, who sounds divine, I'm going to be really mad!Heather - The Wolf and the Dove is a fabulous book and was one of the first romance novels I read as a teenager. I loved all of her books. My mom would read them and then pass them on to me. Nothing like a good "bodice ripper". Enjoy!
I just finished Storm Born by Richelle Mead. I was totally surprised by the ending... even more surprised when I couldn't figure out when the next in the series is coming out. I read it without knowing it was a series... OH...how I wish they'd let you know before you start.
The 4th book in the BDB series - Lover revealed.Also a short stories collection of paranormal romance called Night magic by various authors.
The Wolf and the Dove? Wow. That takes me back. Loved it when I read it, although if I'm remembering the story right, there are scenes in there that would make my feminist blood boil now.Reading Alexander's A Little Bit Wicked. It's a good bedtime read, smooth and with some sly humor, although not quite up to Loretta Chase's Your Scandalous Ways.
Although maybe I'm just distracted. I'm in deadline mode and can't concentrate beyond my own story.
Oh, Mandi, I just picked up Karen Moning's Fever books yesterday. I was a Wal-Green's looking for something else and swung passed the books. Saw one of the Fever books and just knew I had to pick it up.How are they?
Ranata - I just finished the first Sookie book and LOVED it. Can't wait to run to the store and pick up the next one. I think I'll do that during lunch today. ;-)
Shame on me... As a new member I did not go back and read through all the odler posts in this thread. With over 400, it's a bit overwhelming.Anywho, I'm wondering more about this Blood Ties that keeps coming up. What's it like? What's it about? Isn't there a show (is sounds familiar)?

The Blood Ties books by Jennifer Armintrout are really great. The TV show however, is not based on this series but rather the "Vicki Nelson" novels by Tanya Huff. I've never seen the show but I think it's been canceled.Their are 4 books in the Blood Ties series. They revolve around an intern, Carrie, who gets accidentally turned by a vampire in the morgue of the hospital where she works. The four books are about Carrie and her introduction into the world of vamps, wares & witches.
I loved this series and read all 4 books in about 2 weeks. There aren't anymore books planed which is a bummer because I would have liked at least one more book to wrap up a few lose ends.
Carrie's a doctor, Lori. And Lori's right. There was a show based on Tanya Huff's books but Blood Ties is a compltely different series that deals with vampire ties to their makers) or sires. Carrie is the main storyteller but that changes in book 2.
I'm almost done with Book 4 and I probably would have been done had I not gotten sick and been sleeping for 2 days. I should be done by Saturday.
I'd recommend it!

Yeah, Carrie was a bonafide doctor but she just caught sight of Cyrus and lost it. LOL

Just started Dark Curse by Christine Feehan. It's cool already because she's bringing the Dragonseeker heritage to the main part of this saga.
Yesterday I finished the last Southern Vampire Book. I miss Sookie and Eric already :( Can't wait for the next book.Now I'm reading the first book in Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series, Fantasy Lover. I'm really enjoying the book. I'm not sure how it fits in with the Dark Hunter thing but I'm sure all will be revealed in time. There are over 20 books in this series so if I can find them all, I'll have plenty to read for the next few weeks. I hate it when I can't go from one book to the next so I've got to find a way to locate all of these books.
Lori: I think you'll enjoy the DH series. I didn't care for vampires much but I did like the way Sherrilyn Kenyon does them. I got all of my DH books from PBS that way I could either get more than 1 from the same member, or order them on the same day and they'd pretty much come back to back in the mail. What have you heard about the DH series? I am just about done with Island Heat and then I will start Any Given Doomsday and I am thinking of continuing The Awakening because I am finally in the mood for it again. I am not sure if Island Heat is part of a series or just, i'll have to check it out. I like Susan Kearney tho.

Hey Kenjii. I haven't really heard that much about them, I've just seen them recommended a lot. I've been spending some time on her website reading everything there. Last night I read the short story "The Beginning" which I guess kicks off the series. Now I just have to hunt down the books. They only had the newer ones at the used book store I went to yesterday. I'm going to order the first 2 or 3 from Borders and then keep hunting down the rest.I can't decide what I want to read next. I have a couple of stand alone books which I'll probably start. They aren't PNR though so I'm dragging my feet LOL.
I just finished Earthly Pleasures by Karen Neches (aka Karin Gillespie). It's more paranormal women's fiction with a romance, than Paranormal or urban fantasy but I LOVE her take on heaven and the writing is stellar!
Also reading Doomsday by Handeland. :)
Lori: Have you tried PBS or BM for the DH books? Amazon is another great source. B and N is my other "to buy" source b/c I am a memeber. Let me know how the book hunting goes for you. I have less than 30 pages to go on Island Heat. It is a good book but I have not been able to concentrate fully since I started reading it, or I'd jave been done by now. I can't wait to start Any Given Doomsday.

Currently reading: White Night by Jim Butcher 'The Dresden Files' series Book #9. I absolutely love this series!
Kenjii, it's good. I didn't even mean to start the book, but I was flipping pages and I never put it down. I'm like halfway through now, lol. It reads as fast-paced (maybe more so) as her other books.Btw, you may want to remove the second link to Doomsday because this thread shows up twice on the book's page, lol. I didn't even realize we could add to this group's currently-reading shelf. Very cool.
The Dark-Hunter books are excellent. I'd say they're my favorite paranormal romance series (as opposed to urban fantasy). Each book features a couple, as in all romance books, but the characters come back in future books. And there are plot arcs that are bigger than a single book. The recently released "Acheron" was the best in the series yet. Although, I would recommend that you read them in order. Here's the correct reading order.
The Dark-Hunters are vampire-like, but not exactly vampires. She also has Were-Hunters who are not exactly like lycanthropes, and Dream-Hunters who are like guardians of sleep. There is a lot of ancient mythology in the books. For instance, Artemis is the goddess who gives the Dark-Hunters their abilities.
Kenjii, I have not wanted to go the book swapping route because it seems like a lot of work. Packaging the books, taking them to the post office, etc...I found a bunch of books at the library yesterday. None of the Dark Hunter books that I need but I did find the Laurell K Hamilton books I needed to make a pretty good dent in that series. Now I just hope I like them. I'm reading The Laughing Corpse (2nd in the series)and so far it's okay.
I also got the 2nd book in the Rachel Morgan series and books 1 & 2 in the Women of the Underworld series.
I really, really want to read the Dark Hunters series though!!
Lori: There are sites you can print postage from home. You even get a scale. PBS lists most of the books by weight and tell you the postage price. I just want to get everyone on the bandwagon here =). Its a great service and it's so easy to do. Most books you can mail media rate and up to a pound is like $2.23. That's like 2-3 books. It's not a lot of work and it's worth the savings and you can find those hard to get books. According to my acct I've saved over $500.00 in used books. I don't go to the PO for any swapping I do it all from home. It's not too hard. I do amazon marketplace too. If you have any questions just ask me and I'll help you in anyway I can.AS for packing. It's real easy. You take the wrapper you print from the site and wrap the book. No buying envelopes and special extras like that. Only when you have more than 1 book to mail do you need a big manila envie or box. I recycle most all my envie's and box tho.
I have the 2nd to last DH book, lol. I'd be willing to give it to you once I've finished. Well it's 3rd to last if you count the one coming out in Nov.
I've heard a lot of people talk about LKH and I read a short story by her but I haven't read any novels yet. There are alot of other authors that are exciting me right tnow. I have her listed on my WL somehwere I think =). Keep me posted on yout DH book hunt =)

Thanks Kenjii! I'm using the interlibrary loan service to see if I can't get the books I need transfered to my branch. I may give the swap sites a try if I can't get them from the library.

Christie: I looked up your website. I liked your book about Alex and Fiona. I've added to my TBR pile. I don't know if I would have ever stumbled upon your site in some other way. Glad I did, your book sounds good. I finally finished The Awakening by L A Banks after putting it on hold for several months. I'll do that if I get a book in that I've been waiting for. I really got into it once I started reading it. After that I started, right away, on The Hunted book 3 in the series. If you are not familiar with the series it involves a vampire huntress on one side and her soul mate that has been turned into a vampire on the other. It is an interesting story.

Just started Dark Possession by Christine Feehan. Loving it so far, I'm happy to be back in that world.
I'm reading Eye of Heaven by Marjorie M. Liu - the 5th book in the Dirke & Steele series. Great books - easy to read, engaging characters, just enough sexy scenes, and I like how each book centers around one of the characters that was only a "supporting" character in the previous books. Everyone gets their turn ^_^

I'm not reading anything fun right now. I'm trying to catch up on my film theory reading (which is generally ANYTHING but fun), but I do have Patricia Briggs's new book next on my TBR stack, and Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione after that. I'll eventually get time to read for pleasure... some day...
I'm starting book 6 in the Anita Blake series. She finally has sex Yea!!! Of course from what I've heard I have to wait until almost the end of the book before it happens but at least I have something to look forward too! LOL.I read 25 books last month! My son thinks there is something seriously wrong with me :)
I'm still reading the Anita series because she finally has sex with someone I've been waiting for her to sex! I can't wait to find out what made her finally give in. I'd have been dropped my drawals for who she gives it up to. He's the bomb!I wish I could read that many. I think I only did 4. LOL

Finished Eye of Heaven and now reading Dark Dreamers which is a combo book: first story is Christine Feehan's Dark Dream and the second is Marjorie M. Liu's A Dream of Stone and Shadow. I read Liu's first since I was on a Dirke & Steele kick, now I'm reading Feehan's... I've read a few Carpathian novels before, but they don't really impress me too much.
