Avery grinned and nodded. "We could always just ditch." He continued quietly, "It's not like they'll kill us for missing one class. The professor isn't even here yet. And we could be doing something more productive elsewhere."

Caleb was slightly relieved when she didn't ask about the so-called "long story." He took several quiet breaths before saying anything else.

Medea tipped her head. "Well..." She didn't like the idea of breaking the rules - but what would Avery think if he went and she didn't? Besides, he was right. They could be doing something better, like homework, she reasoned. "It's an idea. Maybe we should get a few others, so it's not just us," she suggested.

Avery nodded. "You don't have to if you don't want," he assured her. "But I really think this is a waste of time."

Avery bit the inside of his cheek as he looked at Caleb and Lyra. You have to start somewhere, he told himself. She wouldn't want you to hate them. He let out a breath. "We're going to ditch potions," Avery whispered. "Nothing is happening, and we could be doing something more useful. Do you two want to come?"

Caleb thought for a moment before answering, analyzing both sides. "Well," he said. "I don't want to miss Potions. It's an interesting class. But," he shrugged. "I don't particularly like just sitting here, either."

Caleb tilted his head to one side questioningly. "I don't know," he said in a quieter voice. "There are pros and cons to each choice. Are you?"

"Great!" Medea said enthusiastically. She craned her neck to look around him. "But... not Lyra. Oh, well, I understand," she said quickly. "That's alright, us three will still have fun."

Caleb nodded. "We will." He picked up his books and stood.

Avery didn't really know if he was thrilled that Caleb was coming. But Medea was happy, so that was a plus. He copied Caleb's movements. "Where will we go?"

Medea laughed. "Who cares? Away from here, at least." She suddenly realized that it might be...awkward to have both twins and just her go. But maybe it was a good thing those two were doing things together. She pushed the thought away. "Hey, maybe we could go to the Owlery!"

"Good plan," Avery said with a grin. He started toward the door. "It'll be one destination down."

Caleb hung back, feeling rather torn about skipping class. But at last he cast Lyra a final glance and followed.

Medea hurried to gather up her stuff. She caught up to Avery, but then stopped abruptly, waiting for Caleb. "Yep! And maybe, if we feel guilty, we can do some homework up there."

Caleb caught up to Medea, not wanting her to have to wait. "Good plan," he said, then winced mentally as he realized he'd repeated Avery's words.

Avery bit the inside of his cheek again as he walked next to them. Great, soon they'll be friends and I'll be out.
