What are you reading right now?
Just finished Dark Dreams of the T'en trilogy by Cory Daniells. By the way, Melissa, if you liked Lord of the Fading Lands, I think you'll like that series too. The second book drags a bit, but the main characters in the trilogy are great because they're flawed and very human (not literally, lol). I love how she takes the time to write them getting to know each other. I started on Kiss of Fire, but I'm really finding the writing uninspiring so far, which is really disappointing (I love dragon shifters). It's basically an Instant Soulmate story written as a typical romance, too fluffy for me. *sigh* Ah, well. I think instead I'll move onto the last T'en book. :D
Oh! Btw, Jael, I just got my books from BF, more than a week later. :/ I don't know if I'll stay with them, they're definitely not Netflix, that's for sure, lol. On the bright side, the "keep" option is decent. I kept one of the books, got a dollar discount, not too shabby since it's a relatively new release.
New_User Yeah that's been most customers complaints. They're trying to get BF to add an option for memebers who want to pay more for faster shipping ,but BF keep stating that if you upgrade your plan it'll be cheaper than paying additonal money for post. IDK who'll win that arguement but I recieve my books within three days from the shipping date Yeah I bought Stray by Rachel Vincent. BF is a goodservice I like it but if you have to wait forever for your books to arrive what's the point right?
I'm currently bouncing between two serials. I am currently reading "Curse the Dark" by Laura Anne Gilman and I just finished the second book in the Elantra series by Michelle Sagara called "Cast in Courtlight".
Well, I gave up on The Historian which isn't PNR anyway but I thought it looked interesting. I have nothing to read until my order from Amazon gets here so I pick up The Secret Life of Bees again. I should have it finished in a day or two. It's okay but I really want to get back to PNR!!!
I am almost done with Moon Calls (briggs) - its good, but theres no romance to it at all. I have a few chapters left, and tonight I should finish it.My next read is Night Pleasures (my first Kenyon)-I have not been able to find Fantasy Lover anywhere..but the whole mythology backstory doesnt really appeal to me.
Jennifer - I read Fantasy Lover and then Night Pleasures and they were two totally different books to me. I don't think it is necessary at all to read Fantasy Lover. The author gives you plenty of background in Night Pleasures. I liked them both a lot. I didn't really feel like they were book 1 and then book 2.As far as the Briggs series, the romance builds up over the series so if you liked the characters, read the other books because it does get to the romance eventually.
I started C.L. Wilson's Lady of Light and Shadows right after finishing Lord of the Fading Lands. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen. This second book starts at the exact point that the first one ended. I'm loving these books!
Hm, now I'm wondering if the delay from BF is distance or just my plan. I might have switch. It is definitely cheaper than buying all the books I read, lol. Hmmm...Took a break from reading the T'en books to check out Magic Bites. I planned to just take a look at the first chapter or so and make sure I could participate in next month's group read, but I ended up not stopping, lol. I usually don't like the whole magic/sorcery theme, but good writing is good writing. The clever commentary and fast pace is perfect for me.
Well, at first I was reading Moon Called by P. Briggs but I left my book at work and I went to exchange Jeanne C. Stein's Anna Strong Chronicles (I read the first one and it was so boring to me, I couldn't read the other 2) and picked up Blood Ties 2: Possession by Jennifer Armnitrout and Magic Bites by Ilona Lewis. Blood Ties is moving quicker but then again, I'm more a vampire reader than a werewolve. I need more vamps around than weres but Mercy's not bad at all.
I ended up putting Acheron aside for the moment. I want to wait until the weekend, so I can dedicated a lot of reading time to it. In the meantime, I've been reading Mine to Possess by Nalini Singh ((the 4th book in the Psy-Changeling series). It's pretty good so far.
Jennifer: keep reading the Mercy Thompson books (Moon Calls):) It gets pretty awesome. It's not in your face romance but it's still really good.
Hi, hope it's okay to just jump in. I agree with Kim 100% on the Anita Blake books. I got to Micah and thought, okay, 1/2 this book was about how big he is and how tight a fit--come on, after all the wild rompin' she's done.... I haven't read any more since that one and I was an avid fan--but I'm hoping LKH was just off her game with that one and the next will be just as good once I come back to it. She's been an incredible story-teller up to this point so she deserves another change :-)I like the Merry Gentry books as well--she's more up front about everything.
I read a new book recently that I picked up an advanced reading of at a conferece: EVE OF DARKNESS by SJ Day. Loved it. It's not out until May but then it will be followed by the next two right after. Highly recommend it.
I just got done reading Snuff by Chuck Palahniuk. It was definitely not paranormal of romance but overall I thought it was... shocking. I'm trying to find books outside of the paranormal world but I can't seem to get away. I'm anxiously waiting on Kenyon's new book and I'm really wanting another really goos paranormal romance series. Any ideas?
Well, I just finished Magic Bites. Liked it a lot! Once we start discussing it, I'll post the details, lol. Now I think I'll start on Lure of the Wolf by Jennifer St. Giles (I can't find the first Shadowmen). Either that or Krinard, I've been meaning to read her.
Just finished Feehan's Dark Curse, jumping into The Wild Road by Marjorie Liu next...
I'm just about to begin "Walk on the Wild Side" by Christine Warren. It's the 5th in her The Others series.
Dropped Lure of the Wolf immediately. Ugh. Krinard on the other hand is proving quite good. I can see why she has so many fans. :D
Hey Chassidy, in case you want to read more by that author, I recommend Invisible Monsters and Choke. They are my favorites by Chuck P. :p I am not reading anything at the moment, since we had internet issues and finally had it turned back on (that means the internet has my soul at the moment). But come Monday, I am going book shopping. It's going to be so lovely. XD

I'm reading A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole. Whew...all I can say is Hot Hot Hot!! I think I actually blushed when my son and his friend came home and I was reading in the living room. Wow, is it a good story though. I had to make myself stop reading about 2:00 this morning. I think I'll have this entire series read in about a week. It's so yummy.
I just finished reading Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon and I loved it. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series.
I just finished "The Ruins", which was okay. I want to start on "Ghost Walk" by Heather Graham, but I haven't bought it yet. I've read her books before and I like them very much.
So I said that my next book was Night Pleasures (kenyon) and honestly, I just couldnt take it. The Romance end of it was just silly to me. I have never laughed so hard.
I think it was this line that did me in: "he ravaged her mouth like a marauder."
I died laughing. Tears. my boyfriend wanted to know what was so funny, so I read it to him.

LOL are there other "romance" paranormals that are not so cheesy?!?

LOL@ Jennifer- I never read Kenyon but yeah some PNR can be a little cheesy when describing the intimacy of the characters.
Lol, Jennifer. I can sympathize. I never really got into Kenyon and Feehan. You may want to try Viehl or Ward. Viehl, in particular, doesn't bother to sugar coat, lol.

Just finished Kitty takes a Holiday. Was very disappointed . Taking a two book break from all things paranormal to catch up on my bookclub reading.
lmao, Jennifer. There are LOTS of romance paranormals not that cheesy.Try The Night Huntress by Jeaniene Frost. The romance is STUPID HOT!
I'm reading Blood Ties Book 3: Ashes to Ashes by Jennifer Armintrout and it's not cheesy. If it has some guy on the cover half naked and looking all rugged, I won't even pick it up. I stay away from Kenyon, Keri Arthur and a couple of others just because of that. LOL.
It's just so hilarious and reminds me of my sister's romance novels from Harlequin but with supernatural creatures.
I do wish I could stand to read them cuz I hear some of them aren't that cheesy and actually have a great story.
LoriI think Kresley Cole -was among the 1st to intro me to paranormal-from there-I WAS HOOKED. You should try Lora leigh's Breed series(major blush)- and Christine Warren's the other series--The wolf at the door.all really good reads.

I'm reading "Knight's Fork" By Rowena Cherry, so far it's good.
Jael...I was a little disappointed in that one too (it didn't SUCK but something about it just didn't quite work for me) but I think she totally redeemed herself with Kitty and the Silver Bullet!
Jennifer i have to second the vote for Viehl. She's UBER talented and I love that series!
I'll add to the recommendations for Lynn Viehl and Kresley Cole. I couldn't get into Kenyon either, so don't feel bad. Some things that people suggest will be right up your alley, and others won't.
I am currently reading Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series. She does a great job with building the sexual tension between the leads. Quite enjoyable.
I just finished Hotter after Midnight by Cynthia Eden, and it was actually surprisingly good. I didn't expect much, but after a little bit of an uncertain start, I really liked it, especially the interactions between Colin (definitely Colin) and Emily. Gotta love those shifters. :D
Amie- I agree Kitty Takes a Holiday didn't suck I was just disappointed with the Cormac/ ben situation.
Ranata, I understand what you're saying about staying away from cheesy covers, and usually I agree... but Keri Arthur's books are fantastic; I highly recommend them (if you can ignore the cover art *wink*) :-D
I can get around the cheesy covers with a book cover. LOL. I'm game to see if I'll like them as much as everyone else seems to.
OH, I have to recommend Jocelynn Drake's Nightwalker. EXCELLENT!
Ranata- I used to do the same thing if they looked to cheesy I'd shy away but when I picked up the Lords books by Showalter. I was very impressed. The only time I was right on about the cover was when I read Wolf Tales. That book was too much for me,So I understand what you are saying.
I finally read Twilight and I'm glad I waited this long. I loved it and I can't wait to read the rest and since the series is over, I don't have to wait.
Mita, enjoy the series. I recently read them too and it's so nice to be able to read one after the other. I'm reading Kresley Cole's series Immortals After Dak and am flying through them. Since the characters get carried forward to each book, it's great that I've just read them and remember them.Edward is dreamy isn't he?
Edward is the best part of the series. It's amazing how many women are swooning over this make believe guy! LOL. Real men, take notes!

I just finished the last book in the Imortals After Dark series and I'm already suffering horrible withdrawl. Now I'm going to read the 2nd book in the Southern Vampire series. Sookie is sure to cheer me up.
I've read a couple of Feehan's leopards and really enjoyed them. Can't tell you titles, unfortunately, as they were borrowed and have gone back to the owner. (I'm lucky I remember my own titles, much less someone else's!)

I'll check it out, Lisa. Like I said, I could always hide the covers with a book cover. I'm just not that into in your face romance in books but that is something that will definitely turn me away. Reminds me too much of Harlequin and I used to make fun of my sister for reading those! LOL

i started 'marked' last night after a strong recommendation from a book-trading-buddy, and at about 60p in, i have to say i'm not impressed. since it's written in 1st person from the point of view of a high schooler, there's a lot of "teen dialogue" going on, and it feels really caricatured. it's as if the book was being written in the modern equivalent of valley girl speak from the 80s. hopefully, it'll hit its stride and suck me in soon, since my buddy gave me the 1st 3 all at once and i'm SO in the mood for fun vampire stuff just now.
